Lorgar Burnflame
Lorgar Burnflame is the third daughter of Guelz Burnflame and a former prospective heir of the Wildflame clan. A Mojin “Divine Lady” whose magic transforms her into a giant desert wolf, she leaves Iron Sand City to seek stronger opponents in the north. Her encounters with Ashes, Roland Wimbledon, and the Neverwinter Exploration Group gradually redirect that pursuit from solitary combat toward collective defense. She remains a warrior driven by challenge, but learns that courage can include warning others, accepting rescue, and belonging to a team.
Biography
Wildflame's champion and the duel with Ashes
Lorgar awakens during a disastrous hunt when a wolf pack overwhelms her party. Her transformation saves her life and eventually makes her Wildflame's unmatched champion. She masters partial transformation, defeats challengers, and helps stabilize a clan weakened by years of holy duels. The power also permanently leaves her with wolf ears and a visible tail. Although her father names her heir to counter doubts about her legitimacy, Lorgar hides those features beneath a cloak and tries to answer social rejection through strength. (Chapters 763 and 781)
After seeing Osha's rise, Lorgar challenges Ashes to an unarmed holy duel. Partial transformation gives her punishing blows, while full transformation turns her into a wolf larger than a horse, with the speed and reach to drive Ashes backward. Ashes nevertheless exploits the human portions left vulnerable during partial change and the blind zones of the full wolf body. Lorgar refuses to surrender after losing an eye and a forelimb, proving her resolve but also showing that endurance cannot erase tactical disadvantage. (Chapters 765–768)
A Four-winged Eagle interrupts the duel and pins the wounded Lorgar. Andrea's precision fire breaks its grip, while Ashes shields Lorgar and offers the prospect of complete treatment in Neverwinter. That promise changes Lorgar's response from accepting death to fighting for survival. She asks Ashes to throw her at the diving beast, transforms in midair, breaks its beak, and drags it to the ground so Andrea can finish it. Nana later restores Lorgar's crushed limbs and eye. The rescue demonstrates that the northern witches' strength lies not only in winning a duel but in ensuring that a defeated opponent can live beyond it. (Chapters 769–781)
Leaving the desert and choosing Neverwinter
Recovery gives Lorgar the confidence to stop hiding her ears and tail. She also realizes that she wants a road beyond preserving Wildflame's rank in Iron Sand City. When Guelz declines another challenge, Lorgar correctly understands that he intends to move the clan toward Graycastle's new southern settlements rather than spend lives defending a shrinking oasis hierarchy. She renounces the succession in favor of her elder brother Rohan, trusts Guelz to lead the migration, and sets out alone to find Ashes. (Chapters 781–783)
At Port of Clearwater, Lorgar studies whether Graycastle is keeping its promises to the Mojins. She sees northern workers voluntarily building housing, Mojins earning food through paid work, and residents treating her transformed features with curiosity rather than fear. Ashes and Echo welcome her, but Lorgar still withholds allegiance until she can judge Roland directly. Their first meeting unsettles her expectations: Roland calls her wolf features attractive and refuses her offer to hunt demons alone, arguing that the coming war is a contest between civilizations rather than a sequence of personal duels. Lorgar initially takes this as an insult and decides to prove herself without him. (Chapters 817–833)
Her independent plan leads her into the Barbarian Land, where Lightning and Maggie mistake her wolf form for a demonic beast. Lightning offers the location of Taquila in exchange for joining the Neverwinter Exploration Group. Lorgar initially regards the group as children's play, but its careful field shelters, maps, shared supplies, and genuine dedication change her judgment. She recognizes in Lightning's dream of exploration the same seriousness others once denied her own pursuit of martial skill. She accepts membership and begins combining her hunting experience with their reconnaissance. (Chapters 850–853)
Warning Neverwinter and joining the Witch Union
Months of hunting sharpen Lorgar's senses and combat technique. She tracks a demonic hybrid through rain, then encounters two Mad Demons. Her first attack tears off an arm, and when the demons attempt a second magic-enhanced spear throw, she cancels her full transformation so the projectile passes through the space her wolf body occupied and strikes the other demon. The victory encourages her, but the massive army assembling at Taquila immediately reveals how incomplete a single duel's lesson can be. (Chapters 897–898)
Lorgar scouts the demon force rather than charging it and attempts to bring the warning home. A senior commander anticipates her escape, and pursuing demons injure her so severely that she reaches Neverwinter near death. Nightfall's Seed of Symbiosis keeps her alive until Nana can return from the northern campaign. Her report places the city on alert and supplies detailed observations of the demons' giant Red Mist carriers. Roland praises the warning while refusing to approve the solitary expedition that nearly killed her. (Chapters 904–919)
