Cleave Fenrir

Cleave Fenrir, also recorded as Cleave Fang, is the first known ancestor of the Fang family and the historical terror called the Calamity. More than five centuries after his first entry into the Origin Expanse, he is resurrected as Michael Fang's first Heroic Summon. Michael kills him before he can recover his former power, but Cleave's Soultrait, combat memories, and Wicked Spear Arts become a lasting part of his descendant's development.

Cleave is a human ancestor and must not be confused with Fenrir, the Wolf Beast God later bound to Michael as a Curse. The shared name and the Fenrir bloodline connect their terminology, but the local corpus treats them as distinct beings: Cleave dies in Chapter 18, whereas the Beast God speaks and acts through Michael hundreds of chapters later.

Biography

War Rune Awakening and the First Territory

Five hundred and ten years before the main story, Cleave reaches his eighteenth birthday in a basement where his drunken father is beating him to death after selling his body to settle a gambling debt. Cleave has endured earlier violence against himself, his mother, and his sister, but cannot overpower his enormous father. As his hope collapses into hatred and a desire for strength, a War Rune appears and a white Gate pulls him into the Origin Expanse. The narration identifies this betrayal as the catalyst for the monster he later becomes, without presenting it as absolution for his crimes. (Chapter 17)

When Michael resurrects Cleave, the returned ancestor presents himself politely, accepts the Link of Loyalty, and obeys orders to hunt along the territory's protection barrier. His discipline, reflexes, and spear experience let him kill monsters a Tier above his reset body and quickly raise his refinement. Beneath that service, he watches Michael closely, ignores Tiara, and quietly uses the dark-purple Wicked Spear Arts. Because the family chronicle says that technique exposes and intensifies its wielder's true feelings, Michael concludes that Cleave remembers enough of the Calamity to become an existential threat once he regains strength. Michael attacks while Cleave is exhausted, unarmed, and eating. Cleave tries to counter with Wicked Spear energy wrapped around wooden sticks, but Tigerfang pierces his throat before he can recover his silver spear. His final confusion suggests that he did not expect his seemingly harmless descendant to strike first; the corpus never gives Cleave a later explanation or confession. Extraction then reduces his body to a Tracker Summoning Scroll, SoulStar Fragments, weakened Eagle Eyes, and a Memory Orb. Michael eventually judges the lethal summoning as useful only because he transformed Cleave into a catalyst for his own growth. Cleave's resurrection changes how Michael approaches later summoning. Before opening Mythic Summoning Scrolls, Michael remembers that the Origin Expanse has already returned both his first ancestor and his dead brother to him. Savannah Alliances and Regional War

The summoning of Tatjana Moiaralin reopens the question raised by Cleave: whether a descendant should die for an infamous family's crimes. Tatjana comes from a beast-taming house whose later members betrayed the Forest Elves, and some elves consider killing her before history can repeat. Cleave's case supplies the obvious precedent because Michael killed his own returned ancestor almost immediately. The comparison nevertheless turns on present danger, not ancestry alone: Tatjana is judged untarnished, while Cleave personally concealed the Wicked Spear Arts and was already viewed as a direct threat. That distinction limits the meaning of Cleave's fate. His assassination does not become a policy that every resurrected criminal lineage must be purged, nor does the suffering behind his youth excuse the Calamity's later acts. Instead, the territory treats him as an exceptional case in which historical knowledge, a matching family mark, the inherited account, concealed technique use, and overwhelming growth potential converged. Tatjana is allowed to awaken the Eyes of Evolution and serve the territory, showing that Cleave's legacy teaches Michael's people to assess what a returned ancestor actually chooses and demonstrates. Arx, the Sacred Desert, and Bloodline Revelations

Michael's later Curses force him to reconsider the mechanics of Cleave's threat. He distinguishes Cleave's constrained Link of Loyalty from the World Serpent's presence inside his body, yet believes mastery of the Wicked Spear Arts would eventually have let Cleave break that Link. Investigations into the Fang Curse also show that the family mystery predates Cleave. Daniel proposes that Cleave may have had a Hyuman mother and an abusive stepfather, but this remains an explicit theory: the inherited book omits his mother, calls the violent man his father, and supplies no proof of Cleave's exact parentage. This same inquiry must not merge Cleave with the canine Curse. Daniel explicitly says his own Curse was not Fenrir, and much later evidence identifies Michael's wolf as the separate Beast God Fenrir. Cleave's real surviving presence is his extracted memory. When Michael faces the Undead Pharaoh and refuses to surrender his body to a Curse, he deliberately returns to the first Memory Orb, follows a vision of Cleave's movements, and receives the ancestor's Wicked Spear mastery. Appearance and personality

