Pinner

Pinner is one of Harvor's Twelve Zodiacs, the elite enforcers who protect the One Gang's AFC-centered order. His Altered form turns sharp body fur into bombs, restraints, and terrain-breaking charges. He first acts against Xin Clove at Harvor's unspoken direction, then leads a highway blockade against the Howlers and dies attempting to take Kai with him.

Biography

Harvor's enforcer and the highway blockade

Pinner has spent enough time beside Harvor to recognize an order without hearing one. When Harvor wants Xin attacked, Pinner immediately launches a strike, only for Gary Dem to destroy it with a flaming claw. Harvor nevertheless regards Pinner as capable of ranking among the AFC's top ten and later uses him as part of the Zodiac response to Gary's challenge. Pinner's place is powerful but insecure: Zodiac status brings money and fame, while the One Gang permits internal challenges and replacement to keep its elites competitive. (Chapters 991–1014)

Pinner, Berry, and Lena lead Altered forces blocking the Howlers from reaching Gary's fight. Seeing that their opponents protect one another better than the individually trained One Gang fighters, Pinner deliberately demolishes the elevated highway to separate the battlefield, accepting the deaths of his own subordinates as a tactical cost. He then fights Kai, restraining and burning him with explosive fur, but Kai restores himself by consuming fallen Altereds while Pinner's own energy and material run down. Once Kai has torn into his arms and physically overwhelmed him, Pinner ignites charges hidden throughout the rubble and the fur still attached to his body. The suicide blast critically injures Kai but fails to stop him; Kai later recovers while consuming the body left from their fight. (Chapters 1071–1089)

Appearance and personality

Pinner is a man with black hair styled in pronounced spikes, producing a pineapple-like silhouette even before transformation. In his Altered state, dark, sharp fur spreads over his body and can rise into longer thorn-like strands. (Chapters 1071–1086)

He is observant, tactically ruthless, and confident in his rank. Pinner accurately identifies the Howlers' coordination and changes the terrain rather than continuing a losing group engagement. He considers allies expendable, panics when Kai reverses the fight, and ultimately values damaging Harvor's enemies above his own survival.

Powers and abilities

Explosive-fur Altered form

Pinner's Altered source and acquisition are not identified. When transformed, his body produces dense, metal-like spiked fur that he can gather and detach as black balls. The projectiles glow blue immediately before exploding and scatter sharp fragments as well as concussive force. He can throw them singly, release a wide rain of bombs, or pre-position several for linked detonations powerful and precise enough to collapse an elevated highway into separated combat zones. Opponents can evade the glow, intercept the projectiles, or throw them back; Kai detonates one against Pinner's face in this way. (Chapters 1076–1085)

Pinner can also extend fur while it remains attached to his body, intertwining the strands around limbs to restrict movement. After detaching the restraint, he can detonate it around the trapped target. Separation weakens the fur's physical hold, creating a short opportunity before the explosion, and sufficiently sharp werewolf teeth can pierce its protection. Producing bombs and maintaining the Altered form consume finite energy; Pinner explicitly approaches a point where he can make no more fur bombs and his transformation will wear off. His final application bypasses self-preservation by igniting both hidden charges and the fur still on his body, producing his largest explosion at the cost of his life. (Chapters 1085–1086)

Combat judgment

Pinner is trained for both AFC-style close combat and gang operations. He reads coordinated movement, leads two fellow Zodiacs, uses vehicles and falling rubble as cover, and changes tactics when opponents close the distance. Kai's ability to replenish energy from corpses counters Pinner's attritional plan, and Kai's speed between wolf and humanoid forms eventually exceeds Pinner's reactions. (Chapters 1071–1086)

Harvor

Pinner is attuned to Harvor's intentions and acts as one of the champion's trusted sources of violence. Harvor's assessment of his AFC potential reinforces Pinner's confidence, while the Zodiac system makes continued usefulness essential to his position.

Kai

Pinner initially treats Kai's wolf form as unspecialized and expects explosive attrition to overcome him. Kai's willingness to consume Altered bodies changes that balance by replenishing the energy Pinner cannot replace. Pinner's final blast nearly kills him, but Kai survives and reaches Gary's match.
