Aruna is a powerful Phoenix recruited by the Pantheon, valued for speed, aerial combat, and control over flame despite a stubborn resistance to being summoned.

Biography

The reluctant Phoenix becomes an apostle

Aruna enters the Pantheon restrained and loudly insists that no one, not even a god, can summon her against her will. Most players nevertheless want the Phoenix as an ally, and Sung-Woon accepts the collective decision. On the first major deployment, Aruna disappears for a reason the others cannot immediately see, then returns while tearing apart a Sky Eel. She joins Obin Mabru and Toolbo against an airship ambush, using speed and physical power to keep a superior aerial force occupied. (Chapters 228–233)

Aruna’s rivalry with Laitla demonstrates both strength and mortality. The Phoenix burns the Dragon and repeatedly disrupts its mission, but Laitla eventually tears off Aruna’s head and wings. Aruna later returns to service, carries Mazdari in renewed attacks, absorbs fire to open a march route through the Myriad Demons, and catches the Fallen player Bolt before they strike the ground. Apostolic restoration is therefore possible, although the corpus does not explain the exact cost or process of Aruna’s return. (Chapters 237–246 and 308–312)

Appearance and personality

Aruna is a massive Phoenix with a powerful beak, wings, and blue fire around the mouth and body. She is proud, argumentative, and prone to ignoring ordinary summons, but does not reject Night Sky’s direct command without cause. Her defiance coexists with reliable action once she commits, particularly when another airborne fighter or a rescue requires her speed. (Chapters 228–233 and 237–246)

Powers and abilities

Aruna flies with exceptional speed and maneuverability, tears large creatures with her beak, carries riders or enemies, emits blue flame, and absorbs surrounding fire to clear a route. Her physical strength can crack a magical icosahedral prison, though not immediately, and she can be killed by a stronger Dragon in close combat.