The response finally resolves Lorgar's distrust. Roland sends Nana back promptly despite the healer's importance to his army, and the Witch Union sustains Lorgar for days without knowing whether she can repay them. Faced with those actions, she accepts Roland's sincerity and asks to join the Union as her reward. She jokes about wages and free drinks, but privately understands the decision as a Mojin's allegiance earned by demonstrated care. Union membership also lets her coordinate openly with Lightning and Maggie rather than treating their group as a convenient guide service. (Chapters 918–919)
Frontier service and a larger clan
Lorgar becomes an active member of the Exploration Group and the northern defensive effort. She trains nightly because transformation does not eliminate the need to condition her human body, and her hearing detects the silence that precedes a demon night attack. She pulls Lightning out of a projectile's path but is pinned by a stone needle and orders Lightning to warn the armored train rather than remain beside her. After Nana treats the wound, Lorgar reassures Lightning and explicitly calls her the captain the group loves. The solitary challenger has learned to judge success by whether her companions and the wider force survive. (Chapters 1061–1082)
Her Wildflame background remains part of that development. When Lightning is ashamed of her fear, Lorgar recounts how Guelz became strong through his clansmen's support rather than individual fearlessness. She admits that her father and Rohan's embarrassing efforts at a Neverwinter sporting event made her happy, then applies the same principle to the Exploration Group: courage can come from those around a person. Later references show her training frequently with Ashes and remaining a warmly remembered field companion to Lightning and Maggie after Ashes's death. (Chapters 1061–1064, 1081, 1106, and 1204)
At the latest relevant scene, Lorgar is in Neverwinter with the other witches when an experimental car runs out of control. She and Phyllis physically lift it off the ground while Anna shuts down its engine. The moment is small compared with the demon front, but it captures her final supplied state: alive, accepted without concealing her body, and using her strength reflexively beside companions rather than seeking an opponent alone. (Chapter 1212)
Appearance and personality
In human form, Lorgar is a young Mojin woman with olive skin, red curly hair, long fluffy wolf ears, and a tail. Her limbs are slender but highly trained, and she initially goes barefoot in the desert. The ears and tail became permanent after repeated use of her magic; she has no ordinary human ears to conceal beneath her hair. She once hides them under a hood because other Mojins call her a monster, but abandons the disguise after Nana heals her and her dream clarifies what she values. (Chapters 763, 766, 781, 817, and 833)
Lorgar is earnest, proud, and intensely competitive. She interprets the world through fighting, hunting, and Mojin ideas of honor, sometimes with comic literalness. Her ears and tail openly betray embarrassment, excitement, or disappointment even when she tries to look like a severe future chief. She also enjoys alcohol more than her budget permits, especially unpredictable Chaos Drinks, but remains disciplined enough to recognize that indulgence can undermine a warrior. (Chapters 763, 783, 833, and 850)
Her greatest flaw is the belief that personal danger is the surest proof of worth. Early on, this makes her continue a ruined duel and enter demon territory with inadequate information. Experience does not remove her appetite for challenge, but it adds patience, reconnaissance, and responsibility. She can retreat with intelligence, send a faster companion for help, and comfort frightened teammates without treating their fear as weakness. (Chapters 768–770, 897–919, and 1081–1082)
Magic and abilities
Wolf transformation
Lorgar can transform wholly into a gigantic desert wolf or selectively transform individual limbs. Full transformation gives her enormous mass, strength, speed, claws, fangs, and a broad tail capable of sweeping a wide area. Her transformed body can withstand impacts that would kill her human form, and it heals minor injuries rapidly enough to support prolonged wilderness hunts. It is not invulnerable: eyes, limbs, and internal organs remain susceptible to precise or overwhelming attacks, and severe wounds require medical treatment. (Chapters 763, 766–770, 897, and 918)
Partial transformation concentrates power without the bulk of the full wolf. Lorgar can turn an arm into a claw for a sudden strike or strengthen all four limbs while retaining a smaller body. This lets her operate just outside the suppressive reach of a God's Stone and gives her enough strength in a half-transformed state to suit weapons designed for God's Punishment Witches. The human portions remain weak points, however, and a nearby God's Stone can prevent free transformation altogether. (Chapters 763, 766, 819, and 919)
