Ye Fan
Ye Fan is a Hesla Intelligence Department agent who coordinates the joint reconnaissance of the Germinal Organization's Dark Crow Valley base. His hacking produces valuable intelligence, but the enemy deliberately mixes accurate outer-sector data with false inner-sector defenses, turning his apparent success into bait for Hesla's assault force.
Biography
Escape from Germinal and the Aquamarine War
Ye Fan is mentioned by Zhang Wei before directly receiving Qi Bai Jia's Division 13 agents at Hesla's command center. He remains at the forward base while Winna's team infiltrates Dark Crow Valley, authorizes their deeper advance, and remotely breaches the captured officer's computer, copying twenty-eight percent of its files. Although uneasy that the success seems too easy, he rejects Han Xiao's unsupported warning and vouches for the information to Carl. The intelligence lets Hesla clear the outer sectors efficiently, but its falsified inner-sector material funnels the army into traps and heavy losses. Ye Fan acknowledges that the Germinal defenders deceived his team and criticizes Carl's rushed deployment rather than dying in the operation; Chapter 83 leaves him alive, with no later fate supplied. (Chapters 49, 72–83)
Appearance and personality
Ye Fan is an unkempt human man with short stubble and sunglasses, looking more like a market fishmonger than the glamorous figure Han imagines from his name. He is sociable and capable of dry humor, but he becomes serious in operations. Rational and mission-focused, he can authorize risks and challenge unsupported claims, while the failed intelligence operation shows that professional confidence does not make him infallible. (Chapters 72–76 and 83)
Abilities and class
Ye Fan is a seasoned Hesla hacker rather than a confirmed Super. Working remotely through an inserted chip, he defeats layered firewalls, passwords, and access restrictions in under three minutes and copies defense plans, structural data, and force estimates before Germinal technicians erase the server. His weakness in this incident is source validation: the files are genuine records, but selected portions were planted as strategic deception. (Chapters 75–77 and 82–83)
Relationships
- Winna: Ye Fan directs Winna's infiltration team and performs the remote hacking that converts its captured access into an intelligence package. Both are shaken when the package proves partly false. (Chapters 73–76 and 83)
- Han Xiao: Ye Fan initially regards Han as strange and later doubts his unsupported warning about the stolen data. Han's independent reconnaissance proves that warning correct, but the corpus does not show a later personal reconciliation. (Chapters 73 and 76–83)
- Qi Bai Jia: They coordinate the Hesla–Stardragon joint operation. Ye Fan questions Han's unexplained absence but also rejects the claim that it alone proves he is a spy. (Chapters 72, 76, and 79–80)
- Carl: Ye Fan reports to the Hesla commander and authenticates the reconnaissance package. After Carl attacks without waiting for Han's prisoners and suffers heavy losses, Ye Fan judges the commander's deployment too radical. (Chapters 72, 79–80, and 83)
Items
Ye Fan uses sunglasses, a computer, and a communications link during the Dark Crow Valley mission. His hacking arsenal includes hundreds of unnamed viruses and software bugs, but none of this equipment has a separate entry in the supplied inventory. (Chapters 72 and 75)
