Xox

Xox is a long-lived celestial who cultivates new arrivals and trades in information because he lacks both a following and the strength of the celestial world's fighters. His curiosity makes him an early guide to Quinn, but fear of the Ancient One Celestalon later turns that same information-gathering habit into an infiltration mission against Quinn's settlement. (Chapters 1753–1968 and 2400–2452)

Biography

Guiding new celestials

Xox contacts Quinn under Quinn's celestial designation “BB” and introduces himself as someone who helps newcomers. Appearing as a floating ball of energy in Celestial Space, he explains energy signatures, solar-system orbs, territorial etiquette, and the value of connections before leading Quinn into a group. His help is genuine but transactional: because Xox has no powerful following or exceptional fighting strength, relationships with new celestials are his way to remain relevant. (Chapter 1753; Chapter 2423)

Curiosity soon makes him an observer of Quinn's conflicts. Xox investigates disturbances, eagerly spreads word of Athos's possible death, and stays out of the rush to fight the rampaging celestial B because he knows he is not a combatant. This pattern establishes his niche as witness and commentator rather than enforcer. (Chapters 1768, 1805, and 1808)

Watching the celestial conflicts

Xox builds a friendship with Yongbu through their shared interest in celestial events. He explains the reputations and origins of major combatants, tracks God Slayers and Quinn across planets, and watches unfolding battles closely enough to infer agreements among the participants. His conclusions are often informed but remain interpretations; for example, he assumes Mundus has recruited BB before the full situation is established. (Chapters 1891, 1909, 1918, 1951, and 1968)

His constant conversation produces a reputation as “all-knowing Xox,” someone familiar with planetary history and celestial gossip. By the time others remark that he has disappeared, however, the title reflects information gathering rather than omniscience. The corpus never gives him universal knowledge, and his later uncertainty about Quinn is what makes him vulnerable to Celestalon's order. (Chapter 2400; Chapter 2423)

Celestalon's surveillance mission

Celestalon orders Xox to determine what Quinn is doing. Xox believes failure could erase him rather than merely send him through celestial reincarnation, so he turns to the only person he trusts, Yongbu, while concealing some details of the Ancient One's involvement. He persists for days and even threatens to reveal Yongbu's condition until Yongbu helps him use the Mermerials' alliance with Quinn as a route into the vampire settlement. (Chapters 2423–2424)

Xox infiltrates the delegation in a Mermerial body, then disappears from its tracking and assumes other identities to investigate. Layla and Galen catch him once; held by telekinesis and surrounded by shadow traps, he falsely says Yongbu merely wants to apologise to Quinn. After release he returns in disguise, determined to learn Quinn's location despite the warning. (Chapters 2423, 2430, 2444, and 2446)

Overhearing discussion of Immortui lets Xox form the theory that Quinn entered Immortui's red space. At a tournament he manoeuvres beside Jessica and Andy to extract confirmation, but Galen recognises him. Anger overrides caution: Xox fires celestial energy at Galen and Minny, tries to escape as a worm, and is pinned by shadow chains after returning to his natural ball form. (Chapters 2448 and 2450–2451)

The marked device Celestalon supplied releases a pulse and leaves four Divine Brigade beings protecting Xox. He enters Celestial Space and is pulled directly before Celestalon, where he reports his theory about Quinn and Immortui. Xox is alive in front of the Ancient One at his last appearance, but Celestalon's next plans and Xox's later fate are not shown. (Chapter 2452)

Appearance and personality

Xox's original and preferred body is a large floating ball without limbs. In Celestial Space it behaves expressively, moving as though nodding and even appearing sweaty when excited. For infiltration he forms a tall, slender, feminine-looking Mermerial with pointed ears and light-blue skin, later copying a vampire; these are disguises rather than separate people. (Chapters 1753, 1805, and 2423; Chapter 2451)

He is sociable, inquisitive, excitable, and self-preserving. Xox likes knowing and distributing news but normally avoids direct fighting. Fear of Celestalon makes him persistent and deceptive, while frustration at being exposed pushes him into the reckless attack that compromises his cover. (Chapters 1805–1808, 1909–1951, 2423–2446, and 2451)

Powers and abilities

Celestial existence and energy

Xox can enter Celestial Space, perceive distinct celestial energy signatures, and travel back from the material world through that space. He has existed for millions of years and accumulated substantial celestial energy despite lacking a following. He releases that energy as a concentrated white beam powerful enough to require Galen and Minny together to withstand it. (Chapters 1753, 2423, 2444, and 2451)

Raw reserves do not make Xox a skilled fighter. He explicitly identifies himself as weak and a noncombatant; Layla's telekinesis can hold him, Galen can overpower or expose him, Andy can seize him, and coordinated shadow powers can pin his natural body. His energy attack therefore represents stored power, not demonstrated martial mastery. (Chapters 1808, 2423, 2444, and 2451)

Cellular transformation

Xox can transform his ball-shaped body into other living forms. The change operates at the cellular level rather than as a superficial illusion: his Mermerial and vampire bodies reproduce the copied species down to smell and would withstand physical examination. He can also become a slippery worm to escape a grip. (Chapter 2423; Chapter 2451)

The disguise is not infallible. Xox needs biological access to make an exact vampire copy, and Galen recognises that he is different even when ordinary vampire senses are fooled. Transforming into a worm frees him from Andy's hand but not from subsequent shadow restraints, and returning to his ball body does not break the chains. The corpus does not explain the energy cost, size limits, or full range of forms. (Chapters 2444 and 2451)

Celestalon's marked device

Celestalon gives Xox an item whose embedded white mark releases a large celestial pulse, blinds nearby observers, and brings four Divine Brigade beings to shield him. Their intervention creates the opening in which Xox enters Celestial Space; Celestalon then pulls him into his presence, though the text does not say that this second effect comes from the item. The rescue is external assistance rather than Xox's innate transformation or beam, and the corpus does not name the device, explain whether it is reusable, or identify the exact summoning mechanism. (Chapters 2451–2452)

Relationships

  • Quinn: Xox first guides Quinn as a new celestial and later watches his conflicts. Celestalon's order turns that interest into surveillance, though Xox never confronts Quinn directly during the mission.
  • Yongbu: Yongbu is Xox's closest celestial associate and the person he trusts with his dangerous assignment. Xox pressures him into helping with the infiltration while withholding Celestalon's full involvement.
  • Celestalon: The Ancient One is Xox's superior and source of the surveillance order. Fear of erasure drives Xox to obey, and Celestalon's device ultimately extracts him from capture.
  • Layla and Galen: Layla captures the disguised Xox, while Galen repeatedly detects him beneath otherwise exact transformations. Their resistance forces his mission into open conflict.
  • Minny: Minny joins Galen in blocking Xox's celestial beam and using shadow power to prevent his escape.

Items

No manifest-configured inventory item is assigned to Xox. Celestalon's unnamed marked device is described as mission equipment, but its identity, ownership, and later disposition are not established well enough to catalogue it as Xox's inventory.
