Vexarion

Vexarion Aurendor is the former Sovereign of the High-Level World Aurendor and a powerful Eternal of the Light faction. Styling himself the Herald of Justice, he uses the language of purification and righteousness to justify conquest, while privately treating lives and principles as expendable whenever they obstruct his ambition. His destruction of Nocthys makes him the focus of Sharnoth's lifelong revenge and ultimately leaves him physically alive but without a surviving identity.

Biography

The fall of Nocthys

Vexarion's first appearance occurs in Sharnoth's memory of Nocthys's destruction. Three days after her father Vorran was killed in a coordinated Eternal ambush, Vexarion led Aurendor and its faction into the destabilized world. The invading force benefited from betrayal among Nocthys's allies, overwhelmed its guards, broke its rituals, and captured eleven-year-old Sharnoth and her mother, Isaveth. Rather than execute them, Vexarion classified beings of darkness as corrupt creatures requiring “purification” and intended to parade the captive queen and princess before their defeated people. When Isaveth attempted to take her own life, he made Sharnoth suffer through the prison collar to force her mother to stop. (Chapters 2047–2049)

Vexarion's role in the family's ruin began even earlier than the invasion. Much later, Sharnoth confronted him with Kaelith's memories of the eight-Eternal ambush on Vorran: Kaelith had used Absolute Isolation to prevent escape while Vexarion and their allies surrounded and killed him. Vexarion first pretended not to remember, then recognized Sharnoth's deliberate recreation of the attack. His conquest therefore did more than secure an old enemy's world. It gave Sharnoth a hundred-thousand-year purpose centered on making him experience the helplessness he had imposed on her family. (Chapters 2187 and 2190)

A threatened reputation and Nux's bargain

When the Leander Family began destroying Aurendor's subordinate worlds, Khaemorr publicly proposed a death duel between Sharnoth and Vexarion. Refusal would expose Aurendor as unable to protect its faction, undermine a reputation built over millions of years, and risk its place under the Supreme World of Light. Vexarion usually avoided direct battles and preferred to use his faction's collective strength, but he was also unwilling to report Sharnoth's Chaos power immediately: he wanted to capture her himself, deliver her to the Supreme Worlds, and possibly become Light's direct subordinate. He considered subordinate casualties an acceptable price for that reward. (Chapters 2067–2069)

Nux Leander contacted Vexarion while pretending to have turned against Sharnoth. Vexarion did not accept the offer blindly: he questioned how Nux could enter a duel limited to two participants and demanded proof that the mercenary was not still aligned with Khaemorr. Nux demonstrated his ability to evade a World's Will by entering Aurendor and cutting off Vexarion's arm, then proposed striking Sharnoth while their Domains clashed. Pressured by Khaemorr's challenge and tempted by the promised reward, Vexarion accepted. He surrendered seven of his least-valued High-Level Relics immediately and agreed to provide three more after victory, unknowingly paying the conspirator who intended to deliver him to Sharnoth. (Chapters 2070–2076)

The Light faction's bait

The wider conflict stripped Vexarion of even the control he thought he had purchased. Auren, the Strongest Child of Light, occupied Vexarion's throne and ordered him to proceed with the duel because the Supreme World wanted to use him as bait for the Anomaly. Vexarion understood that Nux might kill him before help arrived and deeply resented being treated as disposable, but the difference between the two Eternals was too large for resistance. He bowed, accepted a tracking Mark of Light, and remained loyal to the Light faction despite privately imagining revenge against Auren. (Chapter 2186)

Sharnoth entered the hall as soon as Auren departed. Four controlled Eternals isolated it in a reconstruction of Vorran's ambush, but Vexarion initially trusted the Mark of Light to bring Auren back. That confidence ended when Nux arrived dragging the defeated Light Born. Vexarion drew on Aurendor's Will and prepared his relics and abilities, not to win against the surrounding Eternals but to escape; Nux rendered him unconscious before any sequence could be used, moved him into his own universe, and ordered Aurendor destroyed. Vexarion's ambition to gain the Supreme World's favor had thus made him valuable chiefly as bait to both sides. (Chapters 2187–2189)

