Ji Hwa

Ji Hwa is the self-chosen identity of the Sword Spear Heavenly Lord, formerly Radiance Hall’s Fifth Seat, in A Regressor’s Tale of Cultivation. She begins as Seo Eun-hyun’s pursuer and tries to claim him as an Immortal Treasure, but reading his repeated lives leads her to cultivate paper flowers, reject names imposed by office and inheritance, and oppose Radiance fate. She later becomes the agentic Sword Extreme Imperial Sword and Sword Extreme Heavenly Venerable. She is distinct from Oh Hye-seo and Seo Hye; Hong Su-ryeong is only a temporary vessel she occupies, not another identity.

Biography

The Fifth Seat marks an Ender

The Sword Spear Heavenly Lord first descends directly during the conflict around Blood Yin. As the Fifth Seat of the Radiance Eight Immortals, she wields authority vastly beyond Seo’s current reach, wounds Blood Yin, and leaves a mark on Seo that makes him a future target. Her interest is both institutional and possessive: Radiance Hall opposes the Enders, while Sword Spear imagines refining Seo into an Immortal Treasure worthy of her sword path. (Chapters 471–472)

The mark turns later encounters into a pursuit across realms and cycles. Sword Spear projects blessings and incarnations, searches the Head Realm, commands steel and sword on a cosmic scale, and cuts Seo even when he attempts to hide behind new circumstances. He addresses her as Gyeong-i, appealing to warmth associated with an identity she insists is dead. Her violent rejection never fully suppresses the involuntary grief, jealousy, and curiosity that the name brings to the surface. (Chapters 480–481, 489, 544–555)

Her conflict with Glass Peacock exposes the pride beneath her office. Sword Spear unleashes Sword-Guided Star Rain across an enormous battlefield, treating Seo as a claim another Heavenly Lord has obstructed. Glass Peacock can alter the setting around the attacks, but repeated sword-guided blows still batter her defense. Seo survives and continues moving beyond Sword Spear’s expected fate, while the Heavenly Lord’s emotional investment becomes harder for Radiance discipline to explain as detached enforcement. Incense Burning through repeated lives

Unable to settle Seo through force alone, Sword Spear places a split soul in a treasure connected to him, captures his manifestations, and uses Celestial Lord Incense Burning to enter engraved story and wisdom. The art allows her to inspect memories and move within already-occurred history without freely replacing its events. She follows Seo’s Earth origin and repeated deaths because she wants to understand why this quarry keeps changing—and why the name Gyeong-i continues to awaken emotions her office rejects. (Chapters 584–591, 603–675)

Observation becomes cultivation. Sword Spear witnesses Seo’s choices, confronts the being acting within his history, and compares herself against Sword Spear selves from other cycles. Paper flowers accumulate from thought and heart as she reads, converting what began as interrogation into a path shaped by relationship. Seo remains someone she harms and hunts, but his persistence becomes a lesson that cannot be contained within Radiance Hall’s categories of useful treasure, dangerous Ender, or corrupted target. (Chapters 664–684)

The method also turns her inward. Yang Ji-hwang, Gyeong-i, the Fifth Seat, and prior-cycle Sword Spear minds offer different inherited answers to who she is. Rather than letting one earlier role erase the current person, she reaches a threshold capable of connecting those minds across spacetime and defeating the version that would keep her inside the old fate. Her possessive wish to watch Seo changes into a willingness to protect his continued story, even when that choice makes her a traitor to Radiance. (Chapters 675, 683–684)

Choosing the name Ji Hwa

At the True-Immortal-equivalent threshold of paper-flower cultivation, she removes the silver-white mask that embodies the Sword Spear office. She rejects Gyeong-i as a dead past, Yang Ji-hwang as inherited, and Sword Spear as fate-bestowed, then asks for a name that belongs to the self choosing in the present. Seo gives her Ji Hwa, and she accepts it while retaining awareness of the lives that made the choice possible rather than pretending they never occurred. (Chapter 684)

Ji Hwa returns to Mount Sumeru with power surpassing her former self and immediately changes sides. She warns Jeon Myeong-hoon about Heavenly Punishment, spreads the Sword Extreme Heart Method, and treats Seo’s friends as people to aid because they are connected to him. Radiance Hall regards the new cultivation and allegiance as corruption deserving execution or replacement, but Ji Hwa refuses an office that would require her to erase the heart through which she finally defined herself. (Chapters 684–695)

