Bob
Bob is a physically imposing Black Serpent Grandmaster whose expedition into the Time-Stilled World ends in a deliberate sacrifice against Karl.
Biography
Grief transformed into a final choice
Bob built his assassin's life after the death of his beloved brother Kobe, a loss the forest weaponizes by showing him an illusion of the dead man. He nevertheless retains enough pragmatism to abandon Patricia when her forbidden fire makes her the wooden spiders' target. Once Karl reveals Transcendent power and the mission collapses, Bob refuses a helpless death: he uses Gravity Crumble to destroy the floating island beneath them, knowingly plunging into the abyss while dragging Karl down. The choice does not save him, but lets him die on his own terms and briefly removes the betrayer threatening Leo. (Chapters 280, 288, 311)
Appearance and personality
Bob has a barrel-like torso, tree-trunk arms, visible chest hair, and a storm-gray beard; a toothpick commonly sits between his teeth. His size supports a legendary, intimidating reputation, yet his behavior is observant and unsentimental rather than merely brutish. He recognizes when Patricia's panic endangers the group and meets his own death with grim agency. (Chapters 266, 288, 311)
Abilities and power progression
As a Grandmaster, Bob combines exceptional physical strength with thrown knives and close-range blows. Gravity Crumble is activated by charging two long knives with mana and driving them into the base of a structure; the resulting gravitational destruction collapses Karl's floating platform. Its demonstrated application is terrain denial and mutual destruction, not a precise single-target strike, and it gives Bob no protection from the same fall it creates. No later progression is possible after his death. (Chapters 266–277, 311)
Relationships
- Kobe: Bob's deceased brother is the grief-driven reason he became an assassin and the image used against him by the forest. (Chapter 280)
- Patricia: Bob initially fights beside Patricia but leaves when her fire draws a swarm that the group cannot safely resist. (Chapters 266–288)
- Karl: Bob destroys the platform under Karl and sacrifices himself in an attempt to drag the stronger traitor into the abyss. (Chapter 311)
- Leo Skyshard: Bob's final attack gives Leo an opening to survive Karl, although Leo later lacks complete information about Bob's death. (Chapters 311, 336)
Items
Bob carries two long knives used as the mana-charged anchors for Gravity Crumble. They fall with him and Karl; no later custody is established. (Chapter 311)
