Evalynn Fang

Evalynn Fang is the mother of Michael Fang, Daniel Fang, and Hesta Fang. A formidable Curse User who prioritizes Hesta's survival, she returns carrying Daniel's Living Soul but repeatedly fails to understand how abandoning her sons damaged her claim to their trust.

Biography

Savannah Alliances and Regional War

Evalynn returns after roughly a decade away and initially does not recognize Michael, restraining him and treating him as a threat to Daniel's soul. When his identity becomes clear, Michael rejects her claim to motherhood and forces her to confront the neglect created when she and Peter followed Hesta. Evalynn preserves Daniel in the Keychain Casket and first hopes to reincarnate him, but eventually cooperates with Michael's exorcism: her seals and Cursed Chain Circle restrain Daniel's Curse long enough for Michael to extract it safely. Even after that joint success, she avoids Michael rather than repairing the relationship directly, although she later fights on the alliance's side against the human attackers. The Unknown Domain and the New Era

Decades later, Evalynn still assumes that Michael will return because he was a “good child,” and Hesta has to explain that forgiveness requires action rather than expectation. Conversations about Evalynn's father Paul and her husband Peter reveal the family pressure behind her choices but do not excuse them: Peter had killed Paul at Paul's own intended culmination, then broken under that burden, while Evalynn remained emotionally attached to both Hesta and her separated husband. She supports the Human Protection Service and asks Hesta for more time before leaving her alone, but the corpus ends without a reconciliation with Michael. (Chapters 1095–1097)

Appearance and personality

Evalynn appears unusually youthful, seemingly in her late twenties, with fairly pale skin, long wavy hair, and dark, almost black eyes. Her presence is immense and eerie. She is fiercely protective of Hesta and Daniel's soul, but that focus becomes tunnel vision: she can act decisively in a curse crisis yet struggles to accept responsibility for emotional abandonment, often retreating into certainty or avoidance when confronted. Curse arts and exorcism

Evalynn is a Peak Tier 6 Curse User and an experienced exorcist. She can project invisible force to immobilize several powerful targets, form defensive membranes of liquefied origin energy, and deploy dark Cursed Seals. For Daniel's exorcism she prepares black liquid into a Cursed Chain Circle, then uses the resulting chains and seals to restrain the Curse while Michael performs the extraction. The procedure requires cooperation and preparation; it is not shown as a unilateral cure. (Chapters 543–545, 689–694, and 783)

Her curse-fighting experience once made her a feared combatant, but Eren Long observes that she lost much of her former spark after Paul's death. The exact form of Evalynn's own Curse is deliberately left unrevealed in her exchanges with Michael, so its species and independent powers remain unknown. (Chapters 768, 803, and 820)

Relationships

• Michael Fang: Her younger son rejects her maternal authority after years of neglect. They cooperate to save Daniel, but the corpus ends without the apology or sustained repair Michael would require.
• Daniel Fang: Evalynn carries and protects Daniel's Living Soul, initially seeking reincarnation before accepting an exorcism that separates him from his Curse.
• Hesta Fang: Evalynn's protection of Hesta motivates the family's departure, but Hesta later condemns the harm done to her brothers and presses Evalynn toward accountability.
• Peter Fang: Her husband and the children's father. Their separation becomes a slow period of reflection, though Evalynn still hopes to rejoin him.
• Eren Long: A fellow Curse User whose old connection with Evalynn is uneasy; he helps bring Michael to the Nest and understands her diminished combat drive.