Her rebirth is therefore neither possession nor the replacement of Sword Spear by an unrelated person. The current Sword Spear Heavenly Lord becomes Ji Hwa through accumulated awareness and a chosen name. Hong Su-ryeong’s body serves briefly as a constrained vessel during the conflict inside Seo’s history, but it does not become part of Ji Hwa’s canonical identity. Likewise, people caught in related Radiance and Future King arrangements remain separate persons rather than aliases absorbed by her transformation. (Chapters 683–695)

Sword Extreme and a life on two worlds

During the final coalition conflicts, Kim Yeon refines Ji Hwa into a sentient sword-state at great physical cost. Ji Hwa’s consciousness survives the transformation: the Sword Extreme Heavenly Sword later becomes the Sword Extreme Imperial Sword and divine-descends the Sword Extreme Heavenly Venerable. Becoming Seo’s Immortal Treasure reverses her original attempt to make him one, but the relationship is chosen and reciprocal. She remains a speaking, deciding combatant rather than inert property in another person’s hand. (Chapters 731–782, 803–814)

The new state lets Ji Hwa participate in the coalition at Governing rank while keeping her competitive personality intact. She lends authority through the Lord–Treasure bond, manifests split bodies, and carries Sword Extreme martial realization into battles whose scale exceeds her former Fifth Seat. Chapter 814 confirms that she has reached the Heavenly Venerable position, completing an advance founded not on returning to Radiance purity but on integrating connection, sword, and self-authored identity. On Earth, Ji Hwa creates silver-haired split bodies to staff Silver Sword Kindergarten and share responsibility for Seo’s childlike split body with Kang Min-hee. She later investigates Ghost Island, traces the history of an otherworldly creature, and draws only enough main-body rank to resolve the immediate threat without recklessly pursuing the distant divinity behind it. In Chapter 861 her main body returns to Mount Sumeru in Seo’s embrace, while one split remains on Earth, leaving both her partnership and independent activity intact. (Chapters 848–851, 861)

Appearance and personality

As Sword Spear, Ji Hwa appears in ancient immortal robes with a mianguan or silver-white mask. Bandages cover a body capable of expanding across multiple Middle-Realm scales, while silver-white light and the image of a snake biting its tail accompany her authority. Her Earth split bodies have silver hair and silver eyes and can reproduce formal masks for their roles. The chosen removal of the Heavenly Lord mask in Chapter 684 makes appearance part of her rejection of imposed identity. (Chapters 471, 544–555, 569–570, 684, 848–851)

She is proud, blunt, possessive, martial, tactically sharp, and intensely competitive. Before becoming Ji Hwa, those traits make her dismiss mortal resistance and rage at emotions she cannot reconcile with Radiance. Afterward, she remains teasing and shamelessly affectionate rather than becoming mild or obedient. Her development gives that force a chosen direction: she can protect Seo without treating him as property, accept help without surrendering agency, and restrain curiosity when exposing lesser beings to Heavenly Venerable wisdom would cause madness or collateral harm. Abilities and cultivation

Ji Hwa’s power includes her original Radiance Heavenly Lord authority, immense Immortal Body, sword-rain arts, Celestial Lord Incense Burning, paper-flower cultivation, the Sword Extreme Heart Method, a sentient Immortal-Treasure body, and Heavenly Venerable rank. These layers develop in sequence without erasing one another. The Fifth Seat’s arts remain accessible after her redefinition, but they are now governed by Ji Hwa’s chosen allegiance and integrated through the Sword Extreme Imperial Sword. Sword Spear authority and sword-rain arts

The Fifth Seat’s authority is tied to war, steel, the Gyeong symbol, and Radiance light. Ji Hwa can command metal into swords, enlarge her Immortal Body across cosmic distances, and project sword force through incarnations, vessels, and spacetime. Sword-Guided Star Rain launches strikes that inherit and alter a story-like combat setting, while Filling the Heavens Sword Rain destroys bodies and can continue pursuit across regressions. The arsenal supports execution, suppression, territorial control, and battles with other Heavenly Lords. (Chapters 471–472, 480–481, 544–572)

Scale does not remove conditions. Radiance obligations can restrict when her full projection leaves its post; alternative titles and concealment can obstruct her gaze; vessels or divided souls limit available authority; and Glass Peacock can rewrite the setting around her sword-guided attacks even while suffering their force. Seo’s resonant swordsmanship also draws out emotions embedded in her swordplay, compromising the detached judgment Radiance demands. As Ji Hwa, she retains these arts through her Heavenly Venerable main body rather than remaining bound to the Fifth Seat’s purpose. (Chapters 544–572, 591, 683–684, 814, 861)

