Gwen

Gwen, whose full name is Gwendolyn Dragonborne, is a dragonborn mage, founding member of Kai LuForia’s adventuring party, and one of his principal wives. An apparent failure among her own people, she rebuilds herself through field experience and a recovered draconic inheritance, then grows from an abandoned Tier-2 adventurer into a true Dragon Class combatant and, eventually, a god.

Biography

Surviving betrayal and choosing a new party

Gwen begins as a newly promoted D-rank adventurer whose first party catastrophically exceeds its limits. After trolls kill several members, her surviving companions abandon her in the wilderness. Injured, nearly out of mana, and pursued for three days, she still fights with lightning from the staff her father gave her. Kai saves and heals her, but Gwen personally kills the last restrained troll with fire, ice, lightning, and crushing water, turning her terror into an act of survival without pretending the trauma has disappeared. (Chapter 34)

Back in Hearthwood, Gwen furiously rejects Phil’s apology and refuses ever to work with the leader who left her behind. She also refuses to retire. To Gwen, accepting the profession’s danger means learning from the disaster rather than allowing it to end her ambitions. Kai’s rescue and promise not to abandon her make him appear more trustworthy than companions she had known for months, so she accepts his offer to form a new party. That choice establishes the durable partnership around which both her career and later family life develop. (Chapter 35)

Gwen quickly becomes the practical conscience of the pair. She pushes them to leave a town with limited work, urges Kai to help a plague-stricken village, identifies the contaminated river as an unresolved threat, and is outraged that a demon’s scheme has killed children. Her relationship with Kai is nevertheless compromised from its beginning: although she is attracted to him before joining, he secretly hypnotizes her after she notices his mental influence and later initiates their sexual relationship under that continuing control. Her affection and agency therefore coexist with coercion the narrative never reverses. (Chapters 38–47)

Reclaiming her dragonborn inheritance

On the road, Gwen’s compassion repeatedly overcomes Kai’s preference for avoiding political danger. She insists that they protect the fugitive princess Tyria, helps expose the Knightmare conspiracy, and supports the rescued princess through her first bloody quest. Gwen also supplies the party’s local knowledge about guild ranks, magic, demons, and labyrinths. Her wish to reach the Hero Academy is explicitly her own: when offered power from the Hero’s Sword, she refuses because she wants to become strong through her own development. (Chapters 48–62)

The Frost Drake encounter exposes why that development has always felt incomplete. Gwen was born in Dragon Valley with drake, wyvern, and dragon blood, but the three pure inheritances failed to harmonize; she never awakened at ten, was treated as defective by siblings and parents, and fled to prove herself elsewhere. After the slain drake triggers slit eyes and a changed mana signature, Gwen finally explains her history. At Kai’s urging she consumes the Frost Drake Heart, awakening red scales, talons, enhanced physical power, and Tier-3 mana. The result replaces resignation with exuberant pride. (Chapters 65–68)

Gwen then helps turn the expanding group into a real combat team. Her rivalry with Amaya produces frequent arguments but also fast mutual rescues and coordinated attacks, while she welcomes Sasha, Kyana, and Nadya into defined roles. Dragon cores acquired during later hunts advance her incomplete transformation; after processing the final core in Chapter 185, she emerges as a true Dragon Class dragonborn with far greater attributes and a predator’s aura. The change lets her confront the stigma that once drove her from home rather than merely escape it. (Chapters 70–124, 133–185)

Homecoming and intercontinental leadership

Gwen returns to Dragon Valley not to reconcile, but to demonstrate that her family’s judgment did not define her. She respectfully reports to Chief Josslyn, shows the class she has awakened, and declines pressure to rebuild relationships with relatives who abused her. When her siblings resume mocking her, she stops Kai from acting for her and faces them herself; when her father threatens to dispose of her, she displays her power and leaves on her own terms. The visit gives her public vindication without requiring forgiveness. (Chapters 206–208)

