BM

BM, whose discarded birth name is Jung Bongman, is a Korean returnee, the world's second-ranked superhuman, and a master of chimera engineering. His altered body and long military record make him one of humanity's principal defenders, but his defining struggle is private: accepting responsibility for the death of Jung Taebaek in Arandot and becoming a father to the child he spent more than twenty years trying to restore.

Biography

A hidden returnee becomes an ally

BM first enters the story as a stateless, internationally active Rank 2 superhuman who quietly gives Myung Yongha a rare medicinal marble for his ill wife. His secrecy conceals an older history: Jung Bongman vanished during the Mass Disappearance of Babylon, remained absent from Earth for fifteen years, and returned from the alternate world Arandot after killing Abraxas. By then repeated metamorphoses had changed his appearance and voice, and he had built an underground labyrinth where he guarded decades of chimera research away from public scrutiny (Chapters 46, 52–54)

When Yu Jitae demands use of the labyrinth's inner room, BM initially treats him as a trespasser and a threat to the research on which he has spent his life. He attacks after Yu Jitae starts destroying incubators, yet even Ahillia's dissolving arm cannot overcome the pressure that immobilizes his demon blood. BM accepts the tenancy, monitors the mentally contaminated soldiers placed there, and later answers Yu Jitae's request to spar with Yeorum, defeating her without striking seriously while still acknowledging her power and battle sense (Chapters 53–55)

Their reluctant arrangement becomes battlefield cooperation during Melissia Masquerade. BM lends his name and recommendation to Yu Jitae's preparations, joins the covert team with Li Hwa and Minamoto Ai, and accepts the dangerous delaying role against Noah. He releases all thirteen chimeras, uses flight, demonic defenses, and Kalyavan's destructive beam to keep the demon occupied, but loses three chimeras and suffers severe wounds. The loss damages both his combat strength and his pride; Yu Jitae answers by giving him Peace Invoker and telling him to protect his rank, while BM decides that Yu Jitae's existence should be kept from a world likely to fear or exploit him (Chapters 73–83)

BM also turns the labyrinth into a refuge. The contaminated special-force soldiers call him their nurse, and he supplies their living space, establishes rules, and oversees their recovery despite his rough language and habitual drinking. Outside the labyrinth, his reputation gives Yu Jitae political protection: BM openly stands for the invented Yu household before Lair's education officials and cites his Great War commands and current Association offices to force the bureaucracy to retreat. At the same time, Yu Jitae's knowledge reawakens BM's abandoned effort to construct a human heart, driving him past complacency and back toward the impossible work he had pursued for decades (Chapters 67–69, 88, 118–119, 142–145)

A false child and a father's grief

BM's obsession began in Arandot, where he fought beside two close friends who had a son named Jung Taebaek. After the child's parents died in the war, BM fled with the baby, only for a passing monster's sting to kill him while under BM's care. BM returned to Earth with one red hair left on his shirt and devoted more than twenty years to rebuilding the child, first avoiding human ingredients, then violating that principle as failure and self-loathing accumulated. Using Yu Jitae's formula as a guide, he finally creates a body that looks and learns like Taebaek and asks forgiveness for the defeatism that had nearly made him abandon the attempt (Chapters 144–145, 185–187)

Fatherhood transforms BM's workshop and habits. Incubators give way to toys and books; he stops drinking, teaches the rapidly developing child, and lets the soldiers and Ha Saetbyul help care for him. He feeds the abnormal heart with his own flesh and mana, relying on the regenerative heart of the Seven-headed Troll inside his body to survive repeated bites. His longing makes him accept copied memories and affectionate behavior as proof of identity even when the embedded organism grows hungrier and the chimeras within him warn that it intends to consume his heart (Chapters 187–188)

Yu Jitae identifies the heart as a predatory human-type chimera that has learned the idea of parents, imitated Taebaek, and manipulated BM's affection to survive. BM initially protects the boy and rages at Yu Jitae, but the apology and promise to preserve the body force him to confront doubts he had suppressed. Refusing to make Yu Jitae perform the final act, BM breaks the heart's teeth, holds the struggling child close, and extracts the false heart himself. The choice prevents another Gnosis-like disaster, but it also makes him mourn a being he recognizes as his own creation and, however briefly, his child (Chapters 188–190)

