Frank
Frank Hue is a White Rose investigator, bird-type Altered, and the long-serving partner of Sadie. His calmer interviewing manner initially complements Sadie's suspicion, while his later actions show the same underlying resolve: he leaves a compromised branch for Internal Affairs and fights beside Slough's defenders after the White Rose ceases to provide either authority or refuge.
Biography
White Rose investigations and institutional reform
Frank and Sadie take over the construction-site deaths when the evidence indicates an Altered case. Frank is serious and emotionally controlled around the bodies, but in interviews he is the more approachable half of the partnership. When Sadie presses Gary Dem about Billy, Frank keeps the exchange from becoming pure accusation, a division of labor that helps the pair collect information without losing sight of the witness in front of them. Their investigation does not uncover Gary's whole secret, but it establishes Frank as an agent accustomed to interpreting violence that ordinary police cannot handle. (Chapters 7 and 45)
The corruption crisis inside the White Rose changes where Frank places that experience. He moves with Sadie, Kanu, and Elijah into Internal Affairs after the Phoenix-linked leadership is removed, choosing oversight over a return to business as usual. He later offers the Howlers help while explicitly retaining his status as an agent. Once the White Rose is destroyed, however, he and the other former agents have nowhere institutional to return to; Frank remains in Slough rather than abandoning the city whose supernatural conflicts have defined much of his work. (Chapters 970, 1141, 1361, and 1582)
Aerial support in the full-moon war
Frank fights the Lupus invasion as part of Slough's mobile air support. He scouts with Sadie and Crowley, fires hardened feathers from above, and uses a clawed-leg slash at close range. Against an ordinary opening he is precise enough to send a feather into a werewolf's mouth, but the elite Ironfangs and Lupus himself expose the scale gap: Kanu has to hold the Iron-Masked Werewolf back so Frank and the others can escape, and Lupus's shockwave blows apart their later combined attack. Frank nevertheless survives, helps carry the dead after the battle, and stays in Slough with Sadie and Elijah. (Chapters 1390, 1429–1431, 1470–1515, and 1582)
Appearance and personality
Frank is introduced as a handsome middle-aged man with short black hair. At a death scene he appears stern and controlled; during questioning he is notably less abrasive than Sadie. His restraint is not passivity. He accepts the reputational and practical cost of moving into Internal Affairs, and when White Rose authority collapses, he continues doing the protective work without the security of the institution behind it. (Chapters 7, 45, 779, and 970)
Powers and abilities
Bird-type Altered form
Frank's manufactured Altered form grants wings, sustained flight, hardened feathers, clawed legs, and the general physical enhancement associated with Altereds. The source species, serum origin, and transformation cost are not explained. He uses flight for wide-area reconnaissance and rapid repositioning, launches feathers as piercing ranged projectiles, and can slash with his transformed legs when a target closes the distance. A representative precision attack drives a feather into a werewolf's open mouth, while combined volleys with Sadie cover a much larger area. (Chapters 1390, 1429–1431, and 1470–1515)
These abilities work best from altitude and in a team. Powerful werewolves remain capable of weathering the projectiles, forcing the fliers to retreat, or scattering them with area attacks; Frank is not shown defeating an Ironfang or Alpha alone. No evolved form or independent supernatural healing is demonstrated, and the corpus does not establish whether expended feathers immediately regrow. (Chapters 1429–1431 and 1470–1515)
Investigation and field discipline
Frank is trained to secure supernatural crime scenes, interview witnesses, recognize Altered involvement, and coordinate with other agents. His measured tone helps balance Sadie's confrontational approach, while his later aerial reconnaissance shows that his value extends beyond direct combat. (Chapters 7, 45, 779, and 1390)
Relationships
- Sadie: Frank's long-term partner in investigation, Internal Affairs, and aerial combat. Their temperaments differ, but their decisions remain closely aligned through the White Rose's collapse. (Chapters 7–86, 779–970, and 1390–1582)
- Kanu: Frank follows Kanu into Internal Affairs and later withdraws only because Kanu stays behind against the Iron-Masked Werewolf. (Chapters 970 and 1429–1431)
- Gary Dem and the Howlers: Frank first encounters Gary as a witness in a werewolf investigation. He later treats the Howlers as allies and helps defend their city rather than reducing them to an unresolved case. (Chapters 45, 1141, and 1361–1582)
Items
Frank has no finalized configured inventory item. His principal weapons are feathers and talons generated by his Altered body.
