Han Shizhen
Han Shizhen builds the Han Family’s standing through Eastern Sea trade and carefully cultivated ties with neighboring powers. His commercial instincts bring allies and opportunities, but he also conceals a valuable theft before an expedition from which he does not return. (Chapters 499, 589, 691–693, 707)
Biography
Trade and family alliances
As a young master, Shizhen approaches the Li family to apologize for a relative’s offense and turn the visit into a negotiation over trade. He bargains firmly over the Wanglin Blossom business, then later gains a reputation for honest dealings and organizes several Dongliu families to gather spiritual qi together and defend themselves from attack. Shizhen uses sociability, generosity, and an eye for mutual profit to make the Han Family a useful partner to the Li family. (Chapters 498–499, 589, 691)
The Qunyi Strait expedition
As family head, Shizhen repeatedly visits Li Xizhi and brings him a lead on Yuan Chengdun’s fate. Seeking the pair of Demon Subduing Copper Rods, he has the rogue cultivators who found them seized and takes the artifacts, then lies to Xizhi about their escape. He nevertheless leads Xizhi toward the Qunyi Strait to search for Yuan Tuan. Shizhen and a retainer die in Dragon Clan territory during the expedition; his death leaves the Han Family without two of its Foundation Establishment cultivators and unsettles the clan. (Chapters 691–693, 707, 978)
Appearance and personality
Shizhen is middle-aged by his later appearances and often wears a broad, welcoming smile. He is sociable and capable of generosity or humility when building relationships, but his appetite for valuable artifacts can overcome that diplomacy. (Chapters 498, 691, 693)
Abilities and cultivation
Shizhen reaches the late Foundation Establishment Realm and leads the Han Family as its head. He also has a scholar’s command of commercial and historical knowledge: he consults old texts to identify Demon Suppressing Stone and uses market intelligence to trace the origins of spirit items. (Chapters 691, 707)
