Yan Danian

Yan Danian is a ghost-seeing comic artist whose work is ignored during his life and becomes extraordinary after his death. Bound to a comic whose pages can house spirits and manifest drawings, he gives Chen Ge’s growing supernatural family a portable refuge and a way to enter dangerous missions together.

Biography

The artist no one believed

Yan Danian lives in poverty while drawing the ghosts he can see, receiving little recognition beyond the care of an elderly landlady who treats him like a son. His comic accumulates portraits and blank pages able to accept spirits. After death he becomes a rare Lesser Red Specter bound to that work. Chen Ge’s attention offers him the audience and companionship he wanted, although his trust is initially conditional and his strongest ability remains locked behind an unfulfilled wish. Shelter for the House of Horrors

Chen carries Yan Danian’s comic through the Ghost Stories Society, Coffin Village, Li Wan City, and later missions. Yan draws spirits into its pages, transports employees who could not otherwise travel safely, and manifests figures or spaces when a drawing has enough emotional force. Fear of dominant Red Specters does not disappear, but repeated deployments turn him from an isolated artist into the quiet logistics specialist of a very large household. Artist of fulfilled promises

As more displaced spirits enter the comic, Yan’s work becomes more than storage. Chapter 705 identifies the deeper principle that promises or strongly realized drawings can become real through his art. He continues housing children and employees through the School of the Afterlife, park rivalry, Ghost Fetus, and hospital conflicts. Recognition arrives not through fame in the living art world, but through the many people whose safety depends on the spaces he creates. (Chapters 683–709, 904–1211)

Appearance and personality

Yan Danian appears as an unassuming, worn-down artist rather than an imposing combat ghost. The comic and drawing tools define his visual identity more strongly than clothing or physique. He is timid around stronger specters, sensitive to rejection, and reluctant to gamble his pages without protection, yet he is also gentle toward homeless spirits. As trust grows, caution becomes stewardship rather than withdrawal. (Chapters 299–303, 332–377, 640–709)

Affinity with specters

The black phone states that Yan’s misery can evoke pity and reduce hostility from some Baleful Specters. This affinity is not reliable against Red Specters and does not function as mind control. It reflects the same emotional quality that lets frightened or displaced ghosts tolerate the shelter he offers. (Chapter 303)

Spirit Drawing and comic manifestation

Yan can draw Baleful Specters into his comic, house many non-Red spirits in its pages, transport them, and later manifest drawn people or scenes. Success is not guaranteed, Red Specters initially exceed the stated capture limit, and powerful residents can intimidate him. The comic’s effective capacity is large but never assigned a precise number. (Chapters 303, 317–318, 332–371, 553–555, 640–676)

Promises made real

His later revealed ability gives unusual force to completed promises and deeply realized drawings. Its presentation remains more thematic than numerical: the text does not define a fixed cost, duration, or maximum scale. Yan’s effectiveness therefore depends on what he has drawn, the emotional truth behind it, and the cooperation of those housed within his work. (Chapter 705)
