Tantai Jin
Tantai Jin’s authority in the Azure Pond Sect served both his own standing and the Si Family’s effort to preserve its influence.
Biography
The Si family’s sect representative
Tantai Jin first appears alongside Si Yuanli, receiving the elder’s instructions and offering his own assessment of Li Ximing. He later became the apparent choice to manage Azure Pond Sect affairs when Si Yuanli entered seclusion. The appointment was also political concealment: Tantai Jin was a direct descendant of a Purple Mansion cultivator and another member of the Si Family, though his selection was presented as a matter of talent. He served as acting sect master while the family worked to keep its hold on a sect with few Si relatives. (Chapters 1016, 1025–1026, 1129, 1245, 1251)
Yuanxiu had chosen Tantai Jin as a disciple when he was six, and Tantai revered him even more than his father. When Yuanxiu attempted Dao attainment, Tantai watched the familiar, meticulous master become a terrifying and altered figure; the sight left him shaken. Ning Wan later carried him away from the crisis and threw him into Northern Dan. After Yuanxiu’s death, Tantai was reported grieving before returning to Mount Azure Pond. By Chapter 1380 he had entered seclusion to attempt a Purple Mansion breakthrough and declined the sect-master seat, recommending Li Xizhi instead. (Chapters 1289–1290, 1292, 1299, 1380)
Appearance and personality
Tantai Jin is described wearing a crown and splendid robes. He approaches Si Yuanli with respectful familiarity, but his response to Yuanxiu’s transformation is one of profound shock, reflecting the reverence he felt for his master. (Chapters 1016, 1025, 1289)
Abilities and cultivation
Tantai Jin’s exact cultivation realm and personal techniques are not specified. He is identified as a direct descendant of a Purple Mansion cultivator, and later entered seclusion to attempt advancement to that realm. His documented role centers on administering the Azure Pond Sect and representing the Si Family’s interests. (Chapters 1129, 1245, 1380)