Transformation can also be canceled tactically. Against a demon's spear, Lorgar abruptly cuts off the magic and shrinks from wolf to human size, causing the attack to strike a different target. The maneuver depends on timing and does not make projectiles harmless; a later stone needle catches her before she can avoid it. Full transformation destroys ordinary clothing unless she removes it first, and large equipment becomes burdensome when she returns to human form. (Chapters 767, 817, 898, 919, and 1082)
Enhanced senses and fieldcraft
Lorgar's wolf body greatly enhances smell and hearing. She follows caravans by scent, distinguishes the magic-tainted blood of hybrid demonic beasts through heavy rain, tracks prey over long distances, and detects distant movement or unnatural silence before other scouts. She can distinguish many people by odor at moderate range, but strong scents and distance interfere. Her senses provide clues rather than certainty: demons can set ambushes, aerial observers can follow her, and an unfamiliar threat can exploit what she assumes she knows. (Chapters 817, 897–898, 1034, and 1081–1082)
She is also an accomplished Mojin hunter who learned camouflage, downwind approaches, terrain reading, patience, and wilderness survival before reaching Neverwinter. Her body records the sensation of combat vividly, allowing her to analyze past fights and improve. The Barbarian Land broadens that experience to unfamiliar beasts and demons, while the Exploration Group adds maps, logistics, and shared intelligence. These learned skills remain necessary because transformation supplies physical advantages but not perfect tactics. (Chapters 763, 781, 852–853, and 897–907)
Close combat and endurance
Lorgar is trained in unarmed fighting from childhood. She uses punches, kicks, claws, bites, body weight, and tail strikes in combinations adapted to either form. In wolf form she can contest a Four-winged Eagle in midair after Ashes launches her, kill Mad Demons at close range, and physically help lift an experimental vehicle. She is not as consistently strong or fast as an Extraordinary: Ashes can exploit her blind zones and weak points, and a God’s Punishment Warrior–class opponent retains an advantage if Lorgar's magic is suppressed. (Chapters 763, 766–770, 819, 898, and 1212)
Her stamina and recovery are exceptional but finite. She can travel and hunt alone for long periods, yet sustained pursuit by demons nearly kills her, and ordinary conditioning remains necessary to keep the transformed body effective. Sleep, food, healing supplies, and allies materially affect her survival. Lorgar's mature fighting style therefore combines aggressive close combat with an increasing willingness to disengage and report when the opponent exceeds the mission. (Chapters 817, 897–919, and 1081–1082)
Relationships
- Guelz Burnflame: Guelz trains Lorgar, shields her claim when others reject her appearance, and hopes she will inherit Wildflame. Lorgar ultimately understands his intention to abandon the oasis struggle and trusts him enough to choose her own path. His lesson that strength can come from one's clan later helps her support Lightning. (Chapters 763, 781–783, 1061–1081)
- Ashes: Ashes is the first opponent Lorgar cannot overcome and the warrior who persuades her to keep living after catastrophic injury. Lorgar follows her north, trains with her, and regards her strength as both mountain and shelter. Their rivalry becomes friendship, while Ashes incorporates Lorgar's partial-strengthening technique into her own growth. (Chapters 765–783, 817, and 1104–1106)
- Roland Wimbledon: Lorgar initially suspects Roland's Mojin policy and resents his refusal to endorse solitary fighting. His acceptance of her appearance and rapid dispatch of Nana eventually prove his concern through action. She joins his Witch Union voluntarily, though she continues to test orders against her warrior's judgment. (Chapters 817–833 and 918–919)
- Lightning: Lightning recruits Lorgar into the Exploration Group by offering knowledge of Taquila. Lorgar first underestimates her, then recognizes her preparation and dream as genuine. She later protects, advises, and reassures Lightning, accepting her as captain even after fear undermines Lightning's confidence. (Chapters 851–853 and 1061–1082)
- Maggie: Maggie is Lorgar's fellow transformation witch and Exploration Group companion. Their shared fieldwork turns Lorgar's original hope for a formidable opponent into an affectionate partnership based on food, transport, and mutual rescue. Maggie helps bring the critically wounded Lorgar to treatment during the night attack. (Chapters 851–853 and 1082)
- Andrea Quinn: Andrea's exact fire helps free and save Lorgar from the Four-winged Eagle. They later train and work in the same Neverwinter circle, trading skeptical remarks while relying on one another's very different combat ranges. (Chapters 769–770, 1034, and 1212)
