Frost Drake Heart

The Frost Drake Heart is the core Kai harvests from a slain frost drake and gives to Gwen. Rather than functioning as reusable equipment, it is a one-use biological catalyst. Its consumption permanently awakens the drake component of Gwen’s blocked dragonborn inheritance and provides the first proof of how her competing bloodlines can be restored. (Chapters 65–67)

History

Slaying the frost drake

During the mountain expedition, Kai’s party encounters and kills a frost drake. The creature’s death briefly changes Gwen’s eyes and mana, prompting Kai to ask about her ancestry. Gwen explains that drakes, wyverns, and dragons possess hearts or cores that can transform ordinary survivors into dragonborn, while she was born with all three lineages but never awakened any of them. Kai retains the dead drake and later removes its heart from his inventory. (Chapters 65–66)

Diagnosis and consumption

Kai infers from Gwen’s status and family history that her unusually pure bloodlines are fighting instead of harmonizing. Gwen initially expects a drake heart to behave like ordinary meat because she is already dragonborn, but accepts it at his urging and devours the whole organ. The heart is thereby consumed completely: it is not stored, transferred again, or available as a future crafting component. (Chapter 67)

Permanent awakening

Immediately after eating it, Gwen enters a trance, her eyes glow blue, red scales and talons appear on her limbs, and her mana doubles into Tier 3. She experiences the strength and bodily completeness she had lacked since childhood. The result confirms Kai’s theory for the drake line and sends the party searching for wyvern and dragon cores to restore her remaining inheritances. Those later cores are separate items and do not recreate the consumed Frost Drake Heart. (Chapters 67–68)

Abilities and properties

Dragon hearts can trigger dragonlike transformation in non-dragonborn people, though survival is described as exceptionally rare. For Gwen, this specific frost drake heart restores power “from the source,” stabilizing and awakening her drake blood rather than granting an unrelated ice spell. The permanent effects include partial dragonification, stronger limbs, scales, talons, enhanced senses, increased physical power, and doubled mana. It activates only one of her three lineages; wyvern and dragon development still require their corresponding cores. (Chapters 66–68)

Ownership and custody
