Humbly Gentleman

Humbly Gentleman is the Cryomancer guild master of The Dominators, an early rival whose attempts to buy, seize, or outmaneuver Zhang Yang repeatedly turn into public defeats. (Chapters 27, 78, 266, and 395)

Biography

Lone Desert Smoke and Soaring Swords

Humbly Gentleman enters the story as an abrasive guild master already frustrated by The Dominators' failed dungeon attempts. He berates subordinates for a wipe and treats Sky High's progress as a personal affront, but his practical need soon outweighs his pride: when The Dominators cannot clear Marzerway's Lair, he approaches Zhang Yang with a paid partnership and recruitment offer. The request follows an earlier wager that cost him 20,000 gold, and his resentment at being refused makes Zhang suspect that The Dominators may have arranged a later raid disruption; the corpus never confirms that suspicion. He eventually pays Zhang 50,000 gold for one hundred Beginner Anti-Shadow Potions and obtains a Hardcore clear, only to discover that Crimson Rage and Sky High received the potions first and took the more valuable first-clear places. (Chapters 27, 78, 83, and 88–100)

His rivalry becomes more openly coercive as valuable guild resources appear. Humbly Gentleman tries to seize a Land Lease encounter and later orders Zhang to sell him a Level 2 Guild Upgrade Order for 10,000 gold, threatening retaliation when refused. Yet he cannot commit the million-gold market price without consulting his sponsor, exposing a gap between his swagger and his financial authority. During Sky Shaman's field-boss battle, he arrives under the pretense of helping, turns The Dominators against Sky Shaman, and attempts to monopolize both the boss and its drops. His attention remains fixed on whether Zhang is hiding nearby, allowing Zhang to manipulate the boss and the surrounding players until The Dominators' opportunism collapses into another defeat. (Chapters 128, 175–177, and 182–188)

Humbly Gentleman then escalates from resource disputes to organized hunting. He ambushes Zhang at Wild Boar Ridge with more than thirty elites, but Zhang destroys the group; a later pursuit sends hundreds of Spellcasters after him, only for Serena to kill them and leave Humbly Gentleman imprisoned. With much of The Dominators jailed and the rest scattered without his command, Lone Desert Smoke inflicts repeated losses on the leaderless guild. He remains calculating enough to delay entering the first Territory battle in hopes that other forces will exhaust one another, but the massed competition prevents his late arrival from securing the Territory Command Order. (Chapters 231–236 and 244–245)

The Soaring Swords tournament supplies a direct test of his personal combat. Listed as a Level 60 Cryomancer, Humbly Gentleman boasts that his party will end Zhang's run, but becomes distracted by Whitey, slows his own cast timing, and loses with his team 0–2. He later leads The Dominators and three allied guilds against Lone Desert Smoke's Mining Cave; bunching his forces around Zhang and Han Ying Xue makes them vulnerable to large-area attacks, and Zhang kills him from underground before he can use Ice Frame, causing his troops' morale to collapse. A subsequent Mining Cave offensive exploits Imperial Sky's simultaneous territory conquest, but Mountain Mover delays the attackers until Lone Desert Smoke's main force arrives. After Zhang's guild hunts both enemy organizations, The Dominators abandons further retaliation. Humbly Gentleman is still personally resentful when Zhang wins the first World Championship, although he also shares the wider happiness at China's victory. (Chapters 265–267, 357–358, 394–395, and 636)

Appearance and personality

The corpus does not give Humbly Gentleman's real-world appearance or a detailed avatar description. His conduct is consistently proud, acquisitive, and self-entitled: he assumes that money or threats should give him priority, conceals humiliating defeats, and reacts angrily when Zhang succeeds. He is also opportunistic and suspicious, preferring alliances, ambushes, and exhausted opponents to a fair confrontation. Those tendencies impair his judgment—he becomes so preoccupied with Zhang's possible presence that he neglects the boss loot he is trying to secure, and distraction later extends a two-second spell cast to three seconds. As a low-defense caster, he generally commands from outside the front line rather than expose himself directly. (Chapters 27, 78, 100, 186–187, 232, 267, 358, and 365)

Abilities and gameplay

Humbly Gentleman is explicitly listed as a Level 60 Cryomancer during Soaring Swords. His build combines cast-time ice damage, emergency repositioning, a stationary invulnerability, and close-range control, making him dangerous when his party protects his casting space but vulnerable when pressure or distraction disrupts his sequencing. Earlier encounters also show him using Fire Ball and relying heavily on guild-scale concentrations of Spellcasters. (Chapters 231, 234, 266–267, and 358)

