Carl

Carl is a Hesla colonel who commands one contingent in the multinational assault on the Germinal headquarters. His contempt for Stardragon's agents, willingness to accept friendly casualties, and attempt to appropriate their achievements make him a secondary human antagonist during Han Xiao's Aquamarine campaign.

Biography

Escape from Germinal and the Aquamarine War

Carl studies the operation plan as Hesla's field commander but distrusts Stardragon and orders an early attack despite Han Xiao's intelligence. He knowingly fires missiles into a battlefield containing allied agents, then continues the campaign after the strike fails to kill them. Although subsequent losses prove the intelligence correct, Carl remains unapologetic and tries to use the agents as protection before stealing their credit. Han Xiao retaliates by baiting Carl out of his vehicle and killing him with a shot through the temple, leaving Hesla unable to prove responsibility. (Chapters 72, 79–84, and 87–88)

Appearance and personality

Carl is described as a muscular Caucasian man. He is radical, nationalistic, and deeply suspicious of Stardragon, treating its operatives as expendable pieces rather than allies. He is also ambitious and opportunistic: even after his choices cause avoidable losses, he focuses on claiming the operation's success and shows no regret for the friendly fire he ordered. Abilities and class

The corpus does not give Carl a Super class, grade, or personal supernatural ability. His authority comes from his colonel's rank and command of Hesla troops, vehicles, and missile support. He can interpret intelligence and organize an encirclement, but his tactical judgment is compromised by prejudice, self-interest, and a readiness to sacrifice allied personnel. Relationships

• Han Xiao: Carl dismisses Han Xiao's accurate intelligence, attempts to kill him along with the enemy, and later tries to seize credit for the operation. Han Xiao kills Carl in revenge while concealing enough evidence to prevent Hesla from proving the act.
