Bessita

Biography

Early conflict with Leylin

Bessita is a princess travelling toward the Magus academies. The original Leylin's assault on her leads her admirers to beat him to death, creating the opening for Fang Ming's reincarnation as Leylin Farlier. She later gives the recovering Leylin medicine, but continues to isolate him socially until their paths separate (Chapters 1–16).

Wetland Gardens acolyte

Bessita advances to level 3 at Wetland Gardens Academy and reunites with Leylin while travelling on a defence mission to the Eternal River Plains secret plane. Still resentful, she encourages him to enter the dangerous plane and later puts her faith in Senior Jamu when bandits attack. Leylin defeats the official Magus behind the ambush, and Bessita subsequently discovers that he has become an official Magus himself. Afraid of retaliation, she seeks his forgiveness by offering herself to him. Leylin subjects her to a prolonged, violent punishment for her earlier role and then puts her out of his mind (Chapters 196–212).

Appearance and personality

Bessita has silver hair, ruby-red eyes, pale skin, and a voluptuous figure. She is socially perceptive and calculating, shifting toward those she believes offer safety or status. Her delight at Leylin's dangerous assignment and admiration for Jamu's temporary advantage show that she judges people by their apparent power, while her later attempt to placate Leylin shows how quickly that confidence becomes fear.

Magic, bloodline, and abilities

She possesses Magus aptitude and reaches level 3 acolyte. The corpus does not identify her elemental affinity, spell specialisation, or any spell she personally casts. Her assignment to defend the Eternal River Plains secret plane establishes that Wetland Gardens considered her combat-capable, but it does not support attributing the fort's spell formations or command authority to her.

Relationships

Items

  • Healing medicine: A bottle she gives Leylin after his injuries early in the journey. It is a restorative consumable, not a source of her power (Chapters 2–3).
