Tyria
Tyria Sarkylla is an elven princess whose attempt to escape royal supervision places her inside her uncle Thorax's succession conspiracy. Kai LuForia and Gwen rescue her, escort her through her first adventuring work, and help recover her captive guard, Annabeth. Tyria's dependence on them begins in fear but becomes a durable friendship: she later asks her father to wait for Kai during the Demon King crisis and personally brings Kai into the royal family's unresolved conflict with Thorax.
Biography
Flight from court and an assassination conspiracy
Tyria first appears unconscious after assassins pursue her into Kai and Gwen's camp. Once Kai heals her, she introduces herself formally and promises to repay the strangers who saved her. Her first attempt to secure protection relies on rank—she demands an escort as their princess—but Kai's refusal makes the danger real to her. Tyria abandons command for an honest plea, admitting that she ran from her guards because she wanted an adventure beyond a life in which every outing and decision was controlled by the court. (Chapters 49–50)
The consequences of that escape exceed anything Tyria expected. Learning that the assassins serve her uncle Thorax replaces her excitement with fear and confusion, because she has not imagined herself as an obstacle in a succession scheme. Kai agrees to take her only as far as Brightfield and imposes the conditions of ordinary travel rather than royal privilege. Tyria accepts because survival now depends on the adventurers, while their willingness to keep her creates the first relationship in which she participates as a companion instead of being managed as a princess. (Chapters 50–51)
Travel also exposes the limits of Tyria's sheltered outlook. She is fascinated by the first hero's tomb and initially cannot understand why Kai and Gwen prioritize food, rank, and paid work over legendary glory. Gwen's explanation of the distance between royal security and an adventurer's uncertain livelihood embarrasses Tyria rather than making her defensive. Kai then makes her an honorary party member, allowing her to pursue the adventure she wanted while placing it inside a group whose rules and material pressures she must respect. (Chapter 51)
First battle and the rescue of Annabeth
Tyria chooses a kobold-clearing request with untested enthusiasm. Her academy training makes her an accurate combat caster, and she kills kobolds with precise water attacks, but technique does not prepare her for burning bodies, dismemberment, or blood. She stumbles in the fight and vomits afterward, leaving her exposed when Thorax's assassins attack again. The experience breaks her romantic image of adventuring without making her abandon her companions or her responsibility for the danger she created. (Chapters 52–53)
When the captured assassin reveals that Annabeth is being tortured as bait, Tyria immediately chooses rescue over continuing the party's planned quests. She argues that Annabeth's capture is her fault and insists that freeing her comes first. Inside the Knightmares' base, Tyria finds her guard brutalized and refuses Annabeth's request to be left behind as useless. Calling Annabeth her friend rather than merely her servant, Tyria promises to take her home; Kai's healing and the group's victory let her keep that promise and frustrate Thorax's attempt to turn their bond into a fatal trap. (Chapters 54–57)
The reunion changes Tyria's adventure from an escape into an obligation she must answer for. She apologizes to Annabeth for running away and remains with the group until they can travel safely toward Brightfield. Although still exuberant, she now watches Kai's attempt at the first hero's tomb with genuine concern rather than treating it only as entertainment. When he emerges with the divine sword, her excitement returns because she understands its public meaning immediately: the man who protected her has become the new Hero of Gracia, even if Kai himself resists the office. (Chapters 57–59)
Separation, wartime trust, and royal reconnection
Tyria urges Kai to travel to the Church of Gracia for ordination, valuing the honor, security, and social purpose he dismisses. His refusal reveals that she still associates the Hero with an institution he does not trust, but she accepts his plan to delay and parts from Kai and Gwen at Brightfield without trying to impose royal authority again. She leaves with Annabeth as their friend, and the adventurers promise to visit the capital, preserving the connection beyond the emergency that first joined them. (Chapters 60–61)
During ShadowEdge's attack, Tyria begs her father to wait for Kai rather than lead the defense immediately. Her appeal shows lasting faith in the rescuer she knows can change an impossible battle, but the king refuses to watch his people die while waiting and sends her to safety with Annabeth. Tyria does not command the crisis or fight the Demon King; her role is the politically vulnerable daughter whose confidence in Kai clashes with her father's immediate responsibility to the kingdom. (Chapter 177)