In his resurrected form, Cleave has long black hair tied into a man bun, dark eyes that continually analyze his surroundings, and a well-trained, athletic physique that is explicitly not bulky in Michael's later recollection. He wears black leather armor and carries a silver spear. A distinct mark behind his right ear matches the inherited Fang-family mark and helps Michael confirm his identity. The corpus gives no exact height or detailed facial description beyond these traits. (Chapters 10, 13–14)

Cleave initially appears disciplined, quiet, and formally respectful, but the politeness conceals emotional distance and predatory attention. He works relentlessly and shows exceptional composure in combat, yet ignores Tiara, sizes up Michael, and dismisses his young Lord as harmless. The flashback to his eighteenth birthday shows how fear, betrayal, helplessness, and resentment formed around his desire for strength. The family history then attributes massacres, slave trading, betrayal of allies, and widespread terror to the adult Calamity; because most of that life is preserved through an inherited account rather than dramatized directly, his exact path from victim to perpetrator remains incomplete. Soultrait, spear arts, and extracted legacy

Cleave's known power combines a high-grade ocular Soultrait, extensive spear and bow training, and the emotion-driven Wicked Spear Arts. His original War Rune Tier at the height of the Calamity's career is never stated. Resurrection resets him to Tierless, but his seven-star Summon potential and retained experience let him fight Low Tier 1 monsters through the protection barrier and advance rapidly before Michael kills him.

Wicked Spear Arts

The Wicked Spear Arts circulates Soul Energy and wraps the wielder and weapon in a dark-purple hue. Its foundation is the user's true feelings and intrusive thoughts: stronger and less restrained emotions increase its potency, while deeper mastery makes those emotions harder to ignore or conceal. Cleave uses it on his silver spear to kill a Gem Jaguar and can channel it through wooden sticks when Michael ambushes him. Michael interprets that use as proof that the returned ancestor retained the Calamity's dangerous foundation, though Cleave himself never explains how much of his former memory was conscious. The extracted Memory Orb preserves Cleave's mastery beyond his death. When Michael later follows Cleave's movements, the technique turns pain, anger, greed, and the desire to kill into greater force, cuts through an Undead Pharaoh's corrupted domain, and amplifies the Aethyr Spear enough to damage its core. This later use also demonstrates the cost: Michael's emotions remain abnormally intense afterward, and he worries about lasting personality changes. Divine Eyes and Eagle Eyes

Divine Eyes was Cleave's eight-star Soultrait while he lived as a Lord, but the corpus does not describe its original full set of functions. Once absorbed, those memories operate largely through Michael's subconscious, supplying practical movement and weapon instincts without a matching theoretical education. They are useful enough that Michael considers decades of Cleave's memories more desirable than the detailed memories of a cruel Kitsun Lord. The fragments begin forming another star around Extraction, Eagle Eyes integrates into Michael, the Memory Orb transfers snippets of Cleave's lived experience at physical cost, and the scroll later summons Blaire Tracer. Cleave does not intentionally bestow these rewards, and the text does not establish that he selected their form; they are consequences of Michael using Extraction on his remains. Michael Fang is Cleave's descendant, summoning Lord, killer, and eventual inheritor. Their direct relationship lasts only days, but its consequences persist for years. Michael learns his preferred weapons and early combat instincts from Cleave, inherits Eagle Eyes and the Wicked Spear Arts, fears further family summons, and repeatedly uses the ancestor as the measure of a powerful subordinate who could become lethal once a weak Link of Loyalty breaks. Cleave's father and early family

Cleave's unnamed father is an abusive gambler who beats both Cleave and other family members, sells his son's body to a creditor, and tries to kill him on his eighteenth birthday. Cleave's thoughts show that he had wanted enough strength to protect his mother and sister, but the assault turns that wish toward hatred and revenge. Later speculation questions whether this man was his biological father because Cleave's mother is absent from the inherited record; the theory that a Hyuman was his true parent is never confirmed. Tiara

Tiara is Cleave's fellow subject in Michael's first territory. She tries to include him in meals and warns him not to exhaust himself, but he repeatedly ignores her and develops no visible trust with her. After Michael kills him, Tiara is initially terrified of her Lord, then checks the matching family mark, listens to the Calamity's history, and agrees that Cleave had become too dangerous to leave alive. She cleans the body and safeguards Michael while Extraction turns Cleave into a posthumous source of power. (Chapters 10, 13, 15–20)

Silver spear and black leather armor

Cleave emerges from the Summoning Gate equipped with a silver spear and black leather armor. The spear is his principal weapon and channels the Wicked Spear Arts' dark-purple energy during his hunt, but he sets it aside to eat shortly before Michael's ambush. Tiara later retrieves it from beside his body. Neither item receives a proper name, grade, detailed property set, or confirmed later owner in the supplied corpus, so they cannot be identified with another generated weapon page. Tattered Book

Tigerfang belongs to Michael, not Cleave. Tigerfang kills Cleave and then returns to Michael's War Rune, making it central to the ancestor's fate without ever entering Cleave's possession. (Chapters 16, 18)
