Lazarus

Lazarus Bloodheart is the son and heir of Orpheus and Ambrosia, and the fiercely affectionate elder brother of Melia. His suspicion of outsiders repeatedly gives way to the same governing loyalty: protecting his sister, his three wives, and the household he is expected to inherit.

Biography

An heir who could not stand outside Melia's choices

Lazarus first meets Nux while Melia is preparing to duel him over leadership of her new clan. Although his rank made him the settled heir rather than Melia's rival, he was immediately concerned about the stranger around his younger sister. His open affection—ruffling her hair, bargaining for a smile, and asking for a hug—contradicted the assumption that the siblings would fight for power. Melia later made the relationship explicit: Lazarus would willingly give his life for her, while Bloodheart custom rejected internal succession struggles. (Chapters 754–755)

That devotion also made him intrusive. Lazarus insisted on observing the supposedly private duel, placed hidden subordinates in the hall, and questioned Nux afterward because he doubted the result and feared for Melia. Once Nux exposed all three breaches, Ambrosia apologized for her son and Lazarus recognized that his distrust had dishonored the family. Nux acknowledged the protective motive, then used Lazarus's concession to negotiate three requests for Bloodheart aid which the House could refuse if a request endangered its own interests. Lazarus's acceptance of Nux grew through evidence rather than sudden trust. He celebrated Melia's first clan members with an elaborate banner, supplied her with a Mystic Parasite when she asked for help against a hidden enemy, and welcomed Nux as a brother-in-law once Melia chose him. At the wedding, his teasing collapsed into tears and a sincere blessing, showing that his earlier interference had never been a bid to keep Melia subordinate; he wanted reassurance that the family she chose would protect her. The limits of a celebrated prodigy

Lazarus was famed as the strongest incomplete Semi Saint Vampire of his generation and could defeat ordinary Saints, an achievement beyond what even Orpheus had managed at the same level. That reputation made him a standard against which other young cultivators were measured. It did not remove the cultivation bottleneck that threatened him and his wives: as incomplete cultivators who had not broken through, their remaining lifespans became a family crisis. By the time Nux returned, Lazarus's usual brightness had disappeared under the prospect of losing Luciana, Esme, and Claudia. Nux presented the rescue as a blood-based cultivation ability and divided a drop of his own blood among the four. Lazarus was a peak Semi Saint body cultivator when introduced and could defeat ordinary Saint Stage opponents through skill despite the phase difference. The origin of his training beyond Orpheus's tutelage is not shown, nor does the corpus name his Path or a personal combat style. As a Vampire he possessed regeneration and Blood Mist.
