Ourin
Biography
Extortion and defeat
Before the journey begins, Ourin attacks the original inhabitant of Leylin Farlier's body over Bessita and leaves him fatally injured. He later confronts the changed Leylin, demands an oath of separation from Bessita, and expands the demand to all of Leylin's Magic Crystals. Ourin trusts his size and the fact that the escorting Magi ignored the earlier beating (Chapters 5–7).
Leylin evades the heavier youth, strikes a vulnerable armpit, and breaks his arm after Ourin falls. He then reverses the extortion by taking crystals and valuables from the defeated group. Ourin's Dorlan family is too distant and politically hostile to Leylin's homeland to provide immediate protection, so he withdraws to recover and stops challenging him (Chapters 7–8).
Death in the Direwolf attack
During the first Direwolf assault, Ourin's group loses members while George's prepared faction remains comparatively safe. In the later attack, a wolf knocks the cross blade from Ourin's hands and he runs toward Leylin for rescue. Leylin deliberately shoots another target. Ourin trips, and the pursuing Direwolf bites him to death; an escorting Magus later takes the remaining crystal pouch from his corpse (Chapters 10–12).
Appearance and personality
Ourin is a red-haired, heavily muscled youth with arms as thick as Leylin's thighs. He is possessive toward Bessita, greedy for magical wealth, and accustomed to intimidation. His confidence rests on physical advantage and family status rather than composure; once Leylin breaks his arm or a Direwolf closes in, aggression gives way to bargaining and panic.
Magic, bloodline, and abilities
Ourin's measured strength is about 1.7, close to that of two ordinary adults, and his heavy punch dents a small tree. His constitution lets him absorb a partial-strength kick and rise again. That power is poorly balanced by speed and technique: Leylin can talk while evading him, target an exposed joint, and defeat him despite similar raw statistics (Chapters 6–7).
He carries a cross blade and has the background of a noble youth selected for Magus training, but he is not identified as a Knight, Preparatory Knight, or active spellcaster. He never activates life force or a named sword technique. His assignment to Wetland Gardens is a prospective acolyte placement, not proof that he reaches the academy (Chapters 7, 12).
