Bai Qiulin

Bai Qiulin is a former gambler whose death leaves him a one-armed ghost and whose afterlife gives him an unexpected profession. Initially cold, theatrical, and self-protective, he becomes one of the House of Horrors’ most dependable employees. Consuming Xiong Qing’s heart carries him through Half Red and into Red Specter status, while recovering his own severed arm finally repairs the personal wound that borrowed power could not heal.

Biography

A ghost actor’s second life

Bai Qiulin first presents himself to visitors as a thin, irritable man who has entered the House of Horrors to relieve stress. He keeps his left hand in his pocket, lets suspicion gather around him, and then uses the empty sleeve, snapped neck, and bloodied body to turn the Coffin Village tour into a layered performance. Rather than simply charging at the group, he lies, redirects blame toward Ol’ Zhou and Duan Yue, and persuades a frightened visitor to choose the real ghost as her guide. His debut shows both his acting skill and the manipulative intelligence that makes him more useful than a conventional jump scare. (Chapters 347–355)

The performance conceals a history Bai cannot entirely escape. In life he was a gambler, ruffian, and debtor whose creditors cut off his hand and kept it, yet his guilt toward his mother remains a redeeming center strong enough to leave a persistent blood stain on his empty sleeve. During the underground morgue expedition, Chen Ge recognizes that stain as potential for Red Specter evolution. Bai then helps Men Nan attack Xiong Qing and, after Xu Yin destroys the stronger ghost, reluctantly consumes Xiong Qing’s remains. The ordeal burns through him for more than an hour, strengthens his fragile body, and dyes his heart red, giving him a path forward built from another Specter’s power rather than his own completed resentment. Reluctant protector in Li Wan City

After the morgue, Bai returns to acting as an ordinary visitor inside dangerous scenarios, concealing the altered heart in his chest while judging strangers with his customary suspicion. His role in the House of Horrors remains partly transactional: Yan Danian’s Comic gives him shelter and Chen Ge gives him work, while Bai performs, scouts, and fights when summoned. Repeated missions beside Xu Yin, Ol’ Zhou, and Duan Yue gradually make that arrangement into a community, even though Bai continues to cover concern with aloofness and complains when a mission exceeds what he considers sensible. The battle against the shadow in Li Wan City forces him to choose whether that community matters more than self-preservation. While Greater Red Specters hold the shadow in place, Bai voluntarily crosses a battlefield filled with curses, grabs Chen Ge and the employee-filled backpack, and helps carry them out. Blood spreads across his clothing until he can release roughly thirty percent of Xiong Qing’s strength, marking him as a Half Red Specter. Chen Ge’s sincere thanks embarrass him because he cannot remember receiving such gratitude before. Later, Bai joins the employees around Chen Ge’s birthday and takes dangerous assignments as the group’s strongest currently available regular worker, even though his borrowed advancement leaves him weaker than a naturally formed Half Red. The School of the Afterlife

By the time the House of Horrors enters the School of the Afterlife, Bai has consumed Xiong Qing’s heart deeply enough to stand one step from Red Specter status and weave a replacement arm from blood vessels. He guards Chen Ge beside Xu Yin, senses the malice inside the non-smiler’s mirror, and carries that mirror through the campus after it is wrapped to limit its influence. He also clears forbidden rooms, notices physical clues others overlook, and follows Chen Ge even when the school’s shifting boundaries make retreat uncertain. (Chapters 844–851, 864–880)

The school gives Bai something more important than additional prey. Chen Ge’s promise that he will not discard the displaced students strengthens Bai’s own sense of belonging, while continued combat turns the former gambler into a practiced protector. By Chapter 892 he is explicitly described as having become a Red Specter, though still weaker than Xu Yin because the heart he consumed was not his own. When the school collapses, Bai carries the injured Chen Ge, guards the area around Chang Wenyu’s remains, and returns to the House of Horrors still responsible for the dangerous mirror. His loyalty is no longer a bargain for shelter; he remains because the employees have become his people. (Chapters 854–907)

A professional employee and a restored self

Back in ordinary operations, Bai becomes one of the senior workers who trains new spirits, monitors four-star scenarios, reports on visitors, and handles errands that require both discretion and Red Specter strength. He describes his goal plainly: he no longer wants to drift as the gambler who believed the world had abandoned him, but to become a professional haunted-house worker. Chen Ge answers by locating Bai’s severed arm, still used as a casino boss’s intimidation prop, and lets him reclaim it himself. The recovery fills the crack left by consuming Xiong Qing, strengthens his presence, and gives emotional reality to the blood-vessel limb he had previously treated as a substitute. The Cursed Hospital’s false Xin Hai temporarily disrupts Chen Ge’s access to his employees, and a stray fragment of Bai’s name is displaced onto the white cat while Chen’s memory remains sealed. Once the counterattack begins, Bai returns through the mobile blood door hidden on Chen’s back, carrying the broken oil painting needed to bring the Painter into the hospital. That delivery helps turn the final battle against the hospital director and shows the mature form of Bai’s role: he is not merely summoned muscle but a trusted operative who can retrieve a critical ally across door-world boundaries. Appearance and personality

Bai is a thin adult man whose missing left hand defines both his first disguise and his supernatural form. He normally keeps the empty sleeve tucked into a pocket, carries his neck at a slightly unnatural angle, and can reveal the catastrophic injuries of his death: a snapped neck, mangled body, and blood running from his mouth and nose. As his resentment deepens, blood spreads over his clothes and he learns to weave a temporary arm and fingers from blood vessels. (Chapters 347–355, 447, 676–677, 844–845)

He is guarded, cynical, observant, and a gifted improvisational actor. His harsh life makes him quick to suspect outsiders and appreciative of stable work, but his apparent selfishness gradually gives way to embarrassment at praise, protectiveness toward weaker employees, and pride in professional standards. Bai rarely becomes openly sentimental; instead, his growth appears through practical choices—carrying a dangerous object, returning for Chen Ge, training students, or accepting that the House of Horrors is the new life he once believed impossible. Spectral acting and deception

Bai combines a ghost’s ability to reveal death injuries with disciplined visitor manipulation. He can pass as a living participant, conceal his missing hand, alter the timing of his manifestation, and sustain contradictory stories long enough to make visitors turn on one another. His acting is especially effective in ensemble scenarios with Ol’ Zhou and Duan Yue. This is performance rather than mind control: observant visitors can become suspicious, and the illusion depends on staging, timing, and fear. (Chapters 347–355, 466–481)

Xiong Qing’s heart and blood-vessel body

Consuming Xiong Qing’s destroyed heart supplies Bai with resentment powerful enough to transform him. The borrowed heart first strengthens his body and dyes his chest red, then lets him release a portion of Xiong Qing’s power and eventually form an arm from blood vessels. Because the heart is not truly his, his Red Specter state remains weaker than Xu Yin’s heart-completed evolution. Combat, threat sensing, and field support

Bai fights directly with spectral strength and blood vessels, carries injured allies, and transports objects that would endanger living companions. He senses the non-smiler’s concentrated malice through its mirror even when he cannot clearly see the entity inside. Experience from Li Wan City and the School of the Afterlife makes him a cautious scout and guard rather than a reckless attacker; he recognizes threats, points out clues, and supports Chen Ge’s plans while stronger Red Specters engage the most dangerous enemies.
