The Right Arm

The Right Arm is an Aegis office rather than one continuous person. Its holder manages cities, containment, research, offensive forces, half of the Protectors and Agents, and much of the public work that sustains belief in the Champion. Named holders include Byron Inferno, Greed while disguised as Zandur, and Leonard Spark; a still later holder is not personally named. (Chapters 490, 672, 830–835, and 924)

Biography

Byron Inferno and the operational office

Before a holder appears directly, Simon explains that the Right Arm supervises city management, containment, research, and offensive forces; his own effort to contain Envy falls under that branch. Byron Inferno later reports as the contemporary Right Arm with an authoritative but encouraging voice. He pinpoints the Eternal Hunger while recognizing that simply killing it would remove the deterrent restraining the False Hope, showing the office's pressure to balance world-level threats instead of pursuing isolated victories. Byron dies during the subsequent era of battles, and the title passes onward. (Chapters 490, 672, 810, and 834)

Zandur's compromised succession

Byron's last wishes make Zandur, the Juggernaut, his successor. The appointment appears reasonable because Zandur has been the old holder's most talented student and projects the powerful public image Aegis expects. In fact, Zandur is Greed, a Specter that has maintained the disguise long enough to manipulate colleagues and pass ordinary safeguards. Nick's new test exposes the infiltration, forcing Greed to surrender and leaving the office vacant again. The episode demonstrates that title succession does not establish identity continuity and that institutional trust can itself become a feeding route. (Chapters 830–834)

Leonard Spark and later succession

Bieronymus Hosch declines the vacant position because he is a defender rather than a commander, while other Shields lack either the temperament or inspiring image required. Aegis chooses Leonard Spark, a white-haired support Extractor who soothes injuries and anxiety, refills allies' Zephyx, and radiates confidence. Leonard becomes a Shield through Greed, maintains a peaceful public face despite immense suffering, and later helps capture Death. Traded to Nick with the Inferno, he joins the underground resistance and accepts erasure while seeding the Champion's doubt. By Chapter 924 another unnamed Right Arm has succeeded him, confirming that the office continues after Leonard's death. (Chapters 834–846, 901–910, and 924)

Appearance and personality

The office has no single appearance or personality. Byron sounds authoritative and encouraging; Zandur appears tall, confident, and casually smiling; Leonard is thin, white-haired, warmly smiling, and deliberately reassuring. The variation is functional: the Right Arm must inspire public faith as well as command operations, so personal image affects selection even when another candidate is stronger or more experienced. Abilities and Zephyx

Abilities belong to holders, not the title. Byron combines Shield-level combat power with world-scale tracking and threat analysis. Greed-as-Zandur supplies Juggernaut strength and exceptional disguise. Leonard can soothe physical injury and mental distress, grant confidence and calm, refill others' Zephyx at personal cost, and later fights as an Early Shield. Institutional authority remains consistent across them: operational command, city visits, containment leadership, and sustaining belief in the Champion. (Chapters 490, 672, 834–846, and 901–906)

• New Champion: The Right Arm serves as the Champion's public face and operational voice, helping preserve the faith that empowers him. (Chapters 834 and 901)
• Greed: Greed briefly occupies the office as Zandur, making the title itself part of Aegis's infiltration crisis. (Chapters 830–834)
• Bieronymus Hosch: The Wall serves under the Right Arm but declines succession because he lacks interest in leadership and public administration. (Chapters 830 and 834)
• Inferno: The Inferno serves under the office; Leonard later enters Nick's resistance and dies beside him. (Chapters 830, 905–906, and 924)
• Nick: Nick exposes one false holder, verifies Leonard, bargains for Leonard's transfer, and uses the former holder's sacrifice in the resistance plan. (Chapters 831–835 and 905–924)
