Herberlon

Herberlon is the surviving collective mechanical life created by the Karma Republic's failed Fusion Mechanical Ascension. First catalogued by Han Xiao as SWY-001, he contains the flesh, machinery, memories, and power of many sacrificed Mechanics. After Aurora awakens him, he chooses the name Herberlon and joins the explored universe's war against the civilization that destroyed his home.

Biography

Sanctum Revival and the Super Crisis

Han Xiao receives Herberlon as an enormous mechanical wreck and identifies him as SWY-001 before decoding the memories inside both his machine systems and biological brain. Those records show that the Karma Republic fused a peak Beyond Grade A with many Grade A and Grade B Mechanics in a failed attempt to create a higher Mechanical God; the process instead produced a powerful collective consciousness that was defeated and drifted for roughly six centuries. Aurora restores his nearly extinguished life, after which he wakes in panic, mistakes his surroundings for World Tree captivity, and tries to flee. Once subdued and informed of the elapsed time, the collective chooses the name Herberlon and agrees to verify his homeland's fate and cooperate in revenge. (Chapters 1287, 1294, 1310, and 1312)

The World Tree War

With Han Xiao's help, Herberlon repairs and reconfigures his immense body, tests different battle loadouts, and recovers enough strength to rival the first tier of the explored universe's Beyond Grade As. The first victories over the World Tree replace some of his trauma with hope and a desire to take part in difficult battles. He eventually descends onto the battlefield against his former conquerors, where Fortitude Tree King and the other World Tree experts recognize him from the destruction of the Karma Republic. Herberlon repeatedly restrains his old enemy in Mechanical Deity combat and, during the final attack on the World Tree's main body, tears through its roots in a long-awaited campaign of revenge. Appearance and personality

Herberlon has an enormous body that fuses biological tissue with machinery and can expand into Mechanical Deity-scale battle configurations. When first awakened, his eyes are colorless and his voice sounds like countless people speaking together with an ethereal quality. His initial panic and suspicion reflect the unfinished war in his memory, while his fundamental priorities remain protecting the Karma Republic and avenging it. Once convinced, he becomes solemn, technically exacting, appreciative of Han Xiao's help, and eager to confront the World Tree. (Chapters 1287, 1312, 1328, and 1343)

Abilities and class

Herberlon is a top-tier Beyond Grade A Mechanic produced through Fusion Mechanical Ascension. His body uses flesh full of Super cells to power mechanical systems, can absorb or reshape machinery, grow extra arms and weapon modules, generate force fields, and fight as a massive Mechanical Deity. Attached parts may naturally mutate into unique equipment comparable to Apostle Weapons, and Herberlon gives Han Xiao samples of these mutated carriers. In battle he uses heavy psionic fire, adaptive armor, close-combat configurations, a giant blade, and high-speed techniques such as Deity Maneuver. (Chapters 1294, 1312, 1328, and 1360)

Relationships

• Han Xiao: Han Xiao recovers, studies, restrains, repairs, and equips Herberlon. Herberlon accepts him as a powerful ally against the World Tree and credits him with giving the explored universe a chance the Karma Republic never had.
• Aurora: Aurora restores Herberlon's fading life force and regenerates enough of his broken body for him to awaken.
• Fortitude Tree King: Fortitude helped destroy the Karma Republic and recognizes Herberlon as an old survivor. Their repeated Mechanical Deity clashes make them personal wartime rivals.
• Mother Tree: The World Tree civilization destroys Herberlon's homeland and seeks to absorb him; destroying its forces and roots becomes the focus of his revenge.

Items

Herberlon's weapons are modular extensions of his body rather than clearly separate named possessions. His configurations include adaptive armor, reactors, thrusters, force-field systems, energy outlets, and a giant psionic blade. Because attached mechanical parts can mutate into special living equipment, the boundary between his body and inventory is inherently unstable. (Chapters 1328, 1359–1360)