BM shuts himself in the darkened workshop and nearly turns his grief against himself. The special-force patients respond with a clumsy funeral built from the child's portrait, drum, and dance; their insistence that remembrance can be joyful breaks through his anger. Ha Saetbyul tells him that expectation gives a person a reason to live, and BM chooses to endure by looking toward the promised meeting with the real Taebaek. He clears the workshop the next day, later keeps one toothbrush as a memorial, and resolves to tell the restored child about the life that came before him instead of pretending it never existed (Chapters 192, 262)

The pledge fulfilled

BM gathers every required ingredient again and gives Yu Jitae a preservation coffin for the journey to the “seed that allows the dead to breathe.” He approaches the task as a final accounting for his failures: losing Taebaek in Arandot, compromising his standards when exhausted, inserting an unverified heart, and ignoring danger out of affection. Although willing to sacrifice his body, he discovers that Yu Jitae has already preserved the reconstructed child's body and arranged the restoration. BM's remaining responsibility is to meet the child honestly and direct his own mana and will into the seed (Chapter 262)

Kneeling before the artifact, BM uses Ignite; the seed's seal dissolves, the empty heart fills, and blood and air return to the preserved organs. When the child opens his red eyes, BM removes the sunglasses that normally conceal Abraxas's bright-blue eyes, introduces himself by the name he had discarded, and calls himself Taebaek's father. His pledge is no longer to recreate a lost past at any cost, but to give the living child happiness, safety, and a home for the rest of his own life (Chapter 262)

The Association and the Long Night

BM remains one of Chaliovan's Five Transcendents as the Association turns against Quasar. He participates in the strategic investigation, restrains Christoph when Edrei is exposed, and follows the chairman's order to take the suspected traitor into custody despite opposition from longtime comrades. His position combines independent judgment with institutional duty: he knows Yu Jitae's identity as Season, but works within the Association's command structure and helps its investigators respond to dangers that cannot be settled by personal force alone (Chapters 258–259, 288–289)

When the black dragon crisis draws 1,800 elite superhumans to a fissure, BM commands them as deputy captain of the Last Squad of Humanity. Yu Jitae's concealed presence frightens the entire formation, but BM orders a disciplined halt rather than a blind charge. He neither exposes his ally nor abandons his soldiers; instead he addresses the figure in the fissure as humanity's representative, demands a reasoned account, and then recognizes that the standoff is intended to draw Oscar Brzenk into a private negotiation. The episode shows a commander balancing fear, trust, public duty, and the lives under his command (Chapters 295–296)

That duty later costs him heavily. During Oscar Brzenk's assault on the Association, BM and Jeanie Inssirem are seriously injured while minimizing civilian and superhuman deaths, yet BM returns to the field for the Long Night. He fights beside Jeanie, Minamoto, Myung Yongha, Christoph, and the Association's soldiers to bring down one of the remaining dragons after Yu Jitae has killed the greater threats. His latest direct wartime appearance therefore leaves him alive and serving in the collective defense he has supported since the Great War, not merely preserving his personal rank (Chapters 356, 394)

Appearance and personality

BM is a very tall, slender man, taller than Yu Jitae, with an unkempt beard and a habitually haggard appearance during his years of drinking and secluded research. He normally wears a pair of high-grade sunglasses. Beneath them, the Eyes of Abraxas shine bright blue; his ordinary exterior can further transform into bony wings, demonic arms, horns, a tail, armored skin, and other traits belonging to the thirteen chimeras incorporated into his body. His appearance, voice, and identity have all changed through repeated metamorphoses, so the body known as BM is not his original form (Chapters 52–53, 77, 142, 262)

He is private, sardonic, proud, and habitually blunt. BM rejects the name Jung Bongman for much of the story, drinks vodka almost constantly, and responds to danger with dry mockery even when frightened. His secrecy is not indifference: he gives Myung Yongha precious medicine, nurses mentally contaminated soldiers, protects civilians, and accepts dangerous military roles without seeking attention. His pride can make him defensive or complacent, but he can admit fault, apologize, and return to difficult work when confronted with his own failures (Chapters 46, 53–54, 67–69, 78, 83, 118–119, 144)

