Oppo
Oppo is the veteran leader of the Rock Guild applicants in the other world. Repeated failure makes him rely on sabotage and a bribed assessor rather than fair performance, bringing the guild into conflict with Gary and exposing its corruption to the knights.
Biography
Sabotaging the knight assessment
Oppo leads the Rock Guild applicants, veterans who have repeatedly failed to become knights. He first proposes a temporary truce with Gary Dem, Kai, and Lupus, but turns their refusal into a personal grievance and directs his guild to obstruct them during the physical trials [Chs. 1597–1600]. The sabotage escalates from blocking runners to tripping rivals and pulling them from holds, yet the newcomers still outperform the Rock Guild. During the weapon test, Siz disarms Oppo with a clean parry. Oppo answers by mocking the boy's hesitation, secure in the knowledge that his guild has bribed an assessor to pass its members and fail Siz regardless of performance [Ch. 1601].
Exposure and defeat
Gary exposes the bribery and forces the conflict into the open. Oppo denies responsibility, then joins his guild's attack with a large sword wielded at surprising speed, but Gary blocks it with a dagger, evades the follow-up, and knocks him down with an uppercut [Chs. 1602–1604]. Siz later gives Bluebird an account of the Rock Guild's traps and corruption, prompting an investigation into both the guild and the assessment officials [Ch. 1607]. Oppo remains alive at his last appearance, but the influence that let him substitute sabotage for merit has been publicly challenged.
Appearance and personality
The supplied chapters do not provide a detailed description of Oppo's face or clothing. His large sword and veteran movement suggest a practiced, physically capable adult fighter. He is proud, resentful, and willing to corrupt a test he cannot reliably pass; he prefers a friendly arrangement while he expects compliance, then treats refusal as justification for cheating.
Powers and abilities
Oppo is an ordinary human with no demonstrated Altered form, magic, or Qi technique. Repeated assessments and guild fighting have given him experience with a large sword, which he can swing faster than its size suggests [Chs. 1601–1604]. He also coordinates group interference effectively enough to disrupt less capable applicants. Neither advantage closes the gap against exceptional opponents: Siz reads and disarms his blade, while Gary blocks the weapon without beast gear and defeats him in close combat. A fellow guild member's specialized boots do not establish that Oppo possesses equivalent equipment.
Relationships
- Gary Dem: Oppo interprets Gary's refusal of a truce as an insult, sabotages his group, and is then personally defeated when Gary exposes the bribery [Chs. 1597–1604].
- Siz: Siz defeats Oppo fairly in the weapon test but is failed through the Rock Guild's bribe; his later testimony helps initiate an investigation [Chs. 1601, 1607].
- Kai and Lupus: Oppo tries to bring Gary's companions into a temporary assessment alliance, then targets all three when they refuse [Chs. 1597–1600].
