Darryl

Darryl Alumera, nicknamed the Alumera White Bear, is the head of the Alumera family's coalition of vagrant warlords. His authority rests on the Home Faction, but the organization's growing internal rivalries leave him vulnerable to an assassination designed to implicate Han Xiao.

Biography

Escape from Germinal and the Aquamarine War

Darryl reacts violently when Balsas loses Green Valley Ville, but suppresses his desire for revenge after learning Han Xiao was involved because antagonizing a legendary mobile assassin would endanger Alumera's entire command structure. When Han Xiao visits, Darryl tries to assert authority, demands an explanation for the dead Alumera men, and then tolerates the visitor while denying any Germinal alliance. Privately, he resents the power accumulated by his second-in-command, Xiao Jin, and regrets an earlier plot against Xiao Jin's faction. During the night, Su Dinghua shoots Darryl through the eye and kills him instantly as part of a Raylen operation meant to frame Han Xiao and provoke conflict between Alumera and the Dark Net. Later speculation that Xiao Jin knew the attack was coming remains Han Xiao's unproven theory; Su Dinghua and Raylen are the identified killer and sponsor. Darryl's death triggers the succession contest that ends with Xiao Jin taking leadership. (Chapters 147, 160, and 202–213)

Appearance and personality

Darryl is extremely bulky, breathing and built like a bear, which gives rise to his White Bear nickname. His study displays firearms, ammunition, daggers, and swords instead of books. He is violent, impatient, territorial, and prone to shouting or smashing objects, but not incapable of risk assessment: he backs away from provoking Han Xiao once he understands the likely consequences. (Chapters 160 and 202–205)

Abilities and class

The corpus does not state Darryl's class, combat grade, or any supernatural ability. His power is organizational: he leads one of the Northern Continent's strongest warlord forces, controls the Home Faction, recruits strong commanders, and directs settlements and armed personnel across multiple territories. His instantaneous death to a concealed handgun shot gives no reliable measure of his personal fighting ability. (Chapters 147, 160, 203, and 205)

Relationships

  • Han Xiao: Darryl initially treats him as a dangerous enemy, then avoids direct conflict. Raylen frames Han Xiao for Darryl's assassination, but he is cleared.
  • Xiao Jin: Darryl's second-in-command and principal internal rival. Darryl had secretly targeted Xiao Jin's faction, while Xiao Jin benefits politically from solving the assassination and succeeds him.
  • Alumera Lagos: Darryl's son and expected successor, whose later death leaves the Home Faction without its strongest claim to the leadership.
  • Balsas: Alumera subordinate whose loss of Green Valley Ville prompts Darryl's anger and brings Han Xiao into the family's affairs.

Items

No persistent named personal item is established for Darryl. His study contains a collection of firearms, ammunition, daggers, and swords, but no individual weapon is identified as his signature equipment.
