Registering Name Stone

The Registering Name Stone is a jade component of the Immortal Mirror that records true spirits and binds their connection to its master. Recovered from Baiyin's possessions, it gives Lu Jiangxian a powerful means of admitting and summoning people into the world within the mirror. Its pleasant name conceals severe constraints on those registered without a Profound Pearl Talisman Seed.

History

Recovery from Baiyin's possessions

After the struggle over Baiyin, Xuanyi opens the captive's storage pouch in front of Ximing. Among the scattered bottles, talismans, and spirit items, Ximing notices a small bright-white stone. Its appearance is inconspicuous, but it is the component he has been seeking through the family's investigation of Falling Laurel and its associated ornament. The recovery follows the division of a weaker cultivator's possessions between powerful claimants, rather than a voluntary gift from Baiyin. (Chapters 1395 and 1399)

Back within a sealed pavilion, Ximing brings out the dull-looking stone and invokes the mirror. Profound light makes it refract multicolored brilliance and turn crystal-clear before it vanishes. Ximing himself is drawn into the mirror's world. Returning the component thus produces a change larger than acquiring another loose treasure: it restores an internal mechanism and opens a new relationship between the family and the world hidden within the artifact. (Chapter 1401)

Registration within the Mirror World

Lu identifies the stone as part of the mirror's body, rather than a fragment of its reflective surface. An image of the restored bronze mirror shows the star-bright jade embedded where the surrounding patterns converge. The returned treasure accounts for the edict Ximing hears and for the mirror's new transformation. Lu examines its authority over true spirits and recognizes the coercion underlying admission into his realm. (Chapter 1404)

To support connections beyond his immediate divine-sense range, Lu places four available seed pellets into the stone. It shines and produces name-bearing white talismans associated with visitors, including Jinlian and Chi Buzi. Later, the recorded trace of Huakong's true spirit gives Lu a means of summoning him after his death at Ximing's hands. Registration consequently affects continuing spiritual custody as well as entry by living guests. (Chapters 1404 and 1462)

Abilities and properties

Irreversible true-spirit inscription

When a person relaxes their mind and is illuminated by its profound light, a trace of their true spirit becomes permanently inscribed. A seed bearer can use that connection to ascend into the Mirror World. A person registered without a seed receives constraints without the seed's benefits: thoughts, life, and death fall under the mirror master's authority, and a summons can pull the soul from the body into the stone. Entering the mirror with soul and body does not remove the inscription. (Chapter 1404)

Refusing to open the mind can prevent that voluntary route, but is not an absolute safeguard. If physical death exposes the Shenyang Mansion and leaves the true spirit briefly uncovered during an attempt at rebirth or relinquishment of stations, the stone's light can register it then. This requires the relevant exposure before the artifact; the stone is not described as arbitrarily seizing every distant soul. (Chapter 1404)

Range and seed relays

The stone has a range limit linked to divine sense. Outside that reach, registered spirits need talisman seeds to respond and receive their communications with the stone, avoiding exposure to other powers. The relay does not require one permanently assigned seed for each individual; a few can serve the responses. Lu's placement of four pellets puts that mechanism into use. The stone and seeds are therefore related components with distinct functions, rather than interchangeable names for one object. (Chapter 1404)
