Secret Tree King

Secret Tree King is the Mage incumbent among the World Tree Civilization's Five Great Tree Kings. A powerful specialist in multidimensional magic, he opens a secondary-dimension front against the explored universe, converts a captured expedition team into World Tree members, and nearly destroys Clotti before Han Xiao reveals his Transcendent Grade power and seals him. The title belongs to a transferable Tree King Crown; its later availability to another candidate does not mean that candidate is Secret Tree King reborn or that she inherits his identity.

Biography

The World Tree War

Secret Tree King first appears in the Tree King Palace after Heart Tree King is sealed. He openly mocks both that failure and Fortitude Tree King's inability to prevent it, reflecting his dislike for every fellow Tree King except Ancestral Tree King. When the Mother Tree senses the birth of its natural enemy, Ancestral assigns him to hunt it in the secondary dimensions. Secret Tree King accepts without enthusiasm but personally assembles the Blessed Races, treating the mission as an opportunity to capture the explored universe's search parties and obtain the intelligence the World Tree lacks. (Chapters 1362–1410)

His intervention turns an attempted self-destruction into an intelligence disaster for the explored universe. Secret Tree King freezes spacetime around an expedition fleet, stops its reactors from exploding, and uses World Tree Roots to absorb and reconstruct the crews as loyal World Tree members. Their memories reveal the route to the expeditionary outposts; his forces then destroy those bases, expose the alliance with the Realmless King, and learn that the newborn Pivotal Snake is under enemy protection. He recognizes that an adult snake could locate the Mother Tree, reports the danger immediately, and expands his raid into a new secondary-dimension battlefront. (Chapters 1411–1413)

On that front, Secret Tree King overwhelms Clotti with rapid Forbidden Spells and considers only Han Xiao or EsGod worthy opponents. When Oathkeeper joins Clotti, Secret Tree King correctly suspects that Han Xiao is waiting to capture him and agrees to serve as bait for Ancestral Tree King's counterambush. He isolates Han Xiao inside a mirrored spatial barrier while secretly guiding Ancestral into position, but the plan collapses when Han Xiao reveals power comparable to the Tree God. Secret Tree King abandons his challenge and attempts to escape; Han Xiao destroys his spells, restrains him, and begins sealing him in Spacetime Amber. (Chapters 1414–1415)

Ancestral Tree King then recalls Secret Tree King's Crown to fuel the incomplete Tree God's descent, abandoning the trapped incumbent and removing his last chance to break free. Han Xiao completes the seal, after which the vacant Mage Crown is offered to another qualified World Tree mage as a reward for killing the Pivotal Snake. That offer concerns succession to an office and its accumulated magic, not Secret Tree King's resurrection. The proposed successor is not shown taking the Crown before Ancestral later shatters it to empower the Tree God. After the war, Heart Tree King's mental-network report lists Secret Tree King among the dead; the corpus does not show a separate revival or a new person becoming the original incumbent. (Chapters 1415–1442)

Appearance and personality

The corpus does not provide distinctive facial features, clothing, species, or age for Secret Tree King's ordinary body. In the Tree King Palace, roots or rays of green light condense into his physical form, and in battle he appears as a humanoid figure capable of looking pale, changing expression, and casting with his hands. His magic and the green power of the World Tree are more visually specific than his body: runes, portals, spatial fractures, mirrored barriers, and dense multicolored spell bombardments surround him when he fights. (Chapters 1362, 1408, and 1411–1415)

He is arrogant, mocking, competitive, and impatient with perceived weakness. Secret Tree King disdains the other incumbents, ridicules failed self-destructions, and taunts Clotti after establishing a decisive advantage. That pride does not make him tactically oblivious: he identifies Han Xiao's likely ambush, coordinates a countertrap, understands the Pivotal Snake's strategic danger, and retreats immediately once Transcendent Grade power makes the original plan impossible. His loyalty is strongest toward Ancestral Tree King and the Mother Tree, even though Ancestral ultimately sacrifices his Crown and abandons him. (Chapters 1362, 1408–1415)

Abilities and class

Secret Tree King is a peak Beyond Grade A Mage whose spell strength, casting frequency, and speed surpass the other Mages Clotti has encountered. His magic draws on multidimensional energy and is especially effective in the secondary-dimension environment. The Tree King Crown further connects him to the Mother Tree's power, mental network, and institutional magic, but the Crown and the person wearing it are not the same identity.

