The Realmless King is a powerful secondary-dimension life form who rules a stable region said to contain millions of dimensions. He initially captures Harrison's expedition and attempts to bargain with Han Xiao, but Black Star's superior force and the danger of the Mother Tree progressively bind him to the three Universal Civilizations. By his last appearances he is still alive, though his grand title contrasts with his unwilling work as the Pivotal Snake's keeper.

Biography

The World Tree War

The Realmless King first appears through his guardian Bobanica, which seizes Harrison's expedition as an offering. Rather than eat the captives, he studies their memories, recognizes Black Star as a dangerous backer, and tries to trade their release while keeping leaked civilization coordinates as insurance. Han accepts a deal to recover a stolen embryonic dimension, then defeats the entities occupying it and pressures the Realmless King into providing intelligence, territory, and cooperation. More than a decade later, the three Universal Civilizations have converted his lent dimensions into expedition outposts and compel him to provide more. When a Pivotal Snake hatches, Han also forces him to supply territory as food and serve as its keeper. The World Tree's blitz destroys the outposts, and the Secret Tree King searches the Realmless King's empty home; realizing that tending the snake has accidentally saved him from capture, the Realmless King commits to the civilizations' side. He remains alive, guarded by mechanical troops, feeding and protecting the snake, and functioning as a dimensional communications relay through Chapter 1433. Appearance and personality

The Realmless King is a mountain-sized black humanoid entity with many heads, many arms, countless red eyes, and a body that makes rustling sounds like crawling insects. He sits on a throne amid black fog and scarlet-lit mountains. Despite the terrifying presentation and inflated ceremonial titles, he is calculating, cautious, greedy for souls, and quick to avoid stronger enemies. He resents coercion but adapts pragmatically when the World Tree leaves neutrality impossible. (Chapters 1366–1368 and 1412)

Abilities and class

As an almost infinitely lived dimensional deity, the Realmless King controls black matter that devours matter and energy, converts dimensions into territory, blocks energy senses, and serves as a medium for his projected power. His guardians can teleport captives to his realm, while his territorial awareness detects disturbances across his domain. He can read memories, absorb souls and causal force, empower another being through a temporary projection, and provide the dimensional connection Han uses to reach Harrison. He is powerful within the secondary-dimension world but still yields to Black Star's greater direct combat strength. (Chapters 1366–1369, 1412, and 1430–1433)

Relationships

  • Han Xiao: Their relationship begins as a tense hostage bargain. Han fulfills the recovery mission but then uses his superior power to extract cooperation, territory, and caretaking labor; the Realmless King nevertheless recognizes that Black Star's demand to tend the snake saved him from the World Tree.   • Harrison: The Realmless King captures Harrison, reads his memories, and spares him because of his connection to Han. Their magical brand later lets the King act as a transit point for communications. (Chapters 1366–1369, 1430, and 1433)
  • Pivotal Snake: He is forced to feed, escort, and supervise the hatchling. The role is burdensome, but it also removes him from his home when the World Tree comes to capture him. (Chapters 1409–1412, 1418, 1421, 1430, and 1432)
