Ja Kinkeng is the leader of the Loyal Clan and an elder who uses his office to resist Chun Yeowun's succession.

Biography

Defending the six-clan succession order

Ja Kinkeng enters the succession conflict as Fourth Elder and head of the Loyal Clan, one of the powers invested in preserving the six-clan order. When Chun Yeowun kills the First Elder in the Great Hall, Kinkeng immediately reframes the act as contempt for Chun Yujong's authority. His aim is not neutral discipline: he explicitly wants to prevent Yeowun from becoming heir. Yeowun's strength frightens him, but formal law offers a weapon that does not require defeating the prince directly. (Chapters 187 and 193–194)

The external attack by the Blade God Six Martial Clan forces Kinkeng into the same defense as his political opponents. He follows Marakim toward the library and finds that Yeowun has already killed a dangerous attacker alone. The evidence makes Yeowun's growing power impossible to dismiss, yet Kinkeng continues to treat him as a threat to Loyal Clan influence rather than a leader to support. (Chapter 206)

The failed marriage alliance

Kinkeng and Bu Churyong bring Loyal Clan prince Chun Mukeum to Mun Yun's residence with a marriage proposal for Mun Ku. The plan is intended to attach the influential Dragon Fist Clan to Mukeum and preserve a viable six-clan candidate against Yeowun. Kinkeng assumes that Mun Ku will not openly reject the Lord's son, presses for her immediate decision, and treats her beauty as confirmation that the match is advantageous. (Chapters 213–215)

The negotiation instead exposes Mukeum's earlier threat to erase the Dragon Fist Clan. Kinkeng tries to dismiss it as youthful speech, but anger carries his confrontation with Mun Yun to the point where both superior masters release enough energy to shake the gazebo. Yeowun then turns the prince's challenge into a duel, severs Mukeum's arm, and refuses the elders' pleas to spare him. Kinkeng throws away his pride to kneel and later seals the wound, but cannot save the candidate around whom the Loyal Clan's succession strategy was built. (Chapters 215–218)

Coronation resistance and submission

After Chun Yujong is incapacitated, Kinkeng joins the elders arguing that Yeowun's coronation must wait for the sitting Lord to recover. He walks away from the Great Meeting in protest, expecting clan office and procedure to constrain the new ruler. Yeowun instead invites Kinkeng, Bu Churyong, and Hang Soyu to dinner, where their confidence collapses after they unknowingly consume poison parasites controlled by the Sky Demon's qi. Kinkeng attempts to purge his parasite with internal energy and is nearly incapacitated by the pain, demonstrating that cultivation alone cannot remove it. (Chapters 253–256)

Given a choice between clan pride and survival, Kinkeng submits. Lady Ja has already died, so unlike the other elders he cannot complete Yeowun's demand to sever a implicated relative's arm, but the episode still reveals his priority: he will preserve his own life and office rather than die in symbolic resistance. Yeowun's new ranking competition lowers him from Fourth Elder to Tenth Elder. He nevertheless remains in service and is sent under Suh Deng as a lieutenant against the Blade God clan, ending the arc as a constrained subordinate of the Lord he tried to block. Appearance and personality

The corpus gives no stable physical description beyond Ja Kinkeng's position as an older clan leader. He is socially confident, fond of unusual foods, and quick enough in conversation to turn ritual, law, or marriage custom toward a political goal. That calculation is paired with pride in his rank; Mun Yun's refusal angers him partly because a lower-numbered elder is defying him.

Kinkeng is not courageous when every protection fails. He kneels to save Mukeum, tests Yeowun's dinner with suspicion, and finally values survival over the honor he invokes in public. Superior-master cultivation

Kinkeng is explicitly presented as a superior-master warrior when his released energy clashes with Mun Yun's and shakes their surroundings.
