Roo Game
Roo Game is a young Slough police officer who assists Chief Anton Millstun as Altered killings and gang violence overwhelm ordinary law enforcement. His value lies less in authority than in careful evidence work, concern for civilians, and a growing willingness to question investigative assumptions.
Biography
Learning to investigate Slough's Altered violence
Roo enters the Slough police as Anton Millstun's young assistant, responsible for turning forensic results and witness accounts into usable leads. He brings Anton the blood analysis that separates a captured teenage assailant from an unknown victim connected to the construction-site killings, establishing that the case falls within White Rose jurisdiction rather than ordinary gang violence [Ch. 60]. He later helps question students after Billy's attack and relays the underground-fighting lead that directs investigators toward the missing Altered [Chs. 67, 88]. Although he normally follows Anton's judgment, Roo objects when the police contain themselves during the colour-gang war, pressing his superior about trapped civilians and ambulances; the exchange shows both his concern for bystanders and how little room a junior officer has to overcome institutional limits [Ch. 98].
Acting when formal procedure moves too slowly
Roo grows more willing to challenge a narrow investigation. When Anton focuses on murders, Roo proposes checking missing-person reports, widening the search toward victims who might never have been recorded as dead [Ch. 280]. He then extracts Suzan and Kevin from Grey Elephant territory after their orphanage report, explains why the police cannot raid a gang-controlled building without a warrant, and nevertheless accepts Kevin's syringe as evidence while promising to watch for the relevant truck [Ch. 282]. The legal response remains slower than the danger, but Roo's intervention gets the children out alive. He later accompanies Anton and White Rose personnel to the gang-war aftermath, and is still alive when last shown [Ch. 296].
Appearance and personality
Roo is a young man who wears the blue shirt and shoulder straps of a police officer [Ch. 60]. His initial deference reflects his rookie status rather than indifference: he repeatedly worries about civilians, asks practical questions, and becomes confident enough to suggest avenues Anton has overlooked. He respects procedure, yet does what he safely can when procedure delays protection.
Powers and abilities
Roo is an ordinary human and demonstrates no supernatural power, Altered transformation, or Qi technique. His useful abilities are police work: he reads forensic reports, interviews witnesses, connects tips across cases, and understands the warrants and jurisdiction governing Altered crimes [Chs. 60, 67, 282]. Those skills help investigations progress, but they do not let him confront powerful gangs or Altereds directly; he relies on Anton, White Rose, and available police resources when violence exceeds normal law enforcement.
Relationships
- Anton Millstun: Roo serves as Anton's assistant and learns investigative practice under him, while occasionally challenging Anton's assumptions or reluctance to act [Chs. 60, 98, 280].
- Suzan and Kevin: He takes their warning seriously enough to escort them away from gang territory and preserve the physical evidence Kevin provides [Ch. 282].
Items
No personal item is assigned to Roo in the finalized inventory. He uses standard police resources rather than a named signature object.