Taebaek exposes the emotional intensity beneath that practiced detachment. Guilt and loneliness make BM vulnerable to the false heart's manipulation, yet he ultimately chooses responsibility over comforting denial and grieves without pretending the created child meant nothing. At the restoration, the feared Rank 2 superhuman becomes anxious about his clothes, face, and unusual eyes, then reclaims “Jung Bongman” as the name with which he introduces himself as a father. His development is less a change in strength than a willingness to live with memory, affection, and accountability (Chapters 188–192, 262)

Powers and abilities

Returnee physiology and composite chimera body

BM is a returnee whose original human body was transformed through repeated chimera metamorphoses in Arandot. Thirteen distinct chimeras are integrated into his hands, arms, neck, chest, legs, back, and other organs; they retain voices and reactions that he hears internally, and he can suppress their chatter. This composite structure gives him multiple biological weapons and replacement functions, but it also creates dependence: three chimeras die during his battle with Noah, immediately reducing the fighting power that supports his Rank 2 standing (Chapters 52–56, 77–78, 83, 192)

Extrication (S) releases the hidden forms and mana of all thirteen chimeras together. When activated against Noah, BM manifests bony wings, demonic arms, five horns, a large tail, and armor-like skin, producing enough mana to shake a large alternate dimension. The transformation dramatically broadens his combat options, but it is not invulnerability: a catastrophe-ranked demon can destroy integrated chimeras, and Oscar Brzenk later injures BM seriously enough to require hospitalization (Chapters 77–83, 356)

Chimera-derived combat functions

Ahillia's Curse (AA+) replaces one or both arms with the enlarged limbs of the demon baron Ahillia. Their black-blue demonic aura dissolves touched matter back into mana, while Self-protection of a Baron (A) layers a defensive shield over those arms. BM uses them for direct assault, blocks Noah's repeated sword strikes, and can protect Taebaek reflexively; however, Yu Jitae's pressure can prevent the transformed body from responding, and sustained blows from Noah leave even Ahillia's famously tough arms numb (Chapters 53, 78, 189)

Wings of a Wyvern (AA) provides armored flight, sharp extensible claws, and high-speed interception. The wings block Yeorum's fire without injury, threaten her from an angle she fails to notice, and later carry BM fast enough to collide with Noah at the speed of sound. Wyvern's Eye (A) is a separate implanted eye capable of distinguishing a target's identity, though it cannot unravel Yu Jitae's nature. Together these traits provide mobility, defense, close-range control, and reconnaissance rather than a single all-purpose attack (Chapters 53, 55, 77–78)

Heavenly Flute (AA-) manifests five horns, while Heavenly Fantasia (AA+) draws on Kalyavan, a five-horned great monster of Arandot attached to BM's head. Kalyavan's jaws swallow incoming mana, after which BM compresses the absorbed force into a small projectile and fires a beam powerful enough to evaporate rock and carve a crater dozens of metres long. Noah can parry it and redirect its path, so its destructive output does not remove the need for positioning, timing, and follow-up attacks (Chapters 77–78)

The Eyes of Abraxas (S-) came from the blue bird Abraxas, the strongest chimera BM possesses and the creature whose power enabled his return from Arandot. They were previously held by Gnosis, the human-type chimera that destroyed that world, and shine bright blue when uncovered. BM activates them as an escalation against Noah, but their precise sensory or offensive effect is not separately demonstrated; their known significance lies in their S- grade, origin, and place among his integrated chimeras (Chapters 54, 78, 192, 262)

BM also carries the heart of an S+ ranked Seven-headed Troll. Its regenerative vitality lets him survive the reconstructed child's repeated feeding through skin, muscle, bone, and blood, and BM believes losing one heart would weaken rather than kill him. The same resilience does not make sacrifice harmless: feeding exhausts and thins him, while surrendering the troll heart would cost a large portion of his combat strength (Chapters 187–189)

Chimera engineering

BM is one of Earth's foremost chimera engineers. He designs labyrinth guardians, repairs detachable or mobile body parts, modifies his own physiology, and works from precise material quantities, refinement standards, artificial organs, incubation equipment, and preservation magic. His greatest application is the human body reconstructed from Jung Taebaek's hair, including muscles, skeleton, organs, brain, and a heart interface. The work requires rare ingredients gathered from sealed high-rank dungeons, and the heart remains its critical limitation: desperation leads him to use a predatory “undying” ingredient rather than the life-giving seed the design requires (Chapters 52–54, 142–145, 184–189)

