Yongbu

Yongbu is the celestial associated with the Mermerial planet, once worshipped there as a god. He helps Quinn and Sil travel despite celestial prohibitions, later tries to force Quinn's family to reveal his location under Mundus's orders, and finally assists Xox's surveillance mission. (Chapters 1891–1968, 2123–2160, and 2423–2427)

Biography

Watching the God Slayer conflict

Yongbu enters Celestial Space worried that the Ancient Ones will discover he helped both Quinn, then known as BB, and Sil return to Earth. He hides this fear from Xox while joining him to watch the hunters sent against Earth's God Slayers. Their repeated defeats confirm that Yongbu's earlier assistance has placed him on the dangerous side of celestial authority. (Chapters 1891, 1914–1918, and 1951–1968)

He and Xox become regular observers rather than combatants in those encounters. Yongbu knows less celestial history than his companion but contributes firsthand knowledge of the Earth group, and his visible fear increases when Quinn appears stronger. His motivation throughout this phase is self-preservation, not a disclosed commitment to overthrow the Ancient Ones. (Chapters 1914–1918 and 1951–1968)

Confronting Quinn's family

Yongbu later returns to the Mermerial palace while acting on a task from higher celestials. He demands information about Quinn and threatens a council member and Wince when they resist, arguing that the celestial matter outweighs the planet's wishes. Wince's anger also reveals their older conflict: Yongbu once supported the Predators against the royal family, though the corpus does not fully explain why. (Chapters 2123–2136)

Wince's celestial-enhanced water resists him briefly, but Yongbu's stronger vortex drives her through the palace. Layla and Minny then intervene; Layla cuts through one wing and Minny injures his chest. Unwilling to endure more punishment, Yongbu leaves in white light and returns with Mundus, who takes control of the search. Yongbu remains nearby as ordered but is uncertain what role he should play once Mundus departs. (Chapters 2137–2143 and 2160)

Helping Xox infiltrate

Xox later asks Yongbu to help locate Quinn for an Ancient One. Yongbu refuses until Xox persistently follows him and threatens to reveal a private condition; he then uses his old standing with the Mermerials to arrange access to the vampire settlement. In exchange for a diplomatic meeting, Yongbu promises to control the Predators for as long as he lives. (Chapters 2423–2424)

He deliberately defeats only part of a Predator group to demonstrate the protection he can provide and pressure the Mermerial elders. Yongbu warns Xox that Quinn's entire family is dangerous and does not join the infiltration personally. He is alive during this latest confirmed activity; later characters merely repeat Xox's cover story that Yongbu wanted contact, which does not establish any later event in Yongbu's life. Appearance and personality

Yongbu is a large, murky-grey sea-creature-like being with small tentacles around his mouth and great wings that drip water. His eyes glow when he summons celestial power, and the wings can retract into his back. The corpus does not give an exact height or identify a human disguise. (Chapters 2136–2138)

He is anxious around stronger celestial authorities and the Talen family, but proud and domineering toward former worshippers. Yongbu complains about lost respect and resorts to threats when challenged, yet he knows when to retreat and warns Xox against repeating his mistakes. Their friendship is genuine enough that Xox trusts him, though blackmail is needed to secure his cooperation. (Chapters 1891, 2136–2138, and 2423–2424)

Powers and abilities

Water manipulation

Yongbu creates expanding waves, hand-thrown water vortices, a stronger dark vortex from his mouth, and rapid fist-sized water projectiles that crack through ice. He can draw on nearby water and overpower Wince's trident attacks. His wings repel ordinary water jets, while the vortices provide both ranged force and sustained pressure. (Chapters 2136–2138)

His control is not absolute: Wince can temporarily split or block attacks with her own water and celestial energy, and Layla's special sword parts a vortex without resistance. The corpus does not give a maximum water volume, effective range, or cost. (Chapters 2136–2138)

Celestial body and energy

Celestial energy suppresses ordinary attacks around Yongbu, strengthens his water, and allows minor wounds around his mouth to heal quickly. His wings shield him from attacks that would harm most beasts, and he can disappear into white light, travel through Celestial Space, and return with Mundus. (Chapters 2137–2138)

Celestial energy can still be overcome by comparable energy, God Slayer weapons, or sufficient force. Layla severs a wing, Minny's celestial-enhanced punch burns his chest, and Yongbu retreats rather than test his recovery further. No reincarnation, condition for maintaining celestial status, or ultimate form is established. (Chapter 2138)

Predator control and planetary influence

Yongbu can influence or suppress the Predators threatening the Mermerials and uses selective intervention to demonstrate his value. The chapters establish the result but do not explain whether this is mind control, intimidation, territorial authority, or direct combat, so no more specific mechanism can be assigned. (Chapters 2424 and 2427)

Relationships

• Xox: Xox is Yongbu's closest celestial associate. They observe conflicts together, and Yongbu reluctantly helps his friend's surveillance mission after sustained pressure.
• Quinn: Yongbu once helps Quinn travel but later searches for him under higher orders. Fear of Quinn and his family shapes many of Yongbu's later choices.
• Wince: Wince regards Yongbu as a failed god who supported her enemies. Their clash ends with Yongbu overpowering her before Quinn's family intervenes.
• Layla and Minny: They wound and drive Yongbu away when he threatens the family, teaching him to warn Xox against the Talens.
• Mundus: Mundus is the higher celestial whose search Yongbu supports. Yongbu yields once the messenger arrives and follows his direction.
