Toolbo

Toolbo is Fabirang’s celebrated Platy inventor, whose improbable experiments with Doodooba rubber lead to the Helix Wing and whose unfinished ideas become the basis for generations of collaborative engineering.

Biography

The mad inventor who made ideas fly

Toolbo spends his life obsessed with Doodooba trees when their sap is used mainly for toys and roof repairs. Most people dismiss his many crude or useless inventions, but the Folded Wing Golden Bird elevates him to sainthood and forces Fabirang’s institutions to provide money and personnel. That support lets other technicians refine his technically imperfect concepts, culminating in rubber-powered machinery and the first Helix Wing. Toolbo’s reputation therefore rests less on flawless construction than on generating ideas other people can make practical. (Chapter 164)

After death, Toolbo becomes the Pantheon’s eighth apostle and a patron figure for inventors. When Simo’s prayer reaches RD, Toolbo enters the inventor’s dream, identifies flaws in a generator, and makes only the adjustments causality permits. In war he joins Obin and Aruna against an airship fleet; frightened by danger and physically small beside the machinery, he nevertheless tears into an enemy bridge and creates enough disruption for the team’s wider plan. (Chapters 219 and 227–233)

Appearance and personality

Toolbo is a short, plump Platy who wears full work clothes, a leather apron filled with tools, and signature goggles. Ordinary Pantheon furniture is so large that even with his arms raised he can barely reach above a table. He is excitable, anxious in combat, and capable of calling an impossible coincidence “scientifically” impossible, yet his curiosity repeatedly overcomes embarrassment and fear. (Chapters 219 and 227–233)

Powers and abilities

Toolbo’s principal ability is inventive ideation. His concepts inspire rubber engines and aircraft, while later technicians supply the precision and completion many prototypes lack. As an apostle he can answer an inventor’s prayer through a dream and physically adjust a design, but he states that causality sharply limits how much he may change. The corpus shows engineering, battlefield improvisation, and apostolic manifestation; it does not give him a named combat skill or the power to create perfected technology without materials and collaborators. (Chapters 164, 219, and 227–233)

Relationships

  • RD: RD recognizes Toolbo when Fabirang dismisses him, elevates him to sainthood, and later sends him to answer Simo’s prayer.
  • Simo: Toolbo’s bounded correction helps Simo turn an inefficient generator toward a working electrical system without taking the achievement from her.
  • Obin Mabru: Obin coordinates Toolbo’s inventive disruption during their airborne mission and compensates for his lack of conventional combat confidence.
  • Aruna: Toolbo admires Aruna and fights beside the Phoenix during the interception of the Union Kingdom fleet.

Items

  • Helix Wing: Toolbo originates the design of Fabirang’s rubber-powered aircraft; later craftspeople correct its flaws and turn it into a reproducible military technology.
