Zhang Wei
Zhang Wei is the stern leader of Han Xiao's Division 13 field team. Initially suspicious of an unexplained recruit, he changes his judgment when Han saves the squad and improves his cumbersome Combatant Armored Suit. Zhang Wei later fights beside Black Phantom, correctly suspects that the masked assassin is Han, and reports that conclusion despite official efforts to suppress the subject.
Biography
Escape from Germinal and the Aquamarine War
Zhang Wei returns to a five-person cell and warns Han that an unknown background and unproven skill could cost him his place, a position rooted in responsibility for a secret-operations team rather than simple hostility. During their emergency rescue mission, Zhang Wei withstands Hila's mental attack, carries Li Yalin to safety, and follows Han's remote directions; afterward he apologizes and formally welcomes Han. Han's upgrades turn Zhang Wei's crude captured armor into a far more effective frontline system, which he uses throughout later missions. At Tedramira River, Zhang Wei recognizes Black Phantom's familiar fighting rhythm, cooperates with him against a transformed Germinal executive, and reports his suspicion that the assassin is Han. His superiors dismiss the claim and order no further inquiry, but the later public identity record proves the team correct. Zhang Wei is last directly shown alive with Division 13 during the war and asking to join Han's extraction force, only to be refused because his team does not meet its standard. (Chapters 49–53, 69–84, 135, 141, 143–145, and 250)
Appearance and personality
The corpus provides little stable description of Zhang Wei outside his equipment, though his survival of Hila's mental strike is attributed to a strong physique. In the original gray armor he resembles a heavy iron giant. He is stern, blunt, cautious with new personnel, and strongly protective of his team. Once evidence changes, he admits mistakes readily and extends trust without abandoning his willingness to question authority. (Chapters 49–52, 76, and 145)
Abilities and class
Zhang Wei has no stated Super class. He is an experienced field commander and heavy-weapons operator who uses powered armor to absorb fire, provide cover, and anchor close combat. Han's overhaul adds an internal skeleton, analysis interface, scope, improved mobility, and additional weapon functions; in battle Zhang Wei operates twin machine guns, uses the suit as a defensive barrier, and deploys an arm-mounted blade when his ammunition is exhausted. (Chapters 50–53, 64, 69, 81, 141, and 143)
Relationships
- Han Xiao: Zhang Wei begins as Han's skeptical commander, then trusts his judgment after the rescue mission and accepts his equipment support. He later identifies Black Phantom as his former teammate and continues to regard Han as one of the squad despite the secrecy surrounding him. (Chapters 49–53, 62–76, 135, 143–145, and 250)
- Li Yalin: Li Yalin is one of Zhang Wei's core teammates. He carries her away from Hila's attack, fights beside her repeatedly, and shares her conclusion about Black Phantom's identity. (Chapters 49–52, 69–84, 135–145, and 250)
- Lin Yao: Zhang Wei commands Lin Yao during Division 13 operations and later explains the Black Phantom encounter to him. Both take part in confirming Han's identities from the wartime record. (Chapters 49, 69–84, 144, and 250)
- Lambert: Lambert is the squad's marksman and one of Zhang Wei's long-term field partners in the Germinal operations. (Chapters 49–52, 69–84, and 135–143)
Items
Zhang Wei's signature equipment is the prototype Combatant Armored Suit captured from Theseus and later rebuilt by Han. Its original heavy shell includes twin machine guns, leg thrusters, ammunition storage, and a back-mounted shield; the upgraded version adds an internal skeleton, targeting support, greater mobility, and an arm blade. The suit has no separate entry in the supplied inventory. (Chapters 50–53, 64, 69, 81, and 143)