Cryomancer skills

Frost Dragon is a damaging spell with a normal two-second cast in the demonstrated match. Humbly Gentleman takes three seconds while watching Whitey and still lands a heavy hit on Wei Yan Er, showing both its offensive value and its vulnerability to lost concentration. Flash Out lets him evade a charge and reposition instantly, but moving outside a Guardian's protection can expose him to follow-up attacks. Ice Ring freezes nearby targets; he catches Zhang, Wei Yan Er, and Whitey together to create an escape window for a teammate, although the control can be removed by appropriate dispelling or resistance effects. (Chapters 266–267)

Ice Barrier, also rendered as Ice Frame, is his principal life-saving skill. It places him in an invincible but stationary ice defense and can clear control when activated, after which he must choose when to dismiss it and resume fighting. Because it is a finite emergency response rather than passive protection, forcing it early consumes his best defense. Zhang later kills Humbly Gentleman with three large hits before he can activate Ice Frame, explicitly choosing an ultimate attack so the Cryomancer cannot stall or escape. (Chapters 267 and 358)

Durability and command

His defenses remain those of a fragile caster. At Wild Boar Ridge he has 8,200 maximum HP, with an initial Holy Shield absorbing only the first part of Zhang's attack. By the Mining Cave battle his mounted total reaches about 28,000 HP, including roughly 11,000 from a Gray-Silver mount, but he still dies before reacting to three attacks of about 10,000 damage each. His survivability therefore depends on distance, allies, Flash Out, and timely Ice Barrier rather than sustained damage absorption. (Chapters 232 and 358)

As a guild commander, Humbly Gentleman can assemble elite ambushes, mass ranged formations, and multi-guild offensives. He correctly recognizes that hundreds of simultaneous Spellcaster attacks could overwhelm a single defender and repeatedly chooses timing or terrain intended to deny Lone Desert Smoke a fair response. His command nevertheless has clear limits: tightly packed formations magnify area damage, troops lose morale when he dies, the guild performs poorly while he is jailed, and his plans repeatedly underestimate Zhang's mobility or Mountain Mover's delaying tactics. (Chapters 234–236, 244, 357–358, and 394)

Relationships

  • Zhang Yang: His principal rival and the repeated target of recruitment, purchases, threats, ambushes, and guild offensives. Zhang profits from Humbly Gentleman's needs, defeats him in direct combat, and turns several of his large operations against him. (Chapters 78–100, 175–188, 231–236, 267, and 358)
  • Sky Shaman: A rival guild master whom Humbly Gentleman claims to assist during a boss fight before ordering The Dominators to attack Sky High and seize control of the encounter. (Chapters 182–188)
  • Snow Seeker: Another major guild leader competing for dungeon progress and valuable orders. Zhang deliberately supplies her before Humbly Gentleman, ensuring Crimson Rage has the chance to beat The Dominators to the Marzerway first clear. (Chapters 89–90 and 175)
  • Mountain Mover: The strategist who frustrates The Dominators' second Mining Cave offensive by kiting its much larger alliance until reinforcements arrive. (Chapters 394–395)
  • Wei Yan Er: An opponent in the Soaring Swords match. Frost Dragon hits her heavily, but she and Zhang continue pressuring his party until The Dominators loses the series. (Chapters 266–267)
  • Liu Wei and One Sword Stroke: Fellow enemies of Lone Desert Smoke whose guilds coordinate simultaneous attacks with The Dominators. All three leaders later hide within protected walls during Zhang's retaliatory campaign. (Chapters 394–395)

Items

  • Beginner Anti-Shadow Potions: Humbly Gentleman buys one hundred bottles from Zhang for 50,000 gold and uses them to lead The Dominators through the Hardcore Main Wing of Marzerway's Nest, but the delayed delivery costs the guild a first-clear placement. (Chapters 89–90 and 100)
  • Gray-Silver mount: An unnamed mount that contributes about 11,000 HP to his 28,000 mounted total during the Mining Cave battle. Its mobility does not save him from Zhang's rapid underground attack. (Chapter 358)
  • Yellow-Gold boots: A pair of boots dropped when Zhang kills him at the Mining Cave. The corpus does not supply their name or attributes. (Chapter 358)
