Shinto

Shinto is the champion of the Chrono and the brother of Hinto. Fear, guilt, and hope that Hinto may still live keep him serving Immortui as a guard, even after he witnesses Chrono prisoners being fed to werewolves. Once forced to confront his brother's death and his own complicity, Shinto joins the resistance and ultimately gives his life and body to strengthen Chris against Unzoku. Biography

Guarding Immortui's prisoners

Shinto guards Unzoku's pit and has killed many people attempting to escape. He knows the Chrono prisoners are being used as food, but fear of Immortui and the possibility that his missing brother Hinto remains alive keep him from rebelling. When Russ manifests a false Hinto, Shinto's hope overcomes suspicion and draws him into fighting Unzoku, exposing how strongly that unresolved loss controls his choices. (Chapters 2396–2399)

Accepting Hinto's death and changing sides

Calva, Sil, and Pultra later seek Shinto as a potential champion ally. The Hinto deception can no longer sustain him: Shinto recognises that the replica was false and that his brother is dead. The others do not erase his responsibility for the Chrono deaths, but offer a way to act against the system he helped preserve. Shinto accepts because continued obedience can neither restore Hinto nor excuse the people he allowed to die. (Chapters 2468–2474)

Shinto then protects Quinn during recovery, helps train him for Immortui's multiple styles, and joins the missions against divine beings and demon kings. His knowledge of the demon realm and black flames gives the group a distinct offensive tool, although he remains aware that the champions cannot overpower the strongest demon kings directly. Sacrifice against Unzoku

When Unzoku absorbs Tenbris and overwhelms the group, Shinto offers Chris the one resource still available: his own body. He explains that he cannot undo the innocent Chrono deaths or recover Hinto, but can make those lives matter by enabling resistance. Shinto kills himself with his axe, allowing Chris's consumption power to absorb his enhanced physique and black flames. Chris then obtains the blood needed from Unzoku; this transfer confirms Shinto's death rather than a transformation or survival. (Chapters 2517–2520)

Appearance and personality

Shinto is presented as a powerful Chrono champion carrying two axes. The corpus does not provide a sufficiently stable description of his height, skin, clothing, or facial features to reconstruct them without invention. He initially appears severe and resigned, but that posture conceals fear and grief. Powers and abilities

Champion physique and axe combat

Shinto possesses the extreme strength, speed, and durability expected of a champion. He fights with two axes, can cut through blood constructs and divine beings, and coordinates close attacks with other champions. His body is valuable enough that Chris gains additional physical strength and stamina after consuming it. Nevertheless, Shinto cannot defeat Unzoku at full power, and his final contribution depends on transferring that body to someone with a compatible consumption ability. Black flames

Shinto coats his axes in black fire and projects the flames along the ground or through a cut. They burn persistently, damage powerful enemies, and can force Unzoku to remove affected flesh rather than let the fire spread. The flames are not ordinary heat, but the corpus does not define their fuel, duration, or precise relation to Hinto's similar power. After Shinto's death, Chris inherits them through consumption; later uses belong to Chris, not a surviving Shinto. (Chapters 2396–2399, 2492–2500, and 2518–2520)

Relationships

• Hinto: Hinto is Shinto's brother and the emotional basis of his service and later crisis. Russ's imitation exploits Shinto's hope, while accepting Hinto's death helps him choose rebellion. Hinto has no configured generated page, so his name remains unlinked. (Chapters 2396–2399 and 2468–2474)