Captivity, false escapes, and the loss of self

Inside Nux's universe, Sharnoth repeatedly fought, killed, and restored Vexarion. His light, relics, techniques, and Absolute Domain all failed against her Chaos, which corrupted his energy and turned every recovery into the start of another round. After scores of deaths, the once-commanding Sovereign begged for a permanent end. Nux instead allowed him to flee through unfamiliar young worlds, but the escape was staged: because Vexarion had already been devoured into Nux's universe, Nux remained his anchor and could locate or summon him. Sharnoth eventually drew him back with a projection of Seraphielle, transforming his renewed hope into another recapture. (Chapters 2190–2195 and 2237–2239)

Ythric, once Vexarion's subordinate and now a controlled puppet, then appeared to offer a map and a path out. Trauma did not entirely remove Vexarion's caution—he questioned how Ythric knew the marked location was an exit—but desperation led him to follow the plan. The destination returned him to Sharnoth, and Nux revealed that both this rescue and the earlier escape had been constructed to give him hope before taking it away. Further cycles using Sharnoth, Ythric, and Auren finally produced a permanent result: Vexarion's body remained warm, breathing, and energized, but Nux found no memories, identity, thoughts, or emotions to restore. The corpus does not show Nux carrying out his stated possibility of remaking the empty body as a different member of his army; Vexarion's latest established state is therefore a living vessel whose original self is gone. (Chapters 2240–2243)

Appearance and personality

Vexarion is a tall being with obsidian skin threaded by glowing golden veins, as though molten stone lies beneath the surface. His eyes are hollow and glass-like, refracting faint light, while a thin unbroken obsidian halo floats behind his head. He wears mirror-polished silver armor under ivory-and-gold robes. Other members of his kind share similar features but lack his halo, which the narration suggests is a sign of leadership or absoluteness; no separate power is formally assigned to that mark. Black wings appear when he fights. (Chapters 2067 and 2190)

His public manner is controlled, gentle, and ceremonially graceful, but it is largely a performance. In private, interruption enrages him, incomplete reports draw threats of a “purge,” and he regards subordinate lives as worth less than his chance to gain Supreme World favor. He is arrogant and ruthless toward weaker opponents, yet also wary enough to avoid uncertain direct fights and perceptive enough to challenge gaps in Nux's proposed deal. Under an overwhelming power difference he becomes outwardly obedient while retaining private hatred; prolonged torture eventually reduces even that resistance to fear and then extinguishes his sense of self altogether. (Chapters 2067–2076, 2186, 2192–2194, and 2243)

Abilities and cultivation

Eternal cultivation and Absolute Domain

Vexarion is an Eternal and is described as stronger than ordinary members of that stage. He possesses an Absolute Law, but the corpus does not name its concept, explain its acquisition, or supply a distinct activation phrase. Its demonstrated expression is an Absolute Domain in which he becomes the controlling authority: after Nux severed his left arm, Vexarion expanded the Domain, restricted movement within it, commanded the arm back into position, and restored himself to full fighting condition. The technique activates through deliberate Domain expansion and can control the immediate environment, but its range, duration, and energy cost are not stated. (Chapter 2074)

As Aurendor's progenitor, Vexarion can request the World's Will to reinforce him. He attempted to draw its complete assistance when surrounded, with the narration stating that the increase would make even Auren cautious, but Nux knocked him unconscious before the enhancement could be tested. This authority is tied to Aurendor rather than demonstrated as portable personal power, and Aurendor's Will could not detect Nux's intrusion. Inside Nux's universe, Vexarion's Domain was overpowered by Sharnoth's own and could not provide a route of escape. (Chapters 2074, 2188, and 2192)