In Eridani, Gwen embraces starting over as a mercenary and pushes the group through low-level work until it earns interesting assignments. Her curiosity about new lands is matched by increasing command ability. During the Spirit Realm campaign, she leads the northern team aboard the party’s ship, reassures frightened spirits, orders them to conserve strength behind the vessel’s defenses, and personally defeats the Demon Knight guarding the northern orb. She is no longer simply Kai’s first recruit; she can plan, command, and win while separated from him. (Chapters 217–285)

Her loyalty to Kai remains fierce but not silent. Gwen criticizes his cruel illusion against Barry, physically stands between the two men when their moral dispute escalates, and later helps restrain Kai when alien progenitor power controls his mind, suffering catastrophic injuries in the attempt. After he returns ashamed, she is the first to embrace him. Back in Sarkylla she steadies him before his first children are born and participates in their care, extending her role from competitive partner and field leader into the household’s senior, often maternal presence. (Chapters 267, 301, 306–309, 335–345)

Choosing family and returning to divine war

During Astalith’s liberation, Gwen often supplies the cautious option without avoiding battle. She urges communication with the resistance before a rescue, questions plans that would endanger innocent survivors, frees quarry slaves beside Kyana, and develops black lightning and a colossal dragon form capable of destroying armies. Her violence against hostile soldiers and demons grows extreme, but it remains attached to the party’s chosen campaign rather than personal rule. By the war’s end, sustained travel has left her exhausted rather than eager for another continent. (Chapters 346–415)

Gwen therefore tells Kai that she will not accompany him to Skadi. She still wants future adventures, but wants rest and time with the household’s children, and refuses his assumption that her decision obliges him to stop traveling. This is one of her clearest independent choices after years of following his itinerary: she identifies her own limit, reassures him, and returns home with the original party. The separation is temporary, but it changes travel from an automatic duty into something she can accept or decline. (Chapters 415–416)

When the family reunites for the time-barrier crisis, Gwen returns because she misses both Kai and adventuring. Ordinary magic fails against chrono-beasts, forcing her to protect civilians until she receives time-attuned equipment. Later training produces a vast black-and-red, three-headed dragon state with enough speed and force to slaughter gods. By Chapter 557 she has become a full god, and by the ending she remains part of the family Kai protects with the Spark, opposing an immediate repetition of their old rank-grinding life while accepting the prospect of future worlds and journeys. (Chapters 515–531, 557, 579)

Appearance and personality

Gwen is a twenty-year-old, five-foot-five woman with red hair and a voluptuous build. At her debut she wears a revealing mage outfit and carries the staff inherited from her father; lightning makes her hair rise when she casts. Her ordinary eye color is not stated. Early dragonification gives her slit eyes, red scales over her arms and legs, talons, sharper teeth, enhanced senses, and eventually a tail and wings. Her completed Dragon Class does not change her resting human features, but adds a visibly predatory aura. (Chapters 34, 54, 65–68, 185)

Later transformations become progressively less human. Gwen can assume a gigantic winged dragon form, use pitch-black scales while channeling black lightning, and eventually manifest black scales marked by flame-bright red patches and three heads. She is blunt, profane, competitive, curious, and quick to anger, but also protective and practical. She can laugh at danger, revel in battle, or burn enemies without remorse, yet consistently notices vulnerable civilians, questions reckless plans, comforts frightened companions, and asserts limits when prolonged adventuring becomes unhealthy. (Chapters 181, 206–208, 276, 346–416, 515–531)

Powers and abilities

Mana and elemental spellcasting

Gwen is a broad elemental mage whose early repertoire includes fireballs, icicles, lightning, water prisons, barriers, and large-area spells. The setting describes spellcasting as natural mana passing through the body and then through a spell, which filters and shapes its greater raw force. Gwen primarily channels magic through Gwen’s Staff, but can cast without it after awakening her blood. Fire becomes her preferred element: she produces walls, arrows, rain, pillars, blue flame, and breath attacks, and can combine a fire formation with Kyana’s wind spirit to create a much stronger Ultra Flame Nova. (Chapters 34, 45, 64–70, 137, 284)

