Chun Mukeum

Chun Mukeum is the Loyal Clan's candidate for the Demonic Cult succession and one of Chun Yeowun's earliest enemies.

Biography

Assassination Attempts before the Academy

Before Chun Yeowun can enter the Demonic Academy, Chun Mukeum sends five Loyal Clan assassins to kill the supposedly untrained seventh prince. Their failure exposes both Mukeum's willingness to use murder in the succession struggle and his mistaken assessment of Yeowun's isolation. He is third in the succession ranking and has been raised to expect deference; when a subordinate reports the failure using his personal name, Mukeum reacts to the breach of status before considering why the mission went wrong. Mukeum enters the Academy with the Loyal Clan's resources and his childhood retainer Jahyun. He assumes that Yeowun can be removed through other clans' plots or controlled inside their shared group. This strategy repeatedly fails because it depends on the old image of Yeowun as an ignorant outsider, while Nano's training lets Yeowun learn faster than Mukeum anticipates. (Chapters 8–16)

Group Leadership and the First Confrontation

Mukeum is not incompetent. As the eighth group's leader, he arranges his cadets cleanly and drills them through coordinated formations well enough to earn the instructor's praise. His flaw is that he turns that authority toward a private feud. During formation practice he orders Jahyun to move incorrectly at a critical moment in the hope of making Yeowun fail; Yeowun adapts, while Jahyun is punished and the scheme only weakens Mukeum's control over the group. Outside formal training, Mukeum surrounds himself with cadets who behave like servants and confronts Yeowun over status. His reliance on intimidation sharpens the group's division rather than isolating his rival. The struggle culminates in physical defeats and periods in the medical room, so the prince who entered with an established faction is repeatedly forced to rebuild while Yeowun acquires followers through performance. Tags, Setbacks, and the Decline of His Candidacy

Jahyun continues organizing Loyal Clan supporters while Mukeum recovers. Soon after returning from treatment, Mukeum uses that reconstructed faction to obtain a yellow tag and remain viable in the Academy trials. The success shows organizational resilience, but it also reveals his dependence: where Yeowun's group grows around demonstrated leadership, Mukeum's recovery relies on inherited retainers and clan loyalty. As the tests continue, Yeowun becomes the formal favorite and Mukeum fails the fifth test. The Academy no longer offers him a credible path to overtake his rival. He withdraws into closed training after returning to the cult and disappears from the immediate contest, while the Loyal Clan and its allied elders preserve him as the only comparatively intact prince whom they might still place above Yeowun. The Loyal Clan's Marriage Strategy

Four hostile elders designate Mukeum as their formal alternative to the Crown Prince and attempt to bind the Demon Dragon Clan through his marriage to Mun Ku. Mukeum must bow to Yeowun when both parties arrive at Mun Yun's estate, making the reversal of their Academy positions explicit. The elders bring political pressure and a valuable tag connected to the Godly Doctor, but Mukeum himself brings damaging history: at the Academy he had threatened to erase the Demon Dragon Clan if Mun Ku refused his faction. Mun Ku reveals her identity and repeats the threat before her grandfather. Mukeum is embarrassed, then becomes infatuated with her and interprets Yeowun's intimacy with her as another possession stolen from him. That resentment joins his existing belief that Yeowun caused Lady Ja's death. Although Ja Kinkeng warned him to remain calm, Mukeum releases hostile energy toward the Crown Prince and turns a strained negotiation into an actionable act of treason. (Chapters 214–217)

Defeat and Loss of His Right Arm

Yin Moha reaches Mukeum before he can attack. Mukeum is a Super Master and raises eighty percent of his energy to knock away her sword, but the elder-level guard keeps the point at his neck. Bu Churyong and Ja Kinkeng abandon their pride and kneel because Mukeum is the last prince their four-clan alliance can still promote. Yeowun leverages that desperation to obtain the Godly Doctor tag, apparently accepts their surrender, and then severs Mukeum's right arm with the White Dragon Blade. (Chapters 217–218)

The punishment is both physical and political. Ja Kinkeng can stop the bleeding by pressing Mukeum's blood points, but cannot restore the limb. By disabling rather than executing him, Yeowun removes Mukeum's remaining value as a martial succession candidate while denying the allied elders grounds to claim that the Crown Prince exceeded his authority. The elders must publicly thank Yeowun for his “mercy” and carry Mukeum away, ending the candidacy that began with his attempt to murder Yeowun before the Academy. (Chapter 218)

Appearance and personality

Mukeum is raised with a prince's entitlement and reacts strongly whenever others deny his expected status. He is violent, proud, and quick to convert humiliation into retaliation. His threats against Mun Ku's clan and his final surge of killing intent occur when anger overrides political judgment, even after allies have explained the consequences.

His confidence is not entirely empty. Mukeum can organize cadets, recover his faction after hospitalization, and reach the Super Master level. What he consistently lacks is adaptability: he treats inherited rank, retainers, and marriage as substitutes for winning durable loyalty, while Yeowun repeatedly changes the conditions around him.

Martial arts and abilities

Super Master Internal Energy

By the confrontation at Mun Yun's estate, Mukeum has reached the Super Master level. He can deliberately raise a measured portion of his internal energy—eighty percent in the documented exchange—to try to strike aside Yin Moha's sword. This places him above ordinary Academy graduates and explains why the four elders can still present him as a martial heir after his earlier failures. (Chapter 217)

Rank does not make him competitive with the setting's elders or with Yeowun. Yin Moha controls the exchange at sword point, and Yeowun closes the distance and positions the White Dragon Blade at Mukeum's neck before he can respond. The encounter supplies a clear ceiling for his ability: he is dangerous to ordinary cultists, but outclassed by the elite figures deciding the succession. (Chapter 217)

Formation Command and Faction Organization

Mukeum's best-demonstrated skill is command within a prepared hierarchy. He organizes the eighth Academy group so its members change positions and construct offensive and defensive formations without mistakes. The most difficult formation stacks shields into a defensive line while swords thrust through the gaps, requiring the group leader to time multiple cadets rather than win through personal force. (Chapter 20)

He also knows how to convert Loyal Clan allegiance into practical Academy resources. Even while Mukeum is hospitalized, Jahyun recruits and organizes on his behalf, allowing him to return and obtain a yellow tag. This is real factional capacity, but it depends on inherited loyalty and therefore fails to scale once Yeowun's voluntary coalition becomes stronger. (Chapters 63, 84–86)

Combat Disposition and Permanent Limitation

Mukeum fights aggressively and readily directs violence through subordinates, from the five pre-Academy assassins to attempts at sabotaging Yeowun inside group exercises. His anger can produce immediate killing intent, but it also telegraphs his actions to more experienced martial artists; Yin Moha senses his hostility before he can strike. (Chapters 4, 20, 217)

Yeowun's removal of Mukeum's right arm permanently changes how any later martial ability must be interpreted. Ja Kinkeng stops the acute bleeding through blood-point control, but the corpus does not document a replacement limb, a retrained left-handed style, or a return to his former level. It would therefore be unsupported to describe him as retaining his complete Super Master combat capability after Chapter 218. (Chapter 218)