Light, martial combat, and recovery

Vexarion channels golden Light through his body, armor, halo, wings, and weapons. Demonstrated applications include a focused beam, explosive bursts of radiance, a storm of radiant blades released from the halo, flight, sword combat, and large attacks stated capable of destroying armies. He can combine speed and direct strikes with ranged Light, and he once kept fighting Sharnoth for hours after filling their battlefield with golden radiance. The source gives none of these attacks a stable technique name or specific ritual; they are activated by releasing or directing his energy. (Chapters 2189–2192)

Golden energy automatically heals severe bodily damage, including a broken neck, and his Domain can reattach a severed limb. Chaos is a direct counter: Sharnoth's energy enters his body, corrupts his Light, impairs movement, slows healing, and can convert or swallow radiant attacks. Her formless spread also exceeded the range of his area attacks, while her Domain collapsed his own. The complete restorations after Vexarion's deaths are not established as an innate ability; shadows within Nux's controlled universe rebuilt him under Sharnoth's custody, with the operating mechanism left unexplained. Physical restoration ultimately could not recover a self that had permanently collapsed, leaving Vexarion's surviving cultivation without personal agency at his latest appearance. (Chapters 2190–2192, 2241, and 2243)

Relationships

  • Sharnoth: Vexarion helped ambush her father, conquered Nocthys, and used Sharnoth and her mother as subjects of public “purification.” She makes revenge against him a central purpose, eventually capturing him and subjecting him to repeated deaths and false escapes until his original self disappears. (Chapters 2047–2049, 2187–2195, and 2237–2243)
  • Nux Leander: Nux exploits Vexarion's fear of political disgrace and desire for Light's favor, taking seven relics in exchange for false assistance. He later captures Vexarion, makes escape from his universe impossible, and constructs cycles of hope and recapture for Sharnoth's revenge. (Chapters 2070–2076, 2187–2195, and 2237–2243)
  • Auren: Auren treats Vexarion as expendable bait for the Anomaly. Vexarion submits because he cannot bridge their immense power difference, relies on Auren's tracking mark for rescue, and later has that belief used against him through Auren's controlled body. (Chapters 2186–2189 and 2242–2243)
  • Seraphielle: Vexarion reveres the Infinity of Light as his supreme authority and hopes that delivering Sharnoth will gain her favor. A projection of Seraphielle later becomes the lure that ends his first staged escape. (Chapters 2067–2069 and 2237–2239)
  • Ythric: Ythric serves as Vexarion's fearful subordinate in Aurendor. After Nux turns him into a puppet, his apparent loyalty is used to sell Vexarion a second false escape. (Chapters 2067–2076 and 2240–2242)
  • Isaveth: Vexarion captures the Queen of Nightfall beside her daughter and prevents her suicide by making Sharnoth suffer whenever Isaveth resists. Their direct contact is recorded only through Sharnoth's account of captivity. (Chapters 2047–2049)

Items

  • High-Level Relics: Vexarion accumulated a large collection over his lifetime. He transferred the seven he valued least to Nux as the advance payment for supposed aid against Sharnoth and promised three more after the duel. Later recollection says every relic he summoned against Sharnoth shattered, but the corpus does not identify individual relics or establish whether those were all that remained in his custody. (Chapters 2076 and 2192)
  • Unnamed sword and call artifacts: Vexarion fights with an unnamed sword and later uses it to kill himself during a staged escape; shadows then reconstruct his body. He also carries several communication artifacts, including one supplied for emergencies by Auren, but none function inside Nux's universe. Their makers, formal properties, and final custody are not supplied. (Chapters 2189, 2237–2238, and 2241)
  • Mark of Light: Auren places this tracking mark on Vexarion's shoulder to monitor his movement and condition. It is an imposed magical mark rather than a carried artifact or an innate Vexarion ability, and it does not save him once Nux defeats Auren and moves Vexarion outside the main universe. (Chapters 2186–2188)