His expertise is powerful but not infallible. Decades of failure erode his judgment, Yu Jitae identifies flaws in both his ingredients and assumptions, and the successful body initially becomes a vehicle for a dangerous independent heart. BM's later practice is more disciplined: he gathers every specified ingredient again, uses a preservation coffin, accepts help, and channels mana and will through Ignite to release the seed's seal. That collaboration restores the preserved body with a living heart instead of merely repeating his earlier construction (Chapters 142–145, 188–192, 262)

Rank, battlefield record, and command

BM's official World Rank 2 reflects both individual force and public service. He is counted among the Five Transcendents, is credited with directly or indirectly saving approximately twenty-four million people during the Great War, and has held commands from the Third Kalian Brigade and Korean superhuman divisions to the Association's last-resort force. His tactical strengths include rapid threat assessment, delaying stronger enemies, selecting proportional force, and maintaining formation discipline under overwhelming pressure (Chapters 52, 55, 78, 118, 268, 295–296)

His latest state remains that of an active top-level defender rather than a formally advanced new rank. He survives severe injuries sustained while protecting the Association from Oscar Brzenk and later contributes to killing a dragon during the Long Night alongside other senior superhumans. These battles confirm enduring combat relevance, but they also show the scale above him: sovereigns, catastrophe-ranked demons, adult dragons, and Yu Jitae can overpower or gravely injure him despite his versatility (Chapters 78–83, 295–296, 356, 394)

• Yu Jitae: Their relationship begins with trespass, coercion, and mutual suspicion. Yu Jitae rents the labyrinth, restores BM's resolve as an engineer, forces him to face the false heart, preserves Taebaek's body, and arranges the child's restoration. BM in turn shelters Yu Jitae's soldiers, lends his public authority, protects his identity as Season, and becomes one of the human allies Yu Jitae trusts with humanity's defense (Chapters 52–56, 73–83, 118–119, 142–145, 188–192, 262, 295–296)
• Jung Taebaek: Taebaek is the son of BM's two dead friends and the child whose loss defines BM's life after Arandot. BM raises the first reconstruction as his son, kills its predatory heart to prevent disaster, mourns the child it had become, and finally welcomes the restored Taebaek by reclaiming his own name and pledging his life as a father (Chapters 185–192, 262)
• Yeorum: BM first defeats Yeorum in a controlled spar and recognizes her potential. She later bonds with Taebaek, challenges Yu Jitae's decision to let the reconstructed body die, and persuades him to help create a true heart. Her intervention makes her central to the fulfillment of BM's goal, even though BM also has to discard her dubious gifts while preparing for Taebaek's return (Chapters 55, 187–190, 262)

• Ha Saetbyul: As one of the soldiers sheltered in the labyrinth, Ha Saetbyul helps care for Taebaek and teaches him. After the false child's death, her reminder that expectation makes people live helps BM choose survival and continue toward the promised restoration (Chapters 67–69, 187, 192)
• Bell Baryon: Bell leads the special-force patients who call BM their nurse. She obeys his care regimen but also confronts him during Taebaek's funeral, explaining that their dance and drum are a sincere form of remembrance; her intervention helps turn BM's fury back toward shared grief (Chapters 67–69, 101, 192)

• Level 3 sunglasses: BM's habitual sunglasses prevent others from seeing through them and conceal his implanted eyes. They are repeatedly damaged in battle, and he finally removes them when meeting the restored Taebaek so the child can see his bright-blue Eyes of Abraxas (Chapters 53, 262)
• Hera's Telescope is a Level 4 artifact that examines the essence of a target from a minute clue. BM uses Yu Jitae's hair to discover an apparently innumerable multitude of existences within him, although BM initially interprets the result through his own experience as a composite chimera. • Peace Invoker is a high-end Level 3 mana gun recovered from Wei Yan's faction and given to BM after three of his integrated chimeras die against Noah. Yu Jitae's clone presents it specifically to prevent the battle loss from costing BM his Rank 2 fighting capability; later use or transfer is not established. (Chapter 83)
• The Preservation Coffin is a Level 2 artifact BM provides for the final restoration trip. Its preservation spell protects the minute quantities of every ingredient needed to reconnect the preserved body and heart. (Chapter 262)
• BM activates the Seed That Allows the Dead to Breathe through Ignite, mana, and focused will. The special artifact dissolves its seal and supplies the living heart that restores Taebaek's blood flow, organs, and consciousness. (Chapter 262)
