Baek Seol-to

Baek Seol-to is the young head of the Rabbit Marquis Family and an adopted sibling and follower of Ja Soo-jung. She enters the faction burdened by an inherited title, the murder of a commoner child, and a craving for approval. The supplied chapters present her history through the Tower Master's trauma; its later counterfactual scenes are possible lives, not evidence that a separate re-created Baek continues outside that reconstruction.

Biography

A guilty marquis in the Mirror Faction

Baek loses her parents young and is trained as heir by a strict grandfather who gives her little affection. At twelve, she whips a commoner child to death out of resentment at seeing another family happy. Her house's settlement cannot restore the victim or the bereaved grandparents, while Baek grows into a sixteen-year-old marquis marked by guilt, lethargy, low confidence, and periodic regression into childish behavior. Ja Soo-jung takes her in when rivals might otherwise have used her as a scapegoat, becoming the mother or elder sister whose praise Baek desperately seeks. (Chapters 214 and 217–219)

At the noble council, Baek remains close to Ja Soo-jung and joins a faction composed of compromised rulers who nevertheless defend their leader fiercely. Her family's control of the northern port and a large share of the Great River's streams gives the faction money and connections for Ja Soo-jung's political project. When testimony exposes the faction's victims, Baek does not defend her master's calculated acceptance of blame. The trauma later shows a counterfactual in which an earlier meeting with Ja Soo-jung leads her toward friendship rather than murder, explicitly contrasting a better possibility with the actual child-killing recorded in the reconstruction. Appearance and personality

Baek is sixteen during the council proceedings, with white hair likened to a snow rabbit. She is cautious, easily flustered, and openly delighted by Ja Soo-jung's affection, blushing when kissed on the forehead. Gu Won-ha's dossier describes a determined exterior over guilt, kindness, low self-esteem, and a strong unmet need for praise. These traits do not erase the cruelty of her childhood crime, but they explain why acceptance makes her intensely loyal. (Chapters 214–217)

Abilities and skills

Baek's demonstrated power is chiefly aristocratic and economic. As head of a great marquis family, she commands personal connections and capital, controls the northern port, and holds rights over a substantial part of the kingdom's river network. Numerous nobles depend on her, making assassination or political isolation difficult. The corpus identifies self-understanding and strong morality as strengths in Gu's dossier, but shows no named spell, Ascendant ability, or personal combat technique. (Chapters 214 and 220)

Her title also gives her legal protection that the commoner family she harmed did not possess. The settlement and her status limit conventional punishment without repairing the bereaved family's loss, which is why Ja Soo-jung uses Baek's case to argue for a law based on equal pain.
