Biography

The Sword Clan's leading candidate

Kungwun enters the Demonic Academy as the Sword Clan prince and second-ranked candidate for the throne. His inherited position makes him one of the succession contest's presumed leaders before Chun Yeowun has learned martial arts or formed a faction. Like the other clan princes, Kungwun treats the academy tests as opportunities not only to advance personally but to acquire followers who will support his eventual claim. (Chapters 8–9)

Building an academy faction

When Kungwun observes that Bakgi has reached the master level, he offers the cadet a place in his group and implies that joining a prince is the path to higher standing. Bakgi's indifference irritates him, but Kungwun suppresses the anger in public. He later obtains two yellow tags, creates an additional group, and continues recruiting as the pool of uncommitted talent shrinks. After Yeowun spends years in a closed training room, Kungwun escalates his recruitment of Mun Ku. He surrounds her and Hu Bong with more than twenty armed cadets, calls her a future pawn, and proposes a coerced duel: if she loses, she becomes his servant. When she refuses, Kungwun orders his group to attack and personally fights her. The two established grandmasters initially appear even, but Kungwun pours force qi into his sword and drives through successive formations until Mun Ku's own qi weakens. Yeowun emerges during the clash, defeats Kungwun's followers in moments, catches the force-qi-coated sword with one hand, and shatters it. Departure from the academy

Kungwun is taken to the infirmary, and his defeat immediately weakens the Sword Clan faction. He leaves the academy with ten clan-affiliated cadets; several less committed followers change sides to Chun Muyeon instead. The academy later records him as one of the expelled princes, leaving only Yeowun and Muyeon as viable heir candidates.
