Mu Jinwon is the Wise Clan's First Elder and one of the Demonic Cult's strongest martial artists before Chun Yeowun's rise.

Biography

First Elder of the Wise Clan

Mu Jinwon leads the Wise Clan when it is the strongest of the six great clans and serves as First Elder of the Demonic Cult. His reputation rests on a rare ability to operate both hands independently, using a separate sword art through each side. Only Chun Muyeon, the Wise Clan's succession candidate, is said to have learned the same final discipline, making Jinwon's martial inheritance part of the clan's political claim to rule. Within the cult he is placed among its three decisive combatants alongside Lord Chun Yujong and Great Guardian Marakim. He has spent decades at the end stage of the superior level without a recorded defeat. When Chun Yeowun first selects him for the Academy's sixth test, observers interpret the choice as near suicide and Jinwon immediately accepts because the duel would let him eliminate the only serious threat to his grandson's succession. The Anonymous Teacher and the Twenty Four Demon Sword

While away from the cult, Mu Jinwon, Kingbonki, and Yin Moha are summoned by a masked figure who claims to preserve the Sword Demon's inheritance. Jinwon is suspicious and repeatedly questions the teacher's purpose, but recognizes that the stranger is too powerful to interrogate by force. He and Kingbonki accept instruction when the stranger offers the Twenty Four Demon Sword, an art created from the Sword Demon's struggle against the Blade God. (Chapters 180–181)

The teacher gives them three years to perfect its first formation and presents a countering formation as the standard they must overcome. Jinwon does more than imitate the lesson. Jinwon returns to the cult as the ranking elder who publicly manages the crowd while the Lord receives Yulin guests. The subsequent report reveals that the two factions destroyed one another: Jinwon's sister Lady Mu is dead, Chun Muyeon has died after escaping Academy custody, and the bodies carry evidence implicating the Wise Clan's Right Sword Left Hand art. The apparent chain of events is plausible enough to resist immediate disproof, but Jinwon refuses to believe his family would make so many ruinous mistakes just as Muyeon approached the succession. When Yeowun appears as both the new Twelfth Elder and sole viable prince, grief becomes suspicion. Breaking Discipline in the Great Hall

Jinwon's hostile aura fills the hall as Yeowun's succession is discussed. The Lord suppresses him with energy carried in a quiet command, and Jinwon pounds his head against the floor until it bleeds in formal apology. Outwardly he returns to his seat; inwardly he resolves to investigate and tear Yeowun apart himself. His usual suspicion and self-preservation have been overtaken by grief, making him willing to violate the same hierarchy that sustains his rank. (Chapter 191)

The confrontation becomes open combat when Jinwon attacks Yeowun in the Lord's presence. His first exchanges prove that the reputation is deserved. He counters Yeowun's Twenty Four Demon Sword with True Demon Sword in one hand and Wise Sword through the other, penetrating the younger fighter's defense and wounding his shoulder and abdomen. Death and the Collapse of Wise Clan Power

Yeowun answers with the Blade God's formations. The unfamiliar angles throw back Jinwon's left side, and the rising “Flying Dragon” formation traps him in a tornado-like prison of blade force. Jinwon concentrates his energy into a defensive barrier, but the descending blade force tears through it and cuts his body apart. His death before the assembled clan leaders eliminates the cult's First Elder and the strongest remaining protector of the Wise Clan. (Chapters 192–193)

The political result is as important as the duel. Wise Clan survivors are now skilled warriors without their central patron, and other factions immediately consider recruiting them or dividing Jinwon's property and secrets. Yeowun is formally recognized as heir soon after. Appearance and personality

Mu Jinwon appears as a man in his mid-thirties despite being an established elder. His position and martial pressure inspire fear and deference. He is habitually suspicious, asking why the anonymous teacher would offer a secret art and preferring to report a leaked ambush rather than walk into an uncertain trap alone.

That caution has a breaking point. The destruction of his sister, grandson, and clan turns suspicion into fixation on Yeowun. He can still apologize under the Lord's pressure, but no longer accepts the evidentiary uncertainty he would ordinarily examine. His last battle is therefore both the fullest display of his technical intelligence and the abandonment of his political discipline.

Martial arts and abilities

Right Sword Left Hand

Mu Jinwon's signature discipline allows him to execute different martial arts independently through his two hands. This is not merely alternating attacks: in his duel with Yeowun, one side sustains a True Demon Sword formation while the other uses Wise Sword to penetrate the opponent's defense. The technique is unusually difficult because each hand must preserve its own sequence, timing, and energy while the practitioner reads a single opponent. These arts are lethal at range because the formed sword force can strike beyond the hand itself.
