Pan Kuang
Pan Kuang, known as the Sword Phantom and Soul of the Blade, is the Germinal Organization executive commanding Dark Crow Valley base. An E+ Pugilist close to D-class, he combines exceptional speed, protective energy, and a heavy machete style until Han Xiao isolates and kills him during the base's destruction.
Biography
Escape from Germinal and the Aquamarine War
Pan Kuang oversees the Dark Crow Valley base while his deputy Ji Jie prepares false intelligence and a self-destruct trap for the invading forces. When Hesla attacks, Pan enters the forest battle, kills hundreds of soldiers, destroys armored vehicles, and withdraws before enemy agents can pin him down. He later protects Ji Jie during their escape, but Han kills the deputy and forces Pan into an isolated duel. Explosives, incendiary ammunition, armor, and an illusion created through a Character Summon Card gradually overcome him; after suffering mortal wounds, Pan stops breathing and Han receives explicit confirmation of the kill in Chapter 86. His corpse is used as bait afterward. The Chapter 288 condition that “Pan Kuang and Ji Jie survive” belongs to a replayable dungeon mission and does not reverse either death. (Chapters 63, 70, 75, 83–88, and 288)
Appearance and personality
Pan Kuang is a thirty-five-year-old Asian man whose intelligence photograph shows an ordinary-looking, emotionless face with an unusually fierce presence. In battle he appears grim and controlled, carrying a dark, long machete marked by years of killing. He is cautious enough to warn Ji Jie against complacency and disciplined enough to retreat from a bad engagement, yet becomes single-minded and furious after Ji Jie's death. His loyalty is practical as well as personal: he refuses to abandon the exhausted deputy partly because Ji Jie's sister controls Germinal's intelligence network. (Chapters 70, 75, and 83–86)
Abilities and class
Pan Kuang is a level-38 E+ Super with documented Agent, Amateur Pugilist, and Stormblader training. He specializes in blade combat, high-speed movement, danger sensing, and wind-like protective energy. He can anticipate bullets, deflect or split them with his machete, redirect a rocket, cut armored vehicles, and unleash a wide storm of slashes. His defense makes ordinary gunfire inefficient, but prolonged fighting depletes his energy, and Han exploits that weakness with explosives, adhesive incendiary rounds, an illusion, and close-range attacks. (Chapters 70, 83, and 85–86)
Relationships
- Ji Jie: Ji Jie is Pan Kuang's deputy and planning partner at Dark Crow Valley. Pan follows his evacuation scheme, saves him during the ambush, and drags him through the retreat rather than leaving him behind.
- Han Xiao: Han targets Pan as part of destroying the base, kills Ji Jie to provoke and isolate him, then defeats Pan in a carefully prepared duel despite the Pugilist's superior close-combat technique.
- Lin Yao and Lambert: The infiltrators expose the base's plans and help arrange the ambush that scatters Pan's retreating force, though neither personally defeats him.
Items
Pan Kuang's principal weapon is the Wind-Slicing Blade, a dark, long alloy machete with a cloth-wrapped handle and dried blood on it. It is exceptionally sturdy, increases attack speed through its smooth handling, and deals additional damage to metal. The intelligence briefing's “Blade-soul” wording functions as an epithet associated with Pan and his blade style; the named weapon revealed in combat is the Wind-Slicing Blade.
