Gu Won-ha

Gu Won-ha is a baron, second-stage Ascendant, and the second advisor of Ja Soo-jung. Her life is initially revealed when Kim Gong-ja occupies her body during a reconstruction of the Tower Master's past. She later appears in person as Miya, the administrator who manually delivers the Voice of the Tower and conducts meetings for the pillars.

Biography

The advisor who chose her duke

Gu Won-ha inherits a ruined family after successive generations are implicated in rebellion and her father is purged for associating with heretics. Deceived into raising a rebel leader's daughter, she is deposed, expelled from the Magic Tower despite being a fourth-circle wizard, and then held and abused by the Red Nails for more than nine years. Meeting Ja Soo-jung gives her a new position and object of loyalty. She becomes the viscount's advisor, records magical dossiers on the kingdom's nobles, and follows her through a council struggle over ducal authority. (Chapters 214–218)

Gu's records do not excuse the people in her own faction: Baek Seol-to killed a child, Sun Heuk-sin practiced cannibalism, and Dae Ha-ran massacred civilians. She searches for an innocent ruler who could refute Ja Soo-jung's conclusion that the kingdom's authorities are all compromised, finds none, and gives up trying to stop her master. The trauma reconstruction shows Gong-ja acting through Gu's body rather than Gu independently making new choices, so his later opposition to the Golden Rule is not attributed to her. Much later, Gu personally welcomes Gong-ja into the Tower's hidden situation room and confirms that she is the familiar Voice of the Tower. She manually announces rewards, skills, participants, and other system messages, using the administrators' control of time to handle each task in sequence. She convenes the pillars' no-confidence meeting, restrains the dead when they are summoned, and remains available to conclude the proceedings after Gong-ja defeats the Wand of Ages. Appearance and personality

Gu has shoulder-length hair so purely black that it reflects almost no light, sharply contrasting with skin described as white as blank paper. She commonly clasps her hands neatly, keeps an expressionless face, speaks with rigid politeness, and enforces courtly presentation even in the Tower's hidden control room. Her reserve conceals absolute devotion: work for her duke is sufficient reason to accept an otherwise unimaginable workload without complaint. (Chapters 216, 218, and 359)

Gu is a second-stage Ascendant and one of no more than twelve people in her world said to have reached that level. Ordinary Ascendants can survive one death by returning in a smaller form, with a second death becoming final; the corpus does not separately demonstrate how a second-stage practitioner modifies that rule.
