Lucien Scutter

Lucien Scutter is the former leader of the Eleventh Vampire Family and the third Vampire King. A martial-arts specialist with absolute blood control, he tests Gary Dem as a possible threat before converting their clash into an alliance against Lupus.

Biography

Testing the Howlers and negotiating an alliance

Lucien enters Slough after subordinate vampires clear civilians from the area and test the Howlers' strength. He regards Gary's rapid growth as a strategic danger and personally fights him to establish whether the Howlers or Lupus represents the greater threat. Gary's successive Lycan forms force Lucien to use blood supplied by nearby vampires and then reveal the King's blood armor, but Lucien stops rather than exploit Gary's exhaustion. The display is both warning and negotiation: he wants Gary to understand the Settlement's remaining power before asking him to deliver special armor to the vampire commanding the Altered Hunters against Lupus. Lucien accepts Gary's condition for cooperation and gives his word that the vampires will not attack the Howlers if Lupus is eliminated. By the last account, Lucien remains Vampire King, approves action against threats such as the Dark Guild, recognizes that Gary has grown beyond his earlier estimate, and leads the vampires away from Earth while maintaining a base between their old and developing new home. Appearance and personality

Lucien has red vampiric eyes and an otherwise human appearance that receives limited detail. He carries himself with calm royal authority, speaks as someone accustomed to being obeyed, and is willing to intimidate a potential ally. He is also a dedicated martial-arts enthusiast: he studies Gary's technique, helped establish the basis of modern vampire martial arts, and requires vampires across lineages to train in close combat. Lucien possesses vampiric speed, strength, healing, blood aura, and longevity; the precise origin and age of his vampire state are not explained in the supplied corpus.