Tyria later meets Kai again after sneaking out of the castle under Annabeth's supervision. She openly misses their journey, asks after Gwen, and shares an ordinary meal before inviting Kai to meet her parents. At court she overcomes guards' orders by announcing that she has brought both her rescuer and the Hero, then proposes that Kai can help resolve the threat from Thorax. The choice converts a private rescue debt into a royal alliance: Tyria personally connects Kai to the family and conspiracy that her first escape exposed, while remaining adventurous enough that Annabeth still has to contain her impulses. (Chapters 201–203)
Appearance and personality
Tyria is a brown-skinned elf of mixed parentage: her father shares her complexion, while her mother is a pale elf with golden eyes and her father has silver eyes. The narrative notes that Tyria's eyes reveal that mixed lineage but does not explicitly assign their exact color. She is fifty-two, an age treated as roughly comparable to Kai and Gwen's youth because elves mature differently from humans. Her first clothing is an expensive dress with jewelry that would expose her identity, so she removes the jewelry and wears a cloak while traveling incognito. Her hair is long enough to fall and be brushed from her shoulders, but its color is not stated. (Chapters 49–51, 201–202)
She is excitable, affectionate, sheltered, and recklessly curious. Tyria runs from protection because she wants freedom, becomes absorbed by heroic history, and repeatedly reacts to new travel or magic with open delight. Those qualities create danger, but she is not indifferent to its cost: she feels ashamed when Gwen explains common hardship, accepts Kai's rules, insists on rescuing Annabeth, and apologizes for causing the crisis. Her later return to court preserves both sides of her character—she still sneaks out, yet uses her position and friendships to seek help for her family rather than merely to entertain herself. (Chapters 50–61, 201–203)
Powers and abilities
Tyria is established as a Tier-3 mage trained first by her mother and then at the Royal Academy for Magic and Martial Arts. The supplied chapters do not confirm a later mana tier, adventurer rank, divine state, or permanent structural awakening, so her demonstrated growth is experiential rather than a formal power progression. (Chapters 51–52)
Water magic
Tyria names Water Bullet, Water Shield, and Water Spout among her spells and channels combat magic through a wand. During the kobold request, she prepares her casting before the monsters emerge and lands water attacks precisely on their heads, killing them instantly. She can also conjure water for ordinary cleaning after vomiting. Her academy technique is therefore reliable in controlled casting, but the corpus does not specify range, mana cost, casting time, or whether her shield can withstand opponents above Tier 3. (Chapters 52–53)
Healing magic and combat limitations
Tyria says she can heal injuries ranging from minor to major wounds, but cannot repair fatal damage, reattach limbs, or regrow missing body parts. That makes her useful support within mortal limits rather than a universal safeguard. Her first live monster battle also demonstrates a non-magical weakness: accuracy does not equal battlefield awareness. Tyria has difficulty moving under pressure, becomes mentally overwhelmed by gore, and is too sick to notice an incoming arrow, requiring Kai's intervention. Nothing in her later appearances confirms that she has overcome those limitations through further field experience. (Chapters 52–53)
Relationships
- Kai LuForia: Kai saves Tyria, reluctantly accepts her as a dependent, and helps recover Annabeth. Tyria admires his strength and Hero status, trusts him during the Demon King crisis, and later brings him to her parents as both friend and potential ally against Thorax. (Chapters 49–61, 177, 201–203)
- Gwen: Gwen first insists that Tyria should be helped and becomes her model for what an adventurer's life actually requires. Tyria accepts Gwen's criticism of her privilege, fights beside her, and eagerly asks to see her again when reuniting with Kai. (Chapters 49–61, 201)
- Annabeth: Annabeth is Tyria's personal guard and close friend. Tyria's escape leads to Annabeth's capture, but Tyria takes responsibility, prioritizes her rescue, refuses to abandon her after torture, and later remains under her watch even while continuing to sneak outside the castle. (Chapters 50, 53–61, 177, 201–203)
- Thorax: Tyria's uncle makes her death the trigger for a fabricated war that would let him seize the throne and her mother. His conspiracy turns her impulsive excursion into a struggle for survival and remains unresolved when Tyria asks Kai to help her father deal with him. (Chapters 49–55, 202)
Items
Tyria carries an unnamed wand as the focus for her water magic during the kobold battle and the subsequent confrontation with assassins. The corpus provides no origin, special property, or later fate for it, and does not establish a separately named personal artifact. (Chapters 52–53)
