Chen Xuanyu
Chen Xuanyu is a swordsman of the Chen Family of Yuyang Prefecture. Recruited into Bi Yuzhuang’s ambush of Wang Fu, he supplies decisive offensive strength and later escorts the Li participants home. (Chapters 915–916, 930–935)
Biography
Sword fellowship and a concealed alliance
Xuanyu joins the ambush while his household still maintains a low profile. His arrival reassures the Li party because the Chen Family’s backing reduces the risk of standing alone against Changxiao Gate. His personal interest turns toward Li Xijun’s Frost and Snow Sword Essence: he hopes to spar and discuss swordsmanship, and praises the younger man’s resemblance to the Celestial Moon Sword. Once Xijun leaves the operation, Xuanyu fights alongside Qinghong instead, cutting through Wang Fu’s sword shadows and refusing to let the enemy’s appeals distract them. (Chapters 915–918, 930)
After Ximing suppresses Wang Fu, Xuanyu offers to make the killing stroke when the Lis hesitate to assume that responsibility. He helps examine the spoils but agrees that recognizably stolen weapons should be exchanged through Hengzhu Dao Gate rather than carried openly by either household. He advises Ximing about compatible fire artifacts, then accepts custody of Yuzhuang’s concealment veil to escort the party home. Their search around Xifeng Island exposes signs of a Merging Fire death instead of finding Xijun, casting a shadow over the proposed sword exchange. Xuanyu parts from Qinghong courteously and continues toward the Great Western Plains. (Chapters 930–932, 935)
Appearance and personality
Xuanyu is a dignified middle-aged man wearing a Daoist crown and blue pleated robes with green patterns. His black-sheathed sword matches the clothing. He speaks gently but acts decisively, displaying admiration for gifted swordsmen without letting that courtesy weaken his vigilance in battle. (Chapters 916, 930–931, 935)
Abilities and cultivation
Sword Essence and coordinated offense
His black sword energy cuts through Wang Fu’s many white sword shadows, while sharpened Sword Essence and sustained sword light force the enemy behind a protective bell. Xuanyu then strikes that bell with a golden ring, dispersing its dharma light and opening the way for Ximing’s suppression. His effectiveness comes through coordinated attacks rather than a demonstrated ability to defeat Wang Fu entirely alone. He also recognizes incompatibilities between cultivation methods and fire weapons, warning that the wrong wielder may be burned by an artifact. (Chapters 918, 930, 932)