Multidimensional and Forbidden Magic

Secret Tree King can draw on multidimensional energy to construct Forbidden Spells at exceptional speed and in sustained volleys. Against Clotti, he combines raw destructive output with an Annihilation spell that makes the target's cells wither, overpowering the National Pillar's dark-energy attacks with little visible effort. Oathkeeper judges that the secondary-dimension environment strengthens these spells. His offense is formidable by Beyond Grade A standards, but Han Xiao's Transcendent Grade energy suppresses it so completely that barriers, portals, and prepared Forbidden Spells collapse under one psionic wave. (Chapters 1414–1415)

Spacetime, portals, and dimensional barriers

His control magic can freeze spacetime across an entire fleet, halting people, machinery, and an imminent reactor self-destruction. He opens portals between secondary dimensions, establishes surveillance magic that will alert him when a target returns, and creates mirrored spatial barriers that isolate combatants into parallel spaces. He also uses perception magic to search a dimension and can secretly guide Ancestral Tree King through a prepared barrier. These techniques support capture, pursuit, ambush, and battlefield control, although Han Xiao's superior speed and power can destroy them before they complete their intended function. (Chapters 1411–1415)

Anti-divination

When Aesop's foresight touches him, Secret Tree King senses the observation, traces its source through the prophetic connection, and sends magical force back along it. The counterattack shatters the vision and inflicts a spiritual injury severe enough to interrupt Aesop's prophetic work during recovery. This is presented as an exceptional feat even among Beyond Grade A Mages. It is reactive rather than general omniscience: Secret Tree King notices the specific attempt to predict him and retaliates through that connection. (Chapters 1411 and 1420)

Tree King power and assimilation

Through the Tree King position, he can call World Tree Roots across a spatial crack and use them to absorb ships and living crews. The World Tree reconstructs those victims at the information-form layer as loyal members, after which Secret Tree King can access their memories through the shared mental network. This method lets him turn captured enemies into both soldiers and intelligence sources. It depends on the World Tree system rather than being ordinary personal spellcraft, and its strategic effect is demonstrated when one converted expedition team exposes the entire secondary-dimension outpost network. (Chapters 1411–1413)

Tree King Crown, office, and revival limits

The Mage Crown is one of five class-specific Tree King positions created by the Mother Tree. It supplies special power and stores magic accumulated by generations of incumbents, so it can pass to a qualified successor without transferring the prior incumbent's personal consciousness. Ancestral recalls Secret Tree King's Crown while Secret Tree King is being sealed, later offers the vacant office to another mage, and ultimately destroys the Crown through Tree Crown Liberation so the Tree God can use its magical knowledge and power. The original Secret Tree King remains a separate individual throughout and is later reported dead rather than reborn as the proposed successor. (Chapters 1362, 1415, 1429, 1438, and 1442)

World Tree members normally benefit from a revival mechanism, which makes conventional death or self-destruction a reusable tactical option. Secret Tree King nevertheless avoids self-destruction after seeing Han Xiao's Transcendent Grade, believing such power may attack the information-form foundation and bypass World Tree revival. Han Xiao does not yet possess that ability during their encounter, but the fear is strategically sound; sealing also cuts Secret Tree King off from normal recovery. The corpus later records his death after his Crown has been destroyed, without depicting another incarnation of the same person. (Chapters 1404, 1415, 1418, and 1442)

Relationships

  • Ancestral Tree King: Secret Tree King respects Ancestral more than any other incumbent and carries out his order to hunt the Pivotal Snake. They coordinate an ambush against Han Xiao, but Ancestral abandons him once the trap fails, recalls his Crown, and later destroys it to strengthen the Tree God. (Chapters 1362, 1409, 1414–1415, and 1438)
  • Mother Tree: Secret Tree King's office, mental network, assimilation power, and strategic loyalties all derive from the Mother Tree. He treats the Pivotal Snake as an existential threat because its maturation could reveal the Mother Tree's location to the explored universe. (Chapters 1362 and 1409–1413)
  • Fortitude Tree King: The two Tree Kings are openly hostile colleagues. Secret Tree King mocks Fortitude's failures and rejects his authority, while Fortitude responds in kind; their rivalry is personal but does not prevent both from following Ancestral's decisions. (Chapters 1362 and 1408)
  • Han Xiao: Secret Tree King wants to fight the explored universe's strongest Mechanic and tries to lure him into a two-on-one ambush. Han Xiao's revealed Transcendent Grade power terrifies him, destroys his escape magic, and seals him before Ancestral can turn the encounter around. (Chapters 1414–1418)
  • Clotti: Secret Tree King dominates Clotti in direct combat and dismisses him as unworthy of serious attention. Clotti survives because Oathkeeper intervenes and helps hold the Mage in place until Han Xiao arrives. (Chapter 1414)
  • Pivotal Snake: The newborn Pivotal Snake is the Mother Tree's natural enemy and Secret Tree King's assigned target. Discovering that the explored universe controls and protects it changes his secondary-dimension raid from a local intelligence operation into an urgent attempt to eliminate a civilization-level threat. (Chapters 1409–1413)
  • Heart Tree King: Secret Tree King initially mocks Heart Tree King for being sealed rather than self-destructing. He later suffers the same fate, although Han Xiao's Transcendent strength leaves him far less opportunity to choose. Heart Tree King's final report distinguishes the dead Secret Tree King from the surviving Heart Tree King and the destroyed Crowns. (Chapters 1362, 1415, and 1442)

Items

Secret Tree King has no persistent named personal item in the generated inventory. His Tree King Crown is a transferable office-bound power container supplied by the Mother Tree, not a personal possession retained after capture; Ancestral removes it, offers its succession separately, and later destroys it to empower the Tree God.
