Ice
Ice is a Mythical Yeti Altered imprisoned for an unnamed serious crime. Guilt leads him to discard his birth name and initially accept a life sentence, but Gary Dem's determination gives him a chance to use his strength differently. After helping Gary escape, Ice joins the Howlers and ultimately dies holding Lupus back so his allies can withdraw.
Biography
A guilty prisoner accepts a second chance
Ice lives apart from the prison gangs, keeping his cell open with frost and protecting weaker prisoners who tolerate the cold around him. He refuses Gary's first invitation to escape because he believes the inmates, including himself, deserve their sentences. Gary nevertheless challenges and defeats him, demonstrating both enough strength to make escape possible and a purpose centered on protecting people outside. Ice chooses to join Gary and Blackjack, helps defeat Warden Synca, shields Gary's feeding from the other prisoners, and prevents escapees from attacking ordinary guards. His actions turn the breakout from simple self-liberation into the start of an attempted moral repayment. (Chapters 831–833 and 885–895)
The Howlers give Ice a place in their inner fighting force. He advises Gary on infiltrating Ruin City, helps assess vampire threats, and trains against Apollo. During that training he admits that “Ice” is a name others gave him after he abandoned his real one out of shame. He explains that extreme transformation pressure awakened his element and teaches Kai that elemental power can eventually be used without transforming. These contributions show a calmer, instructive role beyond the brutal strength that first defined him in prison. (Chapters 1156, 1182–1193, and 1370)
When Lupus overwhelms the Howlers' force, Ice chooses to remain behind rather than let both himself and Apollo die buying the same time. He erects a freezing enclosure, orders Apollo back to the meeting point, and frames his last stand as the best use of the second life Gary gave him. Lupus kills and consumes him, inheriting his ice power; the loss later becomes part of Gary's memory of allies who should have shared his final peace. (Chapters 1435–1436, 1442, 1485, and 1847)
Appearance and personality
Ice is exceptionally tall, broad-shouldered, and heavily muscled, with his head nearly reaching the ceiling of his cell. Despite his size and criminal past, he is usually calm and gentle; his refusal to excuse his own crime shapes both his initial resignation and his later willingness to sacrifice himself. His full Yeti form is larger and covered in thick white fur. (Chapters 831, 1370, and 1435)
Powers and abilities
Mythical Yeti transformation and ice manipulation
Ice's Mythical Altered form supplies exceptional strength, endurance, and cold-based power. He says his elemental ability emerged only after he pushed his transformation beyond its limits; with development, he learns to summon ice without transforming. He can freeze floors and opponents, form shields, clubs, spears, waves, pillars, and immense icebergs, and lower the temperature inside a constructed zone enough to slow a powerful Alpha's muscles. (Chapters 831–833, 887, 1370, and 1435)
His weapons are condensed ice rather than permanent equipment, and he can reshape clubs into thrown spears during an attack. The element supports defense, restraint, range, and battlefield control, but it draws on finite stamina. Strong enemies can shatter his structures, forcing him to replace them, and sustaining the iceberg enclosure leaves him near his limit. His strength and frost can delay Lupus but cannot overcome the Alpha's greater power; after Ice's death, the ability persists only because Lupus consumes him. (Chapters 887, 1370, 1435–1436, and 1442)