Celestial Lord Incense Burning

Celestial Lord Incense Burning engraves and burns story or wisdom, letting Ji Hwa follow accessible memories, examine past lives, and act briefly inside recorded history. It depends on a usable connection such as a split soul, treasure, vessel, or exposed story. The method gives her access to Seo’s origin and regressions, permits comparison with previous Sword Spear selves, and turns the object of an interrogation into an extended cultivation environment. It does not grant unrestricted revision of events that already occurred. (Chapters 664–684)

Its chief risk is reciprocal exposure. Ji Hwa enters the art to understand and control Seo, but his memories, repeated choices, and paper flowers transform her own heart. Beings within the recorded history can resist, and the borrowed body of Hong Su-ryeong constrains how much authority she manifests during one confrontation. By her latest state, historical tracing remains demonstrated, but Incense Burning is no longer her defining method; the paper-flower and Sword Extreme systems have absorbed the self-knowledge it forced her to gain. Paper flowers and the Sword Extreme Heart Method

Paper-flower cultivation turns accumulated thought and heart into visible flowers from which strength grows. When Ji Hwa crosses its explicit True-Immortal-equivalent threshold, she can redefine herself, transcend spacetime, and connect with Sword Spear minds from other cycles. The breakthrough lets her defeat her past self and return under a new name. She then spreads the Sword Extreme Heart Method so awakened thoughts in Enders and other practitioners can contribute to calling Seo back and preserving connection across broken histories. (Chapters 684–687, 803–814)

The system depends on accumulated thought and relationship rather than an automatically complete ladder. Its early substages are not individually named, and connecting with counterpart minds does not eliminate the need to choose which identity acts in the present. Radiance Hall treats the method as a capital violation because it lets hearts define a person outside assigned fate. In Ji Hwa’s mature form, it is fully integrated with her Heavenly Venerable sword authority rather than operating as a separate temporary blessing. (Chapters 684–695, 803–814)

Sentient sword-state and split bodies

As the Sword Extreme Imperial Sword, Ji Hwa is Seo’s sentient Immortal Treasure without losing consciousness or agency. She can draw authority through their Lord–Treasure relationship, divine-descend Heavenly Venerable power, and divide consciousness among autonomous silver-haired bodies. Split bodies can be retrieved into the main body, carry specialized roles, teach, investigate, disguise themselves, and accelerate time on a limited scale. Even a small split can retain refined technique and borrow a minute portion of main-body rank when necessary. (Chapters 782, 803–814, 848–851, 861)

Division creates real limits. Earth bodies may voluntarily restrict themselves to mortal strength and possess only fractions of Ji Hwa’s complete authority. Drawing too much Heavenly Venerable wisdom near lesser beings risks mental collapse and environmental damage, while power borrowed through Seo depends on their continuing Lord–Treasure bond. Otherworldly gray energy can suppress unguided internal energy until she studies and refines it. Her latest arrangement keeps the main body in Mount Sumeru and a split on Earth, showing simultaneous continuity rather than independent duplicate identities. (Chapters 848–851, 861)

Relationships

• Seo Eun-hyun: Claimed treasure, quarry, martial mirror, naming partner, Lord, and intimate companion. Ji Hwa’s attempt to possess him becomes a relationship in which his stories reshape her and her chosen sword-state supports him without erasing either person.
• Radiance Eight Immortals: Former peers and eventual enemies. They depend on Sword Spear as a vanguard while monitoring emotional corruption, then judge her new Heart method and aid to the Enders as grounds for execution or replacement.
• Kim Yeon: Coalition ally and refiner. Kim Yeon shatters an arm during the refinement that preserves Ji Hwa as an agentic sword and enables the later Heavenly Venerable transformation.
• Jeon Myeong-hoon: Strategic ally connected through Seo. Ji Hwa warns him about Heavenly Punishment, shares the Heart method, and recruits his Ender thought to help call Seo back.
• Hong Su-ryeong: Temporary occupied vessel. Her body constrains Sword Spear’s manifestation during a battle inside Seo’s history, but she does not become an alias or prior incarnation of Ji Hwa.
• Kang Min-hee: Earth-side collaborator and counterweight. They share responsibility for Seo’s childlike split body, while Kang Min-hee checks Ji Hwa’s more excessive decisions.