Her casting is constrained by reserves, matchup, and scale rather than a stated incantation rule. Exhaustion weakens her barriers, and her strongest early dragon-killing spell fails when the controlled target recovers its full power. Chrono-beasts ignore even her destructive magic until she uses time-attuned arms. As her mana and draconic body grow, she moves from precise staff work to battlefield-scale weather and breath attacks, including Thunder Dragon Storm, black flame, and black lightning capable of erasing large formations. The corpus does not assign consistent numerical costs or ranges to these later spells. (Chapters 65, 137, 369–375, 398, 516–517)

Dragonborn blood and transformations

Gwen is born with all three dragonborn inheritances. Dragonborn normally receive elevated mana, strength, stamina, and senses, then awaken an attribute at ten: drake blood supplies transformed limbs, teeth, and senses; wyvern blood adds tail and horns; dragon blood adds wings and breath. Gwen’s unusually pure lines clash instead of operating together, leaving those racial bonuses present but preventing transformation. Consuming the Frost Drake Heart restores the drake component at its source, permanently activates the first transformation, and raises her to Tier 3. The narrative establishes the result, while Kai’s explanation of the bloodline conflict remains his diagnosis. (Chapters 66–68)

Further dragon cores culminate in Gwen’s Dragon Class and full suite of draconic traits. Kai later grants her the ability to become an enormous complete dragon, after which training expands it into the black-and-red three-headed war form. These bodies multiply reach, physical power, flight, sensory range, breath output, and durability without sacrificing speed; Gwen transports the party, crushes gods with talons and tail, and attacks from multiple heads. Their size is also an environmental liability—one transformation destroys the castle around her—and superior beings can still overpower or injure her. (Chapters 181–185, 285, 369–375, 398, 515–531)

Physical combat, teamwork, and divinity

Drake awakening lets Gwen fight effectively without a staff. Scales break an infected creature’s teeth, claws tear through armored or magically reinforced enemies, and her tail becomes another cutting weapon. She pairs those traits with a mage’s control: Amaya occupies close targets while Gwen covers lanes, Kyana feeds wind into fire, and Gwen’s aerial mobility lets her lead or transport an entire formation. Her competitiveness can tempt her toward excess, but she also redirects attacks, warns allies, protects civilians, and assumes command when Kai is absent. (Chapters 68–70, 82, 114–115, 137, 220, 284–285)

By Chapter 557 Gwen is explicitly a full god alongside the original party’s other principal women. The ascent occurs off-page and the corpus does not identify its ritual, exact source, or Gwen-specific divine domain. Her earlier god-killing Dragon Class form precedes that formal reveal and should not itself be treated as proof that she had already reached godhood. After the reveal, no separate divine technique is demonstrated before the supplied endpoint, so her latest confirmed state is godhood layered over her established magic and dragon transformations. (Chapters 530–531, 557–579)

Relationships

  • Kai LuForia: Kai rescues Gwen, helps restore her dragon blood, and becomes her adventuring partner and husband. Gwen loves, challenges, protects, and occasionally refuses him, although his secret hypnosis makes the relationship’s foundation coercive.
  • Amaya: Gwen’s closest rival and “battle buddy.” They compete for Kai and exchange insults, but repeatedly rescue one another, combine attacks, and share responsibility within the main party.
  • Kyana, Sasha, and Nadya: Gwen grows from Kai’s first recruit into the senior member of a five-woman core. Their teamwork carries them from mortal adventuring through god-killing combat and eventual godhood.
  • Tyria: Gwen insists on protecting the fugitive princess, helps her adjust to field violence, and remains a trusted friend after Tyria returns to court.
  • Barry: Gwen objects when Kai psychologically torments Barry, but ultimately defends Kai when Barry challenges his rejection of universal heroic duty.
  • Josslyn: Dragon Valley’s chief supports Gwen’s late awakening and respects her refusal to reconcile with abusive relatives, giving her an accepting link to her birthplace without demanding submission to it.

Items

  • Gwen’s Staff: A gift from Gwen’s father that she still carries while stranded after her first party abandons her. It channels her early lightning and other spellcasting, though dragon awakening later lets her fight without it. (Chapter 34)
  • Frost Drake Heart: The heart Kai removes from the slain frost drake and persuades Gwen to consume. It permanently awakens her drake blood, produces her first partial transformation, and raises her to Tier 3. (Chapters 65–67)
