Elder Huali

Elder Huali is a powerful Exploding Sun cultivator and Jack Rust’s personal master. Her decision to sponsor him brings his Earth faction under the Exploding Sun’s protection, and she continues to protect him even when doing so puts her own faction under pressure. (Chapters 92, 237–238, 265, 285)

Biography

Accepting a risky disciple

Huali first appears via Shol, who identifies her as a high C-Grade elder with authority to accept subordinate factions. She is initially willing to take Jack’s Bare Fist Brotherhood under the Exploding Sun’s protection only under conditions. When Jack meets her, she questions whether his potential justifies provoking the Animal Kingdom and warns that winning the Garden Assault alone does not guarantee a future breakthrough to C-Grade. Jack insists that his entire planet needs protection, not merely his faction, and argues that he can become a worthwhile investment. Huali weighs his recklessness against Shol’s confidence in him, then accepts Jack as an inner disciple and her personal student, enrolls Brock as an outer disciple, and agrees to support Earth. Jack’s later revelation that he conquered Trial Planet’s Final Ring changes her assessment: she has lost to the Final Guardian herself, and his victory confirms that his potential is exceptional. (Chapters 92, 237–238)

Huali’s patronage gives Jack a place in her estate and access to its cultivation resources, but she does not shield him from the work or consequences of his choices. The estate supplies a Dao Magnet for his cultivation, and she lets him learn through sparring and the faction’s library. She also continues to expect him to grow into the role she has invested in. Her support is both personal and political: Jack’s strength can benefit the Exploding Sun, but his conflict with the Animal Kingdom risks the faction’s standing. (Chapters 239–250)

Defending her judgment in the Grand Elder contest

Huali is one of the leading candidates for Grand Elder, while Elder Monsoon has the advantage of a stronger head disciple. When Monsoon publicly reveals her promise to help Jack’s planet, Huali confirms it rather than denying her commitment. She recognizes that accepting his challenge could humiliate her faction, but Jack proposes a six-month bet with Monsoon’s head disciple, Qian: if he can withstand three strikes, Qian must acknowledge Huali’s judgment; if he fails, Jack will leave the Exploding Sun and withdraw his demand for Earth’s protection. Huali considers the political cost and accepts. The decision ties her standing in the election to Jack’s survival and forces her to back him fully. (Chapters 255–258)

Huali then takes Jack to witness a real supernova. She arranges the one-way starship journey, protects him with a transparent orange shield, and limits the heat to what he can withstand while instructing him to observe the explosion’s Dao. She hopes this experience will let him comprehend the Supernova skill, a signature technique associated with the Exploding Sun’s ancestor Elandra. Jack perceives a Dao blueprint in the star’s collapse, but Huali does not claim that he has already acquired the skill. Her intervention turns the bet from a political gamble into a focused training effort, while preserving the limits of what she can teach directly. (Chapters 259–262)

Protecting Jack against faction pressure

As Jack trains and later leaves to fight the Animal Kingdom, Huali faces pressure from the Hand of God. Eva Solvig confronts her after Jack escapes Trial Planet and joins the Exploding Sun, demanding to inspect him for an Ancient inheritance. Huali says she does not know of such an inheritance and refuses to reveal that she knows where Jack has gone, even though the Hand threatens an investigation. When the Exploding Sun’s own leader orders her to help capture Jack, she agrees outwardly but decides not to betray her disciple or surrender his friends. Her actions balance the faction’s need to avoid a war with the Hand against her responsibility to the people she has taken under her protection. (Chapters 265, 285)

Huali later returns to Earth after the Exploding Sun is destroyed and helps Dorman contain Artus Emberheart’s attack near Jack’s family. She and Dorman avoid using their full power because the battle could devastate the continent and kill civilians. This is one of the clearest demonstrations of her judgment in a crisis: she is strong enough to challenge a peak C-Grade, but chooses to keep the fight contained. After the danger passes, she acknowledges that the faction fell under her watch and plans to find one of its surviving Ancestors and rebuild it. By Jack’s duel with Hero, she is Grand Elder of the reborn Exploding Sun and organizes a viewing party for its disciples. (Chapters 426, 436, 463, 552)

Appearance and personality

Huali is an older woman whose appearance reminds Jack of an old yoga instructor. She dresses simply and presides over a large but unostentatious wooden manor. In conversation she can be amused and warm, but her judgments are deliberate; she asks Jack to justify the risks he asks her faction to take. Her public composure remains steady when Monsoon provokes her, and her decisions show a protective loyalty to her disciples even when faction leaders or the Hand of God pressure her to abandon them. (Chapters 237, 255–256, 265, 285)

Abilities and cultivation

Huali is a C-Grade immortal of the Exploding Sun, first described as high C-Grade and later as peak C-Grade. Her exact Level, personal Dao, and specific combat skill names are unknown. Her power is apparent in the pressure of her aura, spatial travel, and a protective shield that lets Jack observe a supernova at close range. She also confirms that she has one fourth-tier skill, though she does not name it. (Chapters 92, 256, 259, 426, 463)

C-Grade aura and controlled force

During Monsoon’s visit, Huali releases an aura that fills the sky with heat and presses down on those nearby. Jack finds it comparable to Monsoon’s power, and her release forces Monsoon to form a Dao bubble around himself and his head disciple for protection. Huali immediately withdraws the pressure when she chooses. The scene establishes her as Monsoon’s equal in strength and shows that she can control how much of her presence reaches those around her; it does not reveal the full mechanics of her combat abilities. (Chapters 255–256)

Spatial travel and supernova protection

Huali uses a one-way starship whose helm responds to the Dao of Space; she supplies it with energy and guides it to a distant supernova. At the star, she forms a transparent orange shield around Jack and says she can limit the heat to a survivable level. The shield protects him long enough to perceive the star’s collapse and the Dao patterns in its light, although the exposure still overwhelms his senses. Huali’s purpose is to help Jack study the real event so he might understand the Exploding Sun’s Supernova skill, not to grant him the technique outright. The source does not name Huali’s own Dao or say whether the shield is a unique skill, an application of her cultivation, or a technique from her faction. (Chapter 259)

Huali also recognizes the practical limits of skill development. She says most C-Grades remain at the third skill tier, only a few reach a fourth-tier skill, and B-Grades commonly have one or two after tens of thousands of years of practice. She confirms that she herself has one fourth-tier skill but does not identify it. (Chapter 463)
