Kevin
Kevin is an older child from the Black Rock orphanage, a student and surrogate younger brother of Innu, and one of the young Howlers who volunteers to become a werewolf during the Phoenix invasion. His desire to protect the only family he has left repeatedly places him in battles beyond his experience, but he survives long enough to develop from an observant trainee into a capable pack fighter.
Biography
The orphanage and the choice to fight
Kevin helps Suzan care for the younger children and practices the punches and kicks Innu shows him, regarding Innu as both a mentor and an older brother. After becoming the sole survivor associated with the Black Rock orphanage disaster, he remains close to the Howlers and refuses to be protected as if his age makes his losses less real. During the Phoenix attack, fourteen-year-old Kevin enters Kai's volunteer group because he remembers being unable to help before and wants to protect his remaining friends. Even after a recruit dies from a failed bite, he insists on proceeding. Marie turns him successfully, though the transformation pain makes him collapse. (Chapters 174–251, 426–650, 842–845)
Kevin receives only a day of preparation before joining the street battle. He and Tyler fight as a pair, using pack attacks against stronger Phoenix leaders rather than pretending their new bodies make them invincible. Greed kills Tyler in front of him, and Kevin briefly loses the will to continue, but later rescues injured allies and helps civilians while the core fighters confront Sin. The experience turns the power he wanted into a lasting responsibility: he survives, but carries the immediate knowledge that volunteering did not guarantee that everyone would come home. (Chapters 868–908)
Training and the old-pack war
At Howlers Manor, Kevin watches Innu teach Qi and asks to learn rather than remaining dependent on transformation. He practices with Xin Clove, trading his experience with werewolf senses for her combat guidance. During the full-moon conflict he manages a Qi-reinforced punch without transforming, then uses a captured invisibility mask and Anti-Altered weapon to protect the restaurant. At sunrise he transforms freely and kills an enemy wolf with a low, fast attack. His latest appearance leaves him alive, still learning, and effective through persistence and coordination rather than a named elite class. (Chapters 1356–1367, 1437–1508)
Appearance and personality
Kevin is introduced as a boy older than most of the orphanage children but still only around fourteen when he volunteers for conversion. He is smaller than the adult Howlers and remains notably compact in later battles, using that build to attack beneath larger opponents. The corpus provides no stable hair, eye, or clothing description beyond his changing Howlers and combat equipment. (Chapters 174, 842, 1508)
He is helpful, eager, and stubborn about being allowed to choose his own risks. Kevin's optimism sometimes masks fear—he jokes that a second failed bite is statistically unlikely—but it also lets him keep learning after traumatic losses. He respects stronger mentors without being passive and readily questions explanations when he wants to understand how a technique works.
Powers and abilities
Werewolf conversion and physiology
Marie turns Kevin through an intentional bite charged with transformation energy and held for several seconds. The process is painful and can kill a rejected recipient; Kevin survives after intense muscle pain and unconsciousness. As a werewolf he gains enhanced strength, speed, senses, resilience, healing, claws, and the ability to shift into a bipedal wolf form. He uses hearing to detect distant events, catches falling allies, heals from injuries that would disable an ordinary human, and later changes form in the middle of an evasive attack. His class and any class-specific skills are never stated. (Chapters 843–845, 868–908, 1437–1508)
Developing Qi control
Kevin first learns the concept of Qi while watching Innu train Gary and Xin. Innu explains breathing, internal circulation, and reinforcement, but the corpus does not show Kevin completing formal mastery. Kevin later imitates the method on his own and channels enough energy into a human-form punch to hurt Ghost. This establishes beginner-level enhancement, not telekinesis or Innu's full technique set. His latest demonstrated combat still combines basic Qi insight with ordinary werewolf transformation rather than a named advanced skill. (Chapters 1357–1367, 1437)
Temporary combat equipment
Kevin temporarily uses Ghost's beast-gear mask, which hides the wearer until blood or contact reveals the position, together with a scavenged Anti-Altered weapon. The combination lets him cut enemy werewolves while remaining unseen, but the effects come from borrowed gear, not Kevin's body. The corpus does not establish permanent ownership after the war. (Chapters 1441, 1493)
Relationships
Innu
Innu is Kevin's teacher, role model, and chosen older brother. Kevin studies his fighting before becoming a werewolf and later asks him for Qi instruction. Innu's protectiveness helps preserve Kevin's connection to the orphanage, while Kevin gives Innu a family responsibility larger than his own combat ambitions.
Tyler
Kevin and Tyler volunteer, transform, and enter their first werewolf battle together. Their teamwork helps less experienced wolves contest elite Phoenix members. Tyler's death directly in front of Kevin is the cost that most clearly ends Kevin's belief that courage and a new body are enough by themselves.
Marie and Xin Clove
Marie overcomes her fear after a failed conversion and gives Kevin the bite that changes him. Xin later trains with him at the manor: she teaches fighting technique, while Kevin helps her recognize the senses and instincts of a body he has inhabited longer.
Items
Kevin temporarily carries Ghost's invisibility mask and a scavenged Anti-Altered weapon during the old-pack war. Neither is assigned to him as a finalized personal item in the supplied inventory.
