Keychain Casket

The Keychain Casket is a miniature coffin-shaped vessel given to Michael after the Lord Rift. Its concealed purpose is to preserve Daniel Fang's Living Soul after Masked Saber's death, making the apparently mocking trinket the essential bridge between Daniel's second death and his eventual resurrection.

History

The Lord Rift reward

Michael receives the casket among the Will's rewards after Masked Saber dies protecting him. Intricate, overlapping enchantments cover its surface, but it is not classified as an Artifact and cannot be placed in either a War Rune's storage or a spatial pouch. Unaware of the soul inside, Michael fastens it to his belt as a reminder of his inability to save his brother. Its apparently calming presence makes the symbol of his grief easier to bear, while Tiara notices that it feels unusual despite emitting no obvious energy. (Chapters 281–283)

Discovery of Daniel's Living Soul

Evalynn Fang later reveals that Daniel's Living Soul is stored in the casket and asks Michael to surrender it for reincarnation. Michael refuses because reincarnation would erase Daniel's memories. With tenfold-enhanced True Extraction, he verifies a mass of energy, lifeforce, and sentience that feels like Daniel, then begins researching a way to remove the Fang curse without damaging the soul. The casket becomes both a protective vessel and a deadline: the soul and its curse continue changing, although preservation lasts longer inside the Origin Expanse because of its time dilation. (Chapters 545–567, 687)

Michael discovers that Insert can pass Soul Tears and SoulStar Fragments through the vessel to reinforce the Living Soul. After refining his plan, he and Evalynn stabilize Daniel and separate the weakened curse from his spark of life. The ritual spreads cracks through the casket, and the power Michael channels into it finally makes it burst. With no intact vessel to return to, Michael uses True Extraction and Perfect Insertion to move Daniel's complete Living Soul into Soul Grimoire, leaving only fragments of the casket behind. Later revelation of its purpose

Much later, the Will admits that it created the Lord Rift in part to guide Michael and intervened when Masked Saber died. The casket was made to contain Daniel, although the Will's stated motive was also to keep Michael's grief from replacing his gentle nature with uncontrolled fury. By that revelation the object itself has long been destroyed; its work survives through Daniel, whose soul was preserved long enough to be cleansed, transferred, and eventually restored to a body. Abilities and properties

• The casket contains a Living Soul together with its remaining lifeforce and sentience, concealing that contents so thoroughly that Michael initially cannot detect Daniel even after experimenting with the object. (Chapters 281, 545–547)
• Its overlapping enchantments are unusually complex, and it cannot be stored in ordinary spatial storage. The corpus does not name the enchantments or identify the material from which the casket is made. (Chapter 281)
• It exerts a soothing or calming influence on Michael and later hums when his tear and Daniel's lifeforce resonate. Early scenes present Michael's interpretation as a question rather than a formally named enchantment. (Chapters 281, 547–548)
• Insert can carry Soul Tears and SoulStar Fragments through the vessel to Daniel's Living Soul, allowing Michael to stabilize and strengthen the soul without first removing it. (Chapters 567 and 691)
• The casket preserves rather than permanently cures its resident. Daniel's curse continues to recover and drain his spark of life, and the vessel eventually cracks under the exorcism and transfer process. (Chapters 566–567 and 691–694)
