Ythric
Ythric is Vexarion's closest aide in Aurendor. He initially manages intelligence and communications during the conflict over Sharnoth, but is later captured and remade into one of Nux's obedient puppets, severing the loyalty on which Vexarion relied.
Biography
Serving an increasingly unstable master
Ythric reports on missing Transcendents while carefully navigating Vexarion's threats of purification for failure. He suspects that the disappearances connect to the Leander family and correctly treats Khaemorr's sudden public peace offer as a trap, arguing that the Darkness faction has no reason to value reduced destruction. His caution is useful, but it cannot stabilize a leader whose fear and pride increasingly govern policy. (Chapters 2067–2071)
Ythric provides the communication channel through which Nux contacts Aurendor. He participates in the attempted negotiation and initially insists that the Leander family needs a deal, only to freeze when Nux explains how easily Vexarion can be isolated from allies and trade. The exchange exposes how little leverage Aurendor actually retains and begins breaking the confidence of Vexarion's own subordinates. (Chapters 2070–2072)
Ythric is later shown under the control of Nux and Sharnoth, with deadened eyes and no sign of his prior allegiance. Sharnoth orders him to move his former master, and he obeys without hesitation. A staged escape makes Vexarion believe that Ythric may secretly be helping him, but Nux reveals that the aide is a puppet who no longer recognizes or fears his former lord. (Chapters 2239–2242)
Appearance and personality
The corpus does not supply a detailed physical description beyond the later contrast between Ythric's formerly bright eyes and their dead appearance after subjugation. Before capture he is restrained, observant, and careful about speaking around Vexarion. His political reading is often sound, but fear forces him to package conclusions in ways his master will tolerate. (Chapters 2067–2072 and 2239)
Abilities and cultivation
Ythric's formal cultivation stage and personal combat techniques are not stated in the supplied corpus. He operates official statements and a call artifact, reads factional motives, and functions as a senior administrator rather than a demonstrated fighter. After capture, Nux controls his actions and removes ordinary fear and loyalty; the exact mental-control mechanism, resistance conditions, and reversibility are not explained in Ythric's scenes. (Chapters 2069–2072 and 2239–2242)
Relationships
- Vexarion: Ythric is Vexarion's trusted aide but must work under constant threat. After his capture, that relationship is weaponized to give Vexarion false hope before the puppet's indifference is revealed. (Chapters 2067–2072 and 2239–2242)
- Nux: Nux first dismantles Ythric's negotiating assumptions, then turns him into a controlled agent used against Aurendor's ruler. (Chapters 2070–2072 and 2241–2242)
- Sharnoth: Sharnoth displays Ythric as a replacement “toy” and orders him to imprison Vexarion, emphasizing the reversal of Aurendor's earlier attempt to control her. (Chapters 2239–2240)
Items
Ythric manages an unnamed call artifact used to communicate with the Leander family. It is not one of the separately cataloged items. (Chapters 2070–2071)
